The new Samsung premium phone takes a big price drop, this one always sparks a little debate but this seems more like the right kind of price, smashes the iPhone 6 to bits.

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha features a sophisticated design in a carefully constructed compact body with a metal frame and a solid finish. Elegant and practical, the Galaxy Alpha is the optimal convergence of style and cutting-edge technology.

Concentrating on elegant aesthetics and compact construction, Samsung has taken a fresh approach to design with the Galaxy Alpha. Created to help consumers express their unique style without sacrificing functionality, the refined Galaxy Alpha features a sophisticated design with a metal frame, elegantly curved corners and a tactile soft back cover. At less than 7 mm thick, the Galaxy Alpha is also one of the slimmest Galaxy devices ever, and its uniquely compact construction and light weight provides consumers with maximum in-hand grip and control.

Despite its slim and light design, the Galaxy Alpha provides users with the same powerful hardware and features users expect from a flagship Galaxy mobile device. The device is equipped with a brilliant 4.7-inch HD Super AMOLED display as well as an advanced camera and real time HDR for an unrivaled viewing and photo experience. The Galaxy Alpha also includes innovative and popular features such as Ultra-Power Saving Mode, S Health, Finger Print Scanner, Private Mode and connectivity with the latest Samsung Gear Fit, Gear Live and Gear 2 wearables.

As noted in the OP...

There's nothing premium about this phone.

It's not mentioned here, but this is one of the first phones to use Gorilla Glass 4, which is a lot more resilient than GG3. The phone itself does feel great in the hand for it's size too, slightly reminiscent of the iPhone 5s but bigger.

Does anyone order from those places?

Poor battery, poor screen resolution for size and price.

You won't find many (if any) 1080p screen phones at 4.7". For this size screen it is pretty much unchallenged spec wise, with only the iphone 6 coming close. For some reason Android phone makers seem to think anything under 5" deserves a lower end SoC, the exception being this phone and Sony's Z compact phones.

I would expect the battery to be pretty good considering it's the first chi to be produced on Samsungs 20nm tech, so should give more performance with a lower battery use, though the 1860mah battery pretty much killed any chance of getting more usage from a full charge.

Plus Aluminium . shame it's only 32GB with no expansion options, that alone kills it for me.

They had one of these on display at a local Tesco. I was very underwhelmed - Seems like the only real difference is a metal frame as opposed to plastic, but it still doesn't feel great in the hand.

Shocking how quickly this had dropped in price, even for a Samsung. I've had a lock at them and they would be worth a punt at about £250. Could be around that price in January or February.

The curse and gift of Android. Depreciation.

Come February/March, this will be £250, the note 4 £350.

By then though 4gb ram, 810 snapdragons and 4k screens will be on the horizon.

Sucks to be s tech fan.
