Good to see a uk sourced A50, non eglobal (£249) non amazon Spain (324)

The specs state NFC for anyone wanting to know, Samsung pay won't work.

Reasons to buy Samsung Galaxy A50
  • Android 9 (Pie) with One UI
  • 6.4-inch 1080 x 2340 Super AMOLED Infinity-U display
  • Samsung Exynos 9610 Octa processor
  • 128 GB with 4GB RAM
  • microSD support (up to 512GB)
  • TRIPLE 25+8+5MP rear cameras with phase-detection autofocus
  • 25MP selfie cameras with autofocus
  • 4,000 mAh battery with fast charging
  • Bluetooth 5.0 / GPS / Dual-Band Wi-Fi / NFC
  • Gorilla Glass 3 / USB Type-C / 3.5mm audio jack
  • 158.5 x 74.7 x 7.7 mm

Samsung Pay
If you order an EU Model or Convert then you may find that Samsung Pay is unavailable, even if it is supported in your country.

This is because Samsung restricts the use of Samsung Pay so that it only works with banks registered in the same country as the phone's origin.

The origin country is recorded in the phone's firmware and cannot be adjusted by end users. Currently, we are unable to advertise the exact origin country of EU Models prior to sale.

If you require the use of Samsung Pay in the UK, we would recommend avoiding an EU Model or Convert, although if Google Pay is available and acceptable to you, this will be available to download and unaffected.

EU Models
Where a product option states "EU Model", it will have been sourced directly from a European supplier. These phones should come factory sealed with the original Samsung Adaptive Fast Charger (Europlug 2-pin).

Wouldn't worry about Samsung Pay, Google Pay works equally well and is supported by more banks.

Lol, no worries
This is an EU model, you can choose the UK model in the drop down but it is £328 inc.VAT.

I don't get why UK prices are always hiked - is it the economics of making a lower volume model with a UK charger?

No idea tbh, but if they make eu models for less, then I'm OK with that ha
Will this work with Samsung Pay
Quite tempted by this, but recently been thinking about the size of the phones that I've been considering.

I'd love this kind of spec in a phone with a screen that is around 5.8 inches, but sadly the smaller phones compromise on the specs/features I'm hoping to get.

It is a large phone, you can compare with your present one or others you've been considering here: phonearena.com/pho…075 - using the 'Calibrate' feature, you can even get a true life-size comparison.

What about the A40? Smaller, 5." Screen, 144.8 height

Does this mean that NFC will work on the one I bought from EGlobal?
Thanks OP for Samsung Pay clarification.
Actually I found SP even better than GPay on 2 counts:
1. Can be used from locked screen
2. NFC turns on automatically before purchase and off after.

Yes, it's true that some banks like Lloyds don't support it yet, others like HSBC do.

That is handy, thanks. The A50 is an inch taller than my current phone, which is my main concern.

I can't guarantee that of course - but check this Google Pay support page about NFC & GooglePay. It might help answer your question.

I've looked at the A40 a few times. It would be a more suitable size, but the 14nm processor and the drop to 3100 mAh concerns me when it comes to battery life.

Yeah, that's a lot! But you could get used to it - many do very quickly & don't look back.

Do you have a friend/relative/neighbour who has a large phone that you could perhaps play around with for a little while & check if it fits in your pocket? I'd be sold with any suitably-specced large phone that fitted in my trousers' pocket!

Hmm... I'll change op. Cheers
A70 out soon.
Does this come with wireless charging? Kids mess up the ports so want a wireless device next!
