so instead of moving the screen down 5mm, they keep a bottom chin bezel and have to have the notch. Makes sense to me

New Samsung midranger?

As long as this has Beauty algorithm, I'm in...

That's more like it.. a high spec smartphone, that is not the same cost as a house in 1940!!

But wonder if anyone is tempted by the new, new S10+ "performance" 12gb variant in ceramic, that has just gone live!

This is more an engineering problem. It's to do with the way the ribbon cable connects to the motherboard...but I agree with you.

Sorry, never bought from Amazon Spain so boring questions :- phone has English?; warranty in the UK? I assume delivery is not particularly slow. Cheers.

Delivery is usually within a week, and Samsung bought eu products have an eu wide warranty

Nimble as you like, it powered the best selling phone, worldwide in 2018, the Redmi Note 5 and still hustles today, with the extra bits and bobs in the Samsung and a bit of optimisation, should imagine its pretty rapid in one of these

Really good midrange specs from Samsung....they must be feeling the pinch form Xiaomi and Huawei to start releasing some sensibly price handsets.

Only thing it lacks really is Dual Sim. Shame but always hard to please everybody :-)

@Mrswitch

Need a small handset to replace a Galaxy A3 2017 for Mrs Uridium....any suggestions? Open to all brands but Android only.

5"? Wow, now you're asking, I'd generally consider the xz2 compact if you're OK with the price. Otherwise the xz1 compact.

Or even consider the Nokia 8 sirocco, has a 5.5 but quite a small form factor for screen size.

Mrs Switch uses the Mi8 lite and loves it, says it isn't too big either.
Thought this worth sharing from Tech Radar review, little nugget of info

'There's another fact about the M20 that can't go unignored. Like most Samsung handsets that Galaxy M20 has a SAR rating of 0.248 W/kg whereas, the competing Note 6 Pro has a SAR value of 0.755 W/kg and Honor 10 Lite has a SAR value of 0.6W/kg. For those who don't know, higher SAR value means more exposure to RF (radiofrequency) energy absorption by human body. The lesser the safer. '

I'm not certain that Samsung are doing a single sim version, info seems a little thin on the ground...... but a quick look on GSMarena shows only a dual sim version and Ebay listings seem to also be dual sim (I didn't check them all, just some, but even the ones listed without 'Dual Sim' in the title showed it in the description body)

maybe just Amazon not showing the details fully?
Does this have NFC, getting different answers from diffrent sites
Nice phone, I was tempted by this but no always-on-display and no notification led puts me off. Still hot for the price though

Tbh, I'd probably be looking at the same sites you are, so until we get reviews from our fellow hukder's, that's when we'll know I guess

Exactly. Having the notch allows you to have more display. I'm not sure why people are finding this so hard to understand

Maybe means it has a less powerful antenna so connection might be worse in low signal areas?
Anyone else spot that this is a Galaxy handset without an AMOLED display? I'm pretty happy with good LCDs anyway. This seems like a great alternative to the usual mid-rangers.

I'm usually put off by the Samsung a's and j's, but this m series is inspiring confidence.
MrSwitch25/02/2019 16:40

Nope!

Rather spend a extra ton on Sony Xperia 10 then given they’ve dropped prices because they weren’t ready with 5G, bloody decent specs too

PLS TFT? Why Samsung! Why!

It's not too bad actually - from the Techradar review:

"The display of the Galaxy M20 is a 6.3-inch FHD+ (2340 x 1080p) PLS TFT panel. PLS (Plane Line Switching) is Samsung's proprietary display design which is similar to IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology. If you're surprised to see the term TFT, it's just the terminology that sounds dated, but Samsung has worked on the PLS technology and it's visible on this device.

The display has rich colours, impressive viewing angles and outdoor visibility. It's one of those displays that catch your eye the moment you turn on the phone for the first time. It's adequately sharp and quite bright. However, if you're nitpicking and comparing it to the AMOLED panels on J-series phones by Samsung, then, of course, you won't get the deep blacks and highly saturated colors."

You also won't get the icon burn and image retention so that's why a good LCD is sometimes preferable. There is some misconception about 'TFT', TFT is just an active-matrix display which almost everything is, but as it's PLS, it's basically Samsung's IPS (like you said) so it's the best of the LCD technologies for a phone really - good viewing angles and contrast. iPhones had IPS displays before the X and XS.
Massive battery. Pretty cool.

NFC is something it has not got.. as it was predominately made for the Asian / Indian market, where QR payments rule and to compete with the 2 big dual sim sellers over there, but it is worth buying for the 5000mAh battery, Bluetooth 5 & fast charging alone at this price!!

Think I might just wait for sterling to rise against the euro Tuesday and nab one of these at less than £199!!
