really good price for the 16GB version - Jellybean ROM possibly aval (see post 2 thanks to cRuNcHiE)

Amazon still want £290

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 is the Goldilocks of tablets; it's just the right size that fits between the small 7.1 inch and large 10.1 inch slates on the market.

With an 8.9 inch screen its big enough to watch a film on but light enough to use with one hand, the Tab 8.9 is a fast and gorgeous looking tablet that is ideal for on the go.

It condenses all the power from its larger brother, the Galaxy Tab 10.1, and squeezes it into a smaller, more manageable design. In doing so, the Tab 8.9 is perfect for those who don't want the extra 100g of heft for a 10-inch tablet such as the iPad 2.

The HD display is packed with pixels, giving users a brilliant screen for watching films, reading eBooks or simply browsing the web.

A fast and smooth performance is delivered thanks to the 1GHZ dual-core Nvidia Tegra processor which gets the best out of the Android 3.2 Honeycomb software (Ice Cream Sandwich update is available) - breezing through 3D games and juggling dozens of widgets, feeds and multi-tasking apps without a stutter.

Motion-sensor treats are on board too. It has Samsung's nifty TouchWiz capability, making it easier to navigate your tablet.
Features you'll love:

The size a Tablet was always meant to be, not too small, not too bulky - 8.9 inches, 8.6mm slim and 470g it's the perfect size for on the go.
Minimalist design, just the on/off button and volume rocker are the only physical buttons.
Portable media hub - Read e-Books, magazines, watch films and play games all on the stunning HD display.
Get 9 hours use from the 6100mAh battery.
A 2MP front facing camera means you can take the board room with you. And the 3MP rear camera takes sharp photos.
Comes in a cool white/sleek black finish.

That ROM is for the Galaxy Tab 10.1

Probably a very bad idea to flash that.
This is a great tab and price - i have the 10.1 and my wife the 8.9 - I'd say the 8.9 really is the perfect tab size, feels much lighter but you don't feel like you're missing out on screensize
good price, nice to see tablet prices coming down.
which is best to get this or the nexus 7?

Camera: 3MP auto-focus with LED flash, 720p HD video recording / 2MP front camera

Good alternative for the Nexus 7 for those wanting a larger screen but doesn't come with either sd card slot or HDMI out, which are the main complaints regarding the nexus 7. The spec is a generation back (tegra 2) and is 100g heavier, but the extra 1.9 inches will make viewing webpages a little easier. The battery life should be very similar (the nexus has a smaller batter, but also smaller screen).

Will Google Play be available for this (once Jelly Bean has been downloaded) ?
Is Motorola XOOM 2 Media Edition 16GB Wi-Fi , better than this one for the same price ?
"its big enough to watch a film on but light enough to use with one hand"

Why on earth would anybody want to watch a film with one hand?

I saw that but wondered why they show it in black.
I bought a black one from a similarly priced eBay deal on here a few months back. Here's my experience of it.

The size and weight is perfect and suits my preference much more than a small 7" or a large 10".
The stock browser in ICS is a vast improvement over the old Gingerbread browser and even any of the third party browsers.
The custom roms available to install are excellent. Based on the AOKP builds.
The YouTube app will play videos just fine at a native 1280x720 so you don't get any scaling which is nice. MXPlayer with the correct settings will play 720p MKV videos no problem. Netflix works perfectly too.
Seeing that I hate touchscreen parlour games, my favourite feature is probably the ability to pair a PS3 controller via Bluetooth to work with emulators and games such as Grand Theft Auto 3. Great for long journeys or whenever you're away from your computer.

I sold my iPad 2 late last year and I prefer the Galaxy Tab 8.9 in every respect.

Hope this helps anybody on the fence about buying this fantastic tablet.

I have both 8.9 tab and nexus 7 and just to confirm to anyone interested in the 8.9 tab, it is slightly laggy on stock Honeycomb 3.2 but meant to be getting ICS in the next few weeks if Samsung finally get their finger out. The Galaxy Tab has a good range of accessories including an SD card and USB connection kit so you can in fact expand storage to a degree. There is also an HDMI connection kit too so that covers watching on a big screen. Nexus 7 currently doesn't have these options unless you root the device. Nexus 7 is smoother but the screen doesn't seem as vibrant as the Tab. They're both very good tablets IMO.

I have HP Touchpad how did you get ICS on it?
guys i'm thinking of going for this for my Huawei Ascend g300. Should I be worried of the fact that it's from a playtrader and not directly from play?

Fairly simple, runs like a champ too. The only sacrifice is that the camera isn't working (which I never use).
