It's crazy that you buy a flagship phone at the start of your contract and 24 months later it's worth around £95 in pristine condition..
512gb version in good condition is £314.99. 128 version in excellent condition £314.99.

That's why, a few years ago, I started buying secondhand or refurbished handsets.

Always buy the best condition one you can afford from a reliable seller and you are quids in compared to the money you lose on buying new.

I think I'm just going to run this phone until it dies now. Contract is up in a few months, so I'm happy to switch on to SIM only until it gives out.

Hi @HappyShopper can you recommend any 'reliable sellers'?

I just can’t imagine dropping £1399 on a Samsung, especially knowing it will be superseded by the Note line within 6 months. If I’m spending a lot of money on a phone I want it to be the ‘best’ that manufacturer has to offer for at least a year. I’m more and more starting to think that I should start just shopping for older phones like this.

That was one of the reasons why I went down the SH route.

If. like me, you don't need the latest and greatest gadget on day one then I think the sweet spot to purchase a flagship phone is when it gets to about a year old where you get a good balance of price, condition and future use.

To be fair pretty much everything I buy *is* second hand, but I could get even more value if I went for two year old phones .

I got a 512GB unlocked S10 for £270 the other day. I can only imagine what I would have paid for one of those brand new when it launched.

It will never be a year, the period between the Note and The S range is more like 6 months or so

Yes, that’s what I’m getting at. And a lot of people actually flog their current gen S model to buy the Note because it usually has some improvements. And then if you drop £1400 on a Note you’ve then got the S30 or whatever six months after.

I know it’s not the end of the world but I don’t know why Android manufacturers can’t seem to sustain sales with annual releases of their flagship phone portfolio. I guess it’s because there is a lot more competition between manufacturers to sustain interest but IMHO it cheapens the lineup.

Agree, that's because some people seem to need the latest greatest phone all the time. Maybe it fills a void left from something else in their lives.. who knows.. but manufacturers are there to make money of course, so are all too eager to fulfil this need.

This obviously pushes the price of older phones down, which means you can get decent phones for a good price.

With contracts on the new phones though, you should consider that you're also paying monthly fee for your calls, texts and data and not just the handset.
345 for the dual sim one and 512gb
ordered one good and one excelllent, let see what the conditions are like

i think the prices will drop even more soon but not in the next 6 months

As a price comparison, I bought one from them in mid-Dec for £370: Dual SIM, 512Gb, excellent condition.
@HappyShopper thanks very much for your tips today. I'd not really considered a refurb before (though I'll usually look for good quality second hand in almost anything else I buy). I've just picked up a pristine Samsung A70 for £200 (retail at £350) to tied me over till I get a refurb flagship 5G. Thank you!
This is amazing, but I just got a samsung j6 as a present from my parents at my graduation a year ago, I would have bought this otherwise,
Where from, I would jump at that price for one ?

The first part of what you say here is quite insulting. I am definitely not someone who can afford to buy a new phone every 6 months, but IF I could afford it, why wouldn't I? I certainly wish I could. Why do wealthy people buy anything that costs a lot of money? It's surely not always to 'fill a void'. This phone is excellent value for those who can't afford the best phone every few months. But good luck to those who can.
Hmm.. any idea if this will continue to drop considering that the next generation Note will be launched in 5 months time?
So sorely tempted. My S7 Edge which was SH is still performing well though even with a cracked screen... though only I can see the crack at an odd angle. I want but don't need. Yet.

Yeah phone contracts on high end phones seem like a massive con these days.
Excellent deal considering how much I paid for this new, even with discounts/trade in I used at the time. Might buy one for my daughter. Just under two years old is great for Samsung phones as you can usually still get faults fixed under the Samsung Warranty.
I also very rarely buy brand new phones because they became about as functional as I need quite some time ago. Screens are higher resolution than I can see, cameras are now excellent and giving diminishing returns with upgrades. Internal memory is now adequate for apps and a 256GB or more card does for storage. Obviously I'm happy that those who can afford it buy brand new cutting edge phones because they provide all the second hand phones and iron out the bugs. Thanks!

TLDR? Heat.
Just bought the 3 p30 deal might cancel it and grab this. I have one already but want a work phone
Great - thanks - just ordered!

Not bad, but depends on the quality.

I ebayed one recently for £310, quality was better than just good though.

I did. Just giving the battery a full charge now - the phone itself looks like new to me (albeit without original box) so I'm pleased I took the plunge!
This vs Note 10 +, price difference justified..? Big tech developments or minor improvements?
their good condition is a level C or lower, it has scratches everywhere and some deep ones on the screen.
Mine is being delivered between 5pm and 6pm today - on the order note it says 512gb - is that correct ?

I ordered the "good" condition one for £284.99.

It should be the 128gb 'good' condition for that price. If you get the 512gb version for that then it's an absolute steal! Fingers crossed for you.

Hi - just been delivered - no original box - just a 4gadgets box that was impossible to get the phone out of ! There was a smarty sim in the box as well - just charging now - had 36 percent charge and a screen protector sticker on it - it looks brand new to me - and it is the larger 512mb model - now to find a case.

I will have to check my bank account as there was no invoice in the box - just to double check I didn't mix things up with the order - I did change colours etc a few times to find one in stock - ended up with black !
