If voting cold, I would be interested to know why. Amazon sell the 1TB for more than this.

Dabs have it for the same price with 3% Quidco so possibly £1.80 cheaper?

I think i'd rather pay the extra £15 or so to get a 2TB one mate, but still a good price.

good price for 1.5tb

whats samsung like for reliability? I've always had WD, or seagate

I have had every brand fail on me at some point but found Samsungs to be the best so far for reliability. Others may have a different opinion/experience. I had a Seagate go on me in the first month so have never been keen on them and generally buy WD if I can't get a Samsung.

That's the one thing that puts me off, my experience with Samsung drives has not been good.

Voted the OP hot as theyre only a fiver or so more than a bare drive.

Thanks. Personally I'd prefer that one, I already have a 1TB WD Elements which has been fine.

I have 2 samsungs, and one WD, as one of the previous posters said all brands will fail at one point, but from experience both are reliable. The WD is 250gb and samsung is 1.5TB, my only preference of the WD is that it transfers data much faster.

Great deal, but it looks massive. Voted hot.

All 3x SATA drives in my 3 y/o PC are Samsung and never had a problem at all. First was a 500G drive bought for the PC system build. Then a 750G data storage drive and this week a 2T storage drive installed today.

In my experience as an IT tech with over 3000 PCs passing through my hands, HDD failure is quite rare unless there's a reason in the physical environment (e.g. it gets moved or overheated). If there's an inherent fault it should show up almost as soon as you start using it.

Of course, they CAN unexpectedly fail, so ALWAYS backup your absolutely irreplaceable stuff! What I'm looking at this drive for, though I only paid a few £ more for an internal 2TB drive...

The difficulty is that most people only buy a comparitively small number of drives, so if they have a couple of failures from a particular manufacturer they'll simply avoid that manufacturer in future.

Some years ago there used to be a website that allowed you to enter details of drive failures, and from that collated data it produced statistics about the reliability of particular drives. Unfortunately I don't recall the site, and I'm not sure if it still exists.
