I don't think much of the S9 myself but if you are going to get one then Samsung are offering good value offered on the trade-ins; for older phones roughly as much or sometimes more than you would get selling yourself elsewhere and without the hassle.

It is not really worth it if you have an iPhone 7.

S9 before trade in: £739
S9+ before trade in: £869

Trade-in examples:

iPhone
  • iPhone 5 range (standard/S/C): £99.25
  • iPhone 6 range (standard/S/Plus): £152.50
  • iPhone 7 range (standard/plus): £206

Samsung
  • S3, S4, S5: £99.25
  • S6 range (standard/edge): £152.50
  • S7 range (standard/edge): £206

Sony, Huawei, Oneplus, HTC, LG
  • Most current models all offering £99.25

Criteria
  • Existing Handset must be owned by you
  • Must match the make and model from your order form
  • Must power on/up and hold charge
  • Must be fully functional and must have no software or hardware faults
  • Must only have normal wear and tear - there must be no damage or blemishes to screen/LCD and the casing around the device including the camera lens must not be cracked. No level of liquid damage is acceptable.
  • Must have a fully functioning display and have no cracked screen
  • Must not be blacklisted
  • Must be factory reset and have no software locks - the device must have any personal account locks removed and the device must be reset to remove personal data, all devices must have their iCloud or Google accounts removed
  • Must not be PIN locked and must not have an have ‘Activation Lock’ or 'iCloud Lock' activated
  • Must include its battery within the casing and must not have any missing parts
  • Must not be crushed, bent in half or liquid-damaged
  • Must not be “jail-broken” or similar and the firmware must not have been altered
  • Must be original and meet the manufacturer’s original UK specifications (and is not personalised with any custom engraving).

unless you have an s7 or older there no point in upgrading to the s9 its so so rubish and is aimed at 14 year olds who take snaps and videos all day long

Its a rubbish update, not a rubbish phone
Fingerprint reader is still on the back. No no no, will stay with my s7 instead
No conceivable reason to upgrade if you have s8 or S7 Edge already. Phones have reached their maturity and manufacturers are now looking for increasingly inventive ways to force you to upgrade

Wasn't sure about the S8 fingerprint scanner on the back after changing from a Sony Z5 but it's surprisingly natural to use IMO. Was really surprised!
Or.. trade in your s8 or s8 plus at carphone warehouse, ur gettin 420 for s8 plus, its an extra 100 quid on top of offered price if u trade in for s9, and boys... its not revolution.. its evolution, i own s8 plus, design is one of the best out there, but dual speaker and better cam etc is a welcome to get a perfect phone right
3% cashback on Quidco at Samsung too
I've got the S8. I looked at the S9 and I just thought 'meh'. Think I'll save myself the money for another year.
I have an s7 edge is it worth getting this? Doesn't seem that way.
The £100 extra trade in at carphone warehouse is only for the first 9000 preorders so I wouldn't put much faith in getting it now.

I have an S7 and I am tempted to go S9, just not sure if it's worth waiting one more gen...
Early camera samples show the S9 camera is still a bit of a smudge-fest when you zoom in. Pixel 2 and U11/+ camera's still seem superior. If you need all the extra tidbits then it may be worthwhile for you (960fps slow mo, ARemoji etc).

Benchmarks from Anandtech seem a bit worrisome too.

Wait for one more if your phone can last. Pretty sure you will be happy waiting.
Just a sad deal 🤔
My s8 plus has a broken screen will I still be able to trade it in?

What a load of claptrap. "The S9 is so so rubish [sic] unless you have an old phone, or you are 14".

So it isn't rubbish - it's just not worth getting (in your opinion) unless you have a 23 month old Samsung - and, what, then it's not rubbish?

I have an S6 which is now 3 years old. When it was two years old it was fine. Now it's slow and needs constant charging. Question is the S8 for ~£450 from amazon de or this for £639 from Samsung (I have an old S3 I can trade in for 100 quid off)

I'm sticking with my S7 Edge for another year, still amazingly fast and in great condition, and should get Android Oreo next month.

Not enough of an upgrade or new features to warrant the cost even if I trade mine in, and that's coming from someone who loves to have and use the latest tech.

If Very would offer 20% off first credit account orders again it would be a great deal for someone who hasn't got a S7/S8 variant or has another brand of phone.

Interesting to hear that. My wife also went from Sony Z5 to S8 and hates the change in location of the finger print reader.

As others have commented, the S9 looks to be a poor upgrade from the S8. The only good thing about the S9 coming out is that it might push down prices of better (but older) phones like the Pixels.

What's 160+100 ?
Cold, not an iphone
33332257-TkzMN.jpgI had an email from sky mobile offering pre orders for no upfront cost and £33 per month with 10gb data (if you order before march 8th) and (I presume) unlimited calls and texts if you have a tv sub. No good for me as I've just updated to the S8 (too tight to pay full price ). Might be worth a gander for someone though 🏼
Can't even trade in an s8

I Would upgrade but not at a premium cost. My S7 edge has slowed down and battery life is inevitably slow after 2 years.
Nearly £800 for a phone , what a joke , Check Onplus 5t

THis reads like it might be 500mb a month and a one off 10gb of data rather than 10gb a month?

Or S8

You can get about £316 for the S8. I had a look yesterday. Then I looked at the specs for the S9 and thought why bother. They may as well have called it the S8s.

I miss my S7 Edge. It felt a lot more premium, the fingerprint scanner is in a useful place. Even the screen seemed to be more vibrant. My S8 is honestly no better than it.
I have an S7 Edge myself very happy with it I can't see any major reason to switch to an S9 from all the preview reviews I think people now have to think do I really need a change of phone every year!!!

Are they trying to find to increase there profit through some other way (selling manufacturer refurbished phones). I'm sure most of the phones will have cracks and 100% sure phones like s3, s4 barley hold the charge. I feel like they are asking for few months used phones rather few years used. Price is very hot without looking at the terms and conditions but it will only help few of us. Thanks for the find OP.
I only just bought the s8+ for myself, in late Dec as my phone broke, and then the s8 for my son in late Jan of this year. No contracts, just purchased outright, so no upgrades for us.
I'm guessing the next time we will upgrade our phones when they're either broken, or unusable, as I see no point otherwise.
We already have great phones, and just my opinion - Why fix something that ain't broken?!

Since both the S3 and S4 have replaceable batteries, holding their charge shouldn't really be a problem. Having said that, my S3 batteries only last about 3-4 hours, probably due to only being 2100 mAh.
Having a big problem with Shamsung at the minute. My s7 edge got wet when it rained. The two touch buttons no longer work and guess what, they won't honour the warranty for water damage when they advertised it as IP68 certified.
