Edit: As at 15:00 Saturday black model is sold out, white model, link below is still on sale.
In the device setting : Android 7, Device name is :Galaxy Tab A (2016) Model number: SM-T585

At first I thought it was an Amazon listing mistake and that it was a non-LTE one as John Lewis, Argos are selling the Wi-fi only version for £159.
Box came and had LTE marked top right hand corner, IMEI number printed on the side and I found its SIM slot (nano SIM) on the tablet. This is the LTE version for the same money with model number SM-T585 marked on the box.For those large tablet users for detailed information (navigation maps, Microsoft documents, PDF files, split screen views of two documents side by side) while on the move,3G/4G is a blessing.

Warning : Samsung power plug is the 2 pin Euro plug, not three pin UK.
And it has a standard USB to micro USB cable (which could be plugged into any USB hub). My item is German stock originally.

Click on new
for more options of sellers on Amazon page. The black one did not require PRIME a few days' ago, now it does. The cheapest seller is the Amazon UK.

When it is out of stock, just order it. Mine was in estimated delivery mode for a few days waiting for stock and then all of a sudden it switched to despatched state.

LTE means it supports

  • 2G GSM
    GSM850, GSM900, DCS1800, PCS1900

  • 3G UMTS
    B1(2100), B2(1900), B5(850), B8(900)

  • 4G FDD LTE
    B1(2100), B3(1800), B5(850), B7(2600), B8(900), B20(800)

  • 4G TDD LTE
    B40(2300)

The white version is here at £179 and you don't need to be a PRIME customer. Or you could try to wait if Amazon switches back the black coloured one to everyone can buy.
You could ask John Lewis to do a price match.

Thats quote good. I've bought 6 or 7 of these for £130 to £150 brand new on auction sites and gumtree. But obviously better to get it from a retail store for a few quid more.

Excellent job if you had the LTE models for that money, as you know quite hot voting for the wifi only model here for £159 at John Lewis and Argos.
Been cheaper in the last couple of weeks on here?
Is this the 2016 model?
For the LTE model (i.e. with a SIM card slot) - it's a bargain. Stick a data sim in these and they make a very useful thing to chuck in the bag when travelling.

Have some heat.

Thanks!

What is the technical difference in specs and in use in anger? Samsung UK web site is selling this 2016 model for £229 samsung.com/uk/…85/
Its Eur 2-pin plug has 8th November 2017 as its date of manufacture though, if it means anything.

Great deal, thanks OP. Fingers crossed for an xmas delivery....

I got this tablet through the £76 o2 refresh deal earlier in the year. Although it came out in 2016 it is a great tablet, good screen, great battery life and runs smooth. Has the Nougat update now and may even get oreo. Unlike apple's LTE, you can actually use this tablet as a phone, and as strange as its sounds I actually did for about a month.

Quite right, the Samsung LTE does telephone calls and SMS messaging, great for those social network apps which needs SMS to verify "identity" (well at least a mobile number) including some of the foreign hotel and taxi apps abroad which need to send you an SMS message for a new account.

Is this better than the S2 Samsung tablet?

No, the S2 is the top of the range for 8" and have just been replaced by the S3 as top for the 9.7". If you can get an S2 for not much more, go S2 for sure.
I got it my hubby for Christmas who's not computer literate. Can you tell me if it will be good for Amazon, eBay ect. Any help greatly appreciated xx

I don't even know how you use it, how can I know it is better for you in specifics. You have to at least state what your selection criteria are in "better", moreover is your S2 8" or 10.1"?

Yes, it will be good for that, moreover, at least two people on this thread were unaware, the "LTE" function as implemented by Samsung (not Apple) which I emphasised above means that you can make phone calls and send/receive text message and while you are away from wifi (home) and on the road. (You can put a telephone sim in it.) Normally one could pay £50 or more for this extra LTE function.

I have seen non- computer literate people who are 70+ age use this specific tablet. This 10.1" has much larger surface area than smaller tablets. So it is much easier to see the text on eBAY and Amazon in normal text screen mode.

Have you a link or two to your so called 2017 model (with specs)?
Excellent deal and thanks for posting. Now you made me spend £150 which was totally unplanned. LTE tab with 10 inch HD screen and expandable memory. What more can I wish for this price.

piss off with your attitude, I asked a civil question

speak for yourself, no need for your unkind remark, I am asking a perfectly civil question too so I can have a look at this 2016/2017/or whatever information too and post a comparison here for others to share as I said I didn't know below, only a manufacturer date on a Euro plug.

I already replied that I didn't know as there are no dates on the box other than the plug. I have no idea if the year 2016 means anything or makes a difference, so if there is 2015, 2017 model information then it is fair to do a comparison by bringing on the different specs.

Yes, I knew that days ago. The point is what is its signifcance before we go forensic, it is only meaningful if Samsung's web sites around the world have 2017, 2015, 2018 year stamp on their web pages etc. for this SM-T585 model.

The bottomline is what is the expected material difference, the Amazon description was good enough for me and I bought purely on the strength it has LTE and is a big format for documents. And this is cheap if one knows how 4G large tablets are typically priced in the last five years.

I've bought a load of both, T580 and T585. I generally only bought them if brand new and at a reasonable price 130 to 150. Half of them have been the LTE T585 model. I don't think people selling them realise that it can take a sim card. I don't use the tablets for that anyway, so its absolutely no use to me. I just buy these based on the price, whether i get the wifi only model or LTE model it doesn't matter. Just wifi and bluetooth are used on them. I will probably buy some more via amazon though.

By the way these tablets are pretty solid. They feel more durable than the latest T810/T813's that go for £300 which ive bought a few of as well.
White tab at £179 showing as "Temporarily out of stock. Order now and we'll deliver when available. We'll e-mail you with an estimated delivery date as soon as we have more information. Your account will only be charged when we dispatch the item."
But but it was cheaper on black Friday

OP... you do state that your order was in estimated delivery mode for a few days... how many days did it take for your order to be dispatched.. just wondering if I could take a chance with this being delivered in time for christmas... cheers..

It was 8 days inclusive day of order and delivery, so it was in wait state for stock for ~6 days. So if you ordered today, on the same timescales as me, which is an assumption, then delivery on 22nd.

I ordered it yesterday and now saying delivery for the 19th dec. So obviously not guaranteed for Xmas, but seems stock is coming in fairly promptly. Can just order and see how it goes over the next few days maybe, then cancel if needed.

Thumbs up to the OP - I ordered a black one; wasn't sure it would be honoured but it is apparently arriving Tuesday. This will be perfect for me to chuck in the laptop bag when travelling - means I can retire my trusty but knackered old 3G Galaxy Note 8.0

Nice one, thanks!
