Samsung Galaxy Tab 4, 8" Tablet, 16GB, WiFi - Black

Found in the bargain basket in Currys Southend - I have no idea if this is national or not, so may be worth calling in advance. Although this isn't the most up-to-date tablet available it seems very good for the price and much cheaper than anywhere else (currently £169 in Argos and Tesco), hence the post... Hope this is of use to someone.

I had the last black in Southend, although there was a white in the cabinet. I don't know about the stock status in other stores.

I believe that this can be manually updated to 5.1.1, although I'm no expert so may be wrong!

Sar fend.... Not for me then, but still heated. Even if it is on 4.4 it's still a capable wee tablet!

Justify to confirm, the tablet updates to lollipop automatically when turned on.
I've had a few Samsung Phones in my say (both 'Smart' & otherwise ... )

But never any of their Tablets, are their Tablets any better than their Phones? (as have had 1 or 2 issues with a few Samsung Phones in the past too!), never had any of their Tablets too mind .....
Using it now and have been for tge the last year. Really like it and it does everything i want.

Streams well from netflix, amazon, sky, iplayer and kodi addons.

Not major lag. Would recommend for that price

Don't cheap out on Samsung tablets or any tablets and you're good to go. If you're going to buy a tablet always aim for flagship level or at the very least read a lot of reviews, they usually give you some in depth insight.

This is hotukdeals we are all here to 'cheap out' as you put it. I realise this is your very first post, but just telling people to buy the most expensive ('flagship') model from any brand is not helpful.

I think (hope) what he meant is that you should go for a flagship tablet if you can and read reviews in detail if you can't and I even agree with that to some extent.

Also imo Hukd is not here so everyone can buy cheapest stuff possible (there are Chinese tablets for 20-30£ which are barely more useful than a brick and you can't find many posted here). I am here to find value for money. I don't mind paying 300£ for a tablet if there is a (very good for that kind of money) reason to do so.

Regarding the actual deal I have had a couple of friends with bad experience with galaxy tab's (2 and 3 to be specific) and both became virtually unusable after a year or two, while Nexus 7 2013 is still a pretty awesome device (running marshmallow) and you can pick that up for about 100£ (I think it is 110£ in Argos now) and I would say the 20£ extra is definitely worth it. All in all I am highly sceptical of Samsung tabs.

All that said this is still a pretty good price for this specific device...

I suppose in isolation the comment was valid. But to address it to people interested in and looking at a post for a £90 tablet? However I will take it on board and next time I am in Aldi I will suggest to a few shoppers that they should really be aiming for Fortnum & Mason or at least that they have checked out the reviews and not just walked in on impulse.
I have the Galaxy Tab 3 lite which I paid £78 a year ago. It's not the fastest on earth but is great for Internet, movies and books. The 4 (and not a lite) should be loads better so this price is great.

If I had the money I'd get an iPad mini but that's 4 times this price so it really does depend what you need it for
none in stock anywhere in Leeds but got display model and saying no stock they waiting for 2 weeks

not true. there is lollipop 5.1.1 on XDA
I bought one and I can take my hands out of it. It has a good design, a great performance and it is very helpful. The price it is good.
none in my local, could do with this for my upcoming holiday, rather than take my tab s incase I break it

Might not be such a bad thing.

Going from 4.4 to 5.0 made my Note 3 a worse device. (Bluetooth being, and still is, the worst part affected)

If this goes to 5.1 when it updates, then maybe not so bad (apparently 5.1 is an improvement). But I'd rather still be on 4.4 than the 5.0 I'm currently stuck with. Still no sign of a 5.1 update and I can't be bothered dicking around with rooting and custom roms.
