They've dropped down in price again; these have a 3 year warranty as well.

The same model is available here for £50, but (presumably) with only 1-year warranty.

Wow, I bought 2 this afternoon and they only got 1 left in stock

Not that great a price to be honest, if you have free delivery from Scan, you find daily deals on one or another 2TB HD for around the £50 mark, I bought last week a 2TB Western Digital for £51

dcx_badass

Yes but if you want a proper UK warranty then you'd avoid scan and get … Yes but if you want a proper UK warranty then you'd avoid scan and get this deal for a little more.

Not if you buy a Western Digital like I did, comes with 3 years manufacturers warranty, and they even allow you to change the date from what the drive is preregistered to the actual sale date by uploading a photo of your receipt to the website.

Hence why I buy deals on drives that are not grey imports. £55 is not particularly a great price for a 2TB drive unless you specifically want a Samsung drive.

this IS a good price. Heat added.

I got 2 from scan a couple weeks ago, checked the sanding warranty website, both had 3 yrs warranty

Ps, I'm lonely

*samsung.....bloody autocorrect...

Ps. Still lonely

Ordered 4 from Novatech with 3yr warranty. Will update when they arrive and how they were packaged. They are OOS atm.

You were lucky, I had them delivered in March and May and both times they were in the plastic clamshell, just floating about in a big box with some scrumpled paper.

Guys, I'm sure someone posted a link yesterday to a Scan page that allows you to browse all of their Today Only deals by date, but I'm damned if I can find it.

Anyone know the URL please?

Cheers.

Ordered from Novatech also. Should be arriving on Monday. Will see how good they are. Under 50 + free shipping.

This ones links to their Today Only deals - scan.co.uk/tod…ly/

Is that what you wanted?

Has anybody any experience of using these in a ReadyNAS Duo?

Thanks

They should be fine. But you may want to update the firmware to be safe. No safe way of knowing if its already been done. Supposedly anything manufacturer after nov 10 is ok but in a nas better to be safe.

If the drive has Rev. B on the case, it has the updated firmware.

Doesn't matter, Scan still offer the full 36 month warranty. Even if it is grey stock. It says 36 months on warranty page so you will get 36 months.

These are £51 most of the time on today only with Scan.

There's a plenty safe way of telling if it's already been done so what you're saying isn't actually right, just use the drive manufacturer utility, every manufacturer has a dos based utility that can show you low level information.

Got one of these from Amazon in a similar deal a couple of weeks back.
Installed and formatted fine- no complaints from me. Heat added!

In normal circumstances you would be right, but Samsung have the same version number for the faulty and fixed firmware, so he was right, there is no way of telling

Precisely why I state that this deal is not that great a price, are my comments going full circle?! I opted for the Western Digital, firstly because they definitely have a warranty with Western Digital direct, and secondly their reputation, for £51.

I was saying this deal was not great because drives (Hitachi, Samsung, Western Digital) are all regularly on Scan's Today only page for £51. I personally after reading comments about Scan would not want to opt for their own 3 year warranty however.

Indeed, was just agreeing with you and making it clear you still get a full 3 year warranty with Scan, although yes it can be pot luck with them on how fussy they are honouring warranties, wheras direct RMA with drive manufacturers are very simple.

Thanks for explaining my apologies for assuming everyone on the internet only has a basic knowledge of anything technical.

Great price for a samsung drive and much better/reliable than the WD drives

Really?!!!

Scans website clearly show 36 month warranty on this drive?? What makes you say its not. I picked up 4 drives on the weekend for £51 each whilst granted its a good price, its nothing to write home about.

Price gone up now though scan.co.uk/pro…ncq

Never had a Sammy fail (touch wood). Western digital used to be my preferred until a couple went on me. Their 2.5" drives are really shocking though and fail every couple of years in my experience.

Bottom line is you cant rely on a HDD not failing, always backup.

Why the need for all the 'he said, she said'

I think it is pot luck with what I have read with Samsung drives from Scan, some are grey imports others have full 3 year warranty direct.

PRICE RISE

Why are all drives going up in price? They used to be about £50, but now Amazon, ebuyer and others are charging much more.

Even Scan, on their non TodayOnly pricing have upped the 2Tb WD EARS drives above the £50.
A couple of weeks ago, they were all getting really cheap!

I bought the 2TB WD EARS last week for £51, reduced from £58 on a today special. Prices tend to fluctuate with PC Components, as I have noticed over the past 17 years I have been buying them.

What a bargain, Thanks

This one is fifty quid in Amazon now! I expect the one in the title of this post will follow shortly — they track each other in price often, as they’re more or less the same thing.

Yeah, we I'm upto 14 years since my first build and a little longer on pre built...
My actual question I guess was: is this flutuation a short term or seasonal swing (I've seen both).
Given today's 10% price drop, I guess it was short term!

OK Parcel arrived yesterday and I was mightily impressed. The 4 drives were housed in their familiar see through plastic snap shut casings that we all know and love. These casings were then housed in a polystyrene case which held them securely, close together, but cannot touch. This is probably the packaging that Samsung ships them out in bulk in. Then the polystyrene holder was placed in the middle of an ample box and filled to bursting with those small pieces of soft polystyrene that are the size of mini sausages. So all in all, very pleased with the delivery timescale and packaging :-)

MrFizzy

Has anybody any experience of using these in a ReadyNAS Duo?Thanks

Yes I've had a Duo for a few months with these exact drives in. They are fine.
