Tesco Phone Shop - Samsung Galaxy S II

Free handset - black colour only
Two plans available
50 minutes + 250 texts + 750 MB data
or
100 minutes + unlimited texts + 250 MB data
Free insurance for 24 months (minimum term) contract
Cashback available from TopCashBack - £35.35, or QuidCo - £35.

Summary:
£15.50 per month / 24 months
£15.50 x 24 = £372
After cashback from TCB: £372 - £35.35 = £336.65 (or £14.03 per month)
Free insurance (worth £5 to £7 a month?)

Not a bad deal if you ask me. I was going to buy this last month but it expired. This is very tempting. I may hold out to see if this gets any cheaper. The free insurance is definitely a small piece of mind (not that I need it, but for an expensive model like this it's nice to have it just in case).

Bought this last month.......Don't forget after the first month you can add 100 minutes or 100mb for just £1 extra a month
The galaxy S2 is still selling for around £200 on ebay so you could take this, sell the phone and have a fairly good sim only contract for around £7 a month
Accy, how do you get the extra 100 min for a pound? I phoned them yesterday asking for more minutes and was told it was £5 for 200.
Anyone know if this is the 16gb or 32gb version? Also, can the text booster be changed?

Text booster can be changed with T-Mobile when activated.

This is most likely the 16 GB version.

One of the downsides to the Galaxy S II like other Samsung's handsets is the non-hot swappable micro SD slot. Provided that you insert a 32 GB flash card in there, you shouldn't have to swap memory too often. Certainly beats HTC's One S or X though, having non-expandable memory.

Another relative downside to today's market is the resolution which is only 480x800. Though still very common, it fails to surpass the ongoing trend of 540x960 that a lot of HTC smartphones possess. However, the Super AMOLED Plus and RGB matrix makes up for that providing a little more sub-pixel density (though still not better PPI overall).

There appears to be an excess on the insurance based on the value of the phone.

Any idea on what the excess is on this phone ?

On their insurance pages, I guess the Galaxy S II falls under band B, so excess fee would be £50, that is assuming the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S III are band C.

It's really a matter of opinion. What's your current handset? If it's something the HTC Desire S or Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, then I'd hold onto it until your contract expires.
You've still got a few months left unlike me which expires this month.

You can only do it after the first month
Just about to purchase this contract guys, just wanted to know if theres unlimited browsing / emails on this contract as there are with other T-Mobile contracts.
Have tried to order and got message "unexpected error t-mobile sql failure".
Anybody know what this means?
Can't ring tesco cs before 0900
I tried twice last night and got the same issue on the 'payment' screen ie the credit check, tried this am 20 mins ago used Chrome and not IE this time and it went through no problem (might have just been sorted rather than the browser). I think this should be hotter as a package it seems very good value, glad its back delayed last time and missed it. Quidco, phone package and 2 years Ins and with the possibilty of swappable booster.

CS advised me not to try again, and put me through to telesales, they matched deal, but I didn't want to lose quidco. after reading your post I tried again and succeeded. they must have fixed the site. I'm using chrome all the time.
no confirmation email from tesco after 6 hours, but quidco tracked after 1 hour.
Are they usually this slow, considering they say next day delivery.

Maybe they're carrying out the credit checks. I wouldn't worry because people who bought this deal before also had a slight delay in receiving the confirmation e-mail, but they receive the package in the end.

On a similar note, I once ordered two Blu-Ray movies, received items in 2 weeks after but didn't receive their dispatch e-mail until 6 weeks later! (And no, they didn't charge me twice)
I'm in the same position - still no email confirmation, makes it difficult if you want to order for example a case for when the phone arrives.

more to the point, will it arrive?
As I suspected, you can't just phone up and ask for 100 extra minutes for £1 as accy has suggested. Just tried to do it with existing contract and they'd never heard of it.
They are awaiting stock of the handset at the moment.
The call centre rep couldn't tell me when they would be getting them but "she didn't think it would be too long".
panic over, credit approval and dispatch emails recieved.

I find it strange how this deal isn't very hot but this offer last month during the Diamond Jubilee caught a lot of people's attention with 350 heat.
hotukdeals.com/dea…267

This offer offers free insurance on top as well.

With regards to the delay, I again wouldn't worry too much. This is Tesco anyway, so I wouldn't worry unless they start charging you and you don't have the handset. Tesco has good reputation, so they'll just send you a cancellation notice at worst.

Mine is on its way, phew.
Shouldn't this be expired? It's no longer on the site

It is expired. Just recently I suppose. Miss my chance again. Perhaps it's a sign telling me to hold onto my HTC Wildfire for a little longer.
Oop s

and like buses they seem to keep coming along !!
i hope !!

For those that are still interested, you can potentially still buy this offer if you call Tesco directly and quote that you can see this offer when you search their website. If you type "samsung galaxy s ii" in the search field, this offer does come but the link is broken. The only downside is that you miss out on TCB or QuidCo cashback.
Original Poster
They've removed that entry from the (search) database. I don't think this will return. Expired for sure.
Anyone else activated the free insurance? Told th eexcess on the S2 is the same as on the S3 - £75 was a little surprised was expecting £50 but oh well.

Okay,I take that back. Probably still available to order via phone...
