You must be getting all my luck! The 'good condition' phone I just bought from this seller looked like it had been kicked around a car park!

I’ve not been impressed with XS-items in the past either to be honest. I would go with their better grades to avoid this issue and their customer service is rude and blunt.

It always seems a bit hit-or-miss with used phones. On the whole I've been pretty lucky and fortunately there is always the 30-day returns policy to fall back on.

Aye, 4gadgets and Smartfonestore seem to be the best, closely followed by Envirofone in my experience

Looks like they’ve been taking advice from Music Magpie or WJD-Store on how to stretch the meaning of the word ‘good’.

He's actually called Zak.....no idea why channel is called that btw
If this condition is described as 'good' I'd hate to think of what battery life would be like.
Any decent cases or screen protectors?

As long as the screen is in good condition, slap a good quality phone case and you're good.
My Pixel 2 from these chaps was described as "Good", on receipt it actually looked brand new apart from a 1cm scratch on the screen. Popped a glass protector on the front and its difficult to see when the phone is off, impossible to see when its on. Guess ymmv.

Wait for black friday. You'd be surprised.
Best phone in 2019 still for the price.

Both the same I'd say. Go with the savings
I had a good phone and it was more of a grade b. No scratches on the glass just a few around the rim. Is just pot luck but if you're putting a case on it does it really matter? Only the screen is important
Bought the last, good, 512gb in black @ £432, should I be happy 🙃

Within reason - but deep gouges or scrapes will devalue it when you come to sell it. Good should really mean grade B at worst but somewhere along the line they got away with grade C quality!

No. If I see even small scratches anywhere on a phone it really annoys me, so I prefer A grade if possible. But everyone is different

True, but that comes back to when you plan to sell it. I'm on an S8+ I got just after the S9 came out, got it setup running nova + pixel icon packs. Still runs as new as does the battery. Makes you wonder how many years you can actually get out of modern phones. Wondering if this can last till S12s are out even.

But that’s you. I’d rather buy your used phone than some random battered one - good chance if it’s covered in scrapes and marks that they haven’t taken care of the battery or AMOLED either, broadly speaking. There are always outliers. But yes, I’d agree, display glass is most important and battery health if it’s possible to check it.

Sounds about right for eBay, all the very experienced refurbished sellers have a few things in common:
1. All of the conditions they specify will seem to sound decent, like "Good", "Reasonable" - but when you actually get the device and look at the condition it is always far worse than what you what expect.
2. They never put real pictures of the devices, because they claim to have too many, but the real reason is because they don't want to show the true condition so they can mislead punters with their vague "Good" condition.
3. Every seller has a different definition of conditions, e.g. one seller may have an "A" grade as their top, whilst another seller may have "A", "A+", "A++", "A+++" and then your A grade is pretty s**t - another way they like to mislead.

That said, I have had a less experienced and much more respectable eBay refurbisher who sold me a Galaxy S4 once in "B" grade condition, when I got the device it was fully boxed, all accessories, had the factory screen protector on it and was in absolute mint condition. Couldn't tell it apart from a brand new device, except the seal was broken.

So it is a bit of a lottery, but with the experienced sellers I simply refuse to buy from them unless they show pictures (or I email them first). That said, my last purchase was a brand new Note 9 directly for Samsung, with all the offers at the time (cashback, trade in, employee discount program, selling Fortnite skin), I got the device for £350 all in, bargain of a lifetime.

Have a look for the Tozo screen protector on Amazon, from the 3 I've had so far it's been the best and they will contact you to give a review and send you another one free after if you do. It's not the best but far better than the cheap eBay rubbish I tried first.

For the case, I have the official Samsung Protective Standing Cover. What I really liked about it is how silky smooth it was to press the power and volume buttons. I also dropped my Note 9 within 2 months of owning it, right onto concrete bricks as I exitted a vehicle and it fell out of my pocket. The case got some marks on it but the phone was unharmed. I liked this case so much that I bought a second one when it was on offer, so when the case gets some more drop marks I'll just swap it out. But honestly, it will last a lifetime, the case simply does not need replacing - providing you don't like looking at scuffs after you've dropped it.

Some people say the case looks a bit like a luggage box lol, which I can see but in person it's not as bad.

I was tempted to go for it at £330 but not if there's a chance of it looking like a dog has chewed it. I'll keep my eyes on ibidder instead..!

Yes you should. If it's physically okay, then you are in for a treat, the note 9 is a phenomenally good phone and my soul is a little bit destroyed I no longer have mine. I've used Spigen cases on my note 7, S7 Edge, note 9 and now S8 and they've all been great. Got the first after I cracked the note 7. Actually no, I had two note 7s after they sent out replacements within a month or so and in that time, it fell out of my pocket in the car and cracked the back, a fall of 20cm or so. Then with the replacement note, I had it in my gloved hand and it slipped through like it was greasy Teflon-coated ice.

Then I learned.

Thanks
Bought a Moto G6 Plus (which was actually a G6 Play) that wasn’t getting any signal - turned out to be blacklisted. Claimed they described the item wrongly and that they didn’t have a suitable replacement. STILL had the gall to ask me “How would you like to proceed?”

Bought an S9 that came with a cracked camera lens - made it very clear I was returning it for a full refund. HOURS after receiving the return, somebody calls my number claiming their “technicians” fixed it and was adamant on sending it back to me, sounding pissed off when I reminded him I asked for a refund.

Sent a Very Good iPhone XS Max that looked like somebody had taken sandpaper to the screen. Even after receiving the return, insisted that the item matched the description on the listing before issuing the refund.

Every. Single. One of my interactions with this company has been atrocious. Avoid at all costs.

It's about time companies took their responsibilities more seriously and stopped this annual renewal of their products. It's unsustainable.
