where does this stand next to a nexus one or an htc desire?

£580 is expensive for any mobile phone, but for a samsung? That's just silly!

it is more powerful than a nexus one or an htc desire but not by much (esp not 3x) in everyday use.
Plus samsung will have its TouchWiz interface if thats your thing. No camera flash either. Otherwise about the same.

Better than both. Do a bit of quick research and you'll see that.

Usually you'd be right. With the latest flagship Samsung phones though they've all gotten rave reviews and gsmarena makes this out to be the best phone on the market. And to be fair, it's better than the new iPhone and at a cheaper price. I'm mad to get one, just seem to be out of stock everywhere at the moment. Vodafone haven't got their delivery yet apparently.

It's not just the mobile phone that you get for this price, this includes your mobile bill for 18 months too. With a bit of luck your phone, at the end of the term, would still have some value too, even if say £50.

I had a samsung omnia which I didn't like, and it's put me off sammys, is there a real chance that this is much better to use? Realise gsm arena rate it highly, which is a good recommendation.

Thanks for posting this deal! heat added

Intruiging phone. Looks VERY smart, but £40 pm? Ouch.
Don't need 800 mins myself so wouldn't be overly interesed.
Priced to Match the iPhone rather than beat it?

And for those who may think Samsung == rubbish, read the reviews.

Not voted either way but Rep

Let me rephrase that for you

where does this stand next to a iPhone4 or HTC EVO 4G

This appears to be the flagship android phone in UK at the moment

The short answer is that the A4 is heavily influenced by Apple's long … The short answer is that the A4 is heavily influenced by Apple's long established relationship with Samsung and represents an evolution rather than a revolution in circuit design. To test this hypothesis it is instructive to look at physical evidence provided by two processors closely related to the A4, the Samsung S5PC110 and the iPhone 3GS application processor (AP).

I believe Hummingbird is mucho fast
