Is this better then the galaxy tab A?

Yes, this is the best 8" tablet that Samsung currently make. The tab A is lower, and the tab E is even lower.

Tempting
Finally
Very good tablet. I've had one a LTE version for a while now and it's still going strong. I love the 4:3 aspect ratio too.

Very good price for a good tablet.

If I'd not just bought a Mediapad M3 in the USA for £142, I'd be all over this to replace my 2 year old Tab S2 8".

Great performance from this.
Love the screen.
Mine already came with Android 7.
Thin and light.
Good battery life.

I think this is the cheapest any retailer has offered this

It was cheaper with 20%off eBay discount, but that expired, good deal for a great tablet, hot

Agreed Lamboo.

At 8", its the best screen you can buy and its also the lightest tablet which makes usage for long periods a breeze. This does come at the expense of battery life but you can't have it all.
Seems a good price, I thought Samsung had dropped out of the tablet space years ago and all that was left was the decent Apple iPads and the rubbish Android stuff.

Good to see there are still some good alternatives to the iPad out there.

This isn't a new product David, it was originally released in 2015 and had a different CPU for the 2016 version, (both look identical.) Due to the age, both aren't as fast as the latest ipad. On the other hand, not all of us want such a restrictive device and this OLED screen is second to none.

Oh, so Samsung has stopped making tablets? I wasn't knocking Android in general, more stating that the last time I looked there wasn't really any real competition to the iPad. Everything was cheap chinese crap at stack em high sell em cheap pricing.

I was genuinely hopeful that Samsung was still making a decent Android option.

Ah wait, I can see that Samsung has the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3. So there is thankfully still some real competion out there.

No problem David.

There are actually around 5 high end Android tablets (Samsung, Asus, Lenovo, Huawei,) but none of them are the full package. Me and a few others talked about this a few days ago. hotukdeals.com/dea…182
Purchased the 2016 version from Samsung for £183.20 recently (£229.00 minus 20% discount that the Samsung site had on at the time - 15/1/18). Much prefer this to the Lenovo tab 4 plus 8" that I tried recently. I found scrolling performance on the Lenovo to be slow and the Samsung has no such problems and seems a more premium device with fine performance for Chrome and other reading apps (although I have been using a Nexus 9 and that will make anything seem fast).

The only thing I have disliked is the physical home button that needs to be pressed rather than just touched. Also the back button is on the rhs rather than lhs when compared to my other Android devices.
Had mine for about a year and a half, absolutely brilliant tablet, and I only paid £129 I think. If it broke I would happily pay £209 for a replacement

An interesting thread, although seems to indicate that if you want the full package you might as well get an iPad. Am thinking I might get a Fire Tablet from amazon for the kids and maybe the iPad for me and the Mrs.

Still the iPad is now 9 months old, I wonder if they will bump the specs again in March, decisions decisions.

The S3 unfortunately is overpriced for what you get. If you look on the XDA S3 forum, there are also quite a few teething problems for now.

I use an app called, "All in one gestures," which allows you to reverse the button order without having to hack/root etc. Works perfectly.

I think many still buy Android tablets as the ipad is far from the full package also. Once you have the OLED screen on the S2, it would be very hard to go back to the LCD of the other Android tablets or the ipad to give an example.
It is worth noting, the link Tesco provide for the NowTV offer also eludes to 75% off of the same NowTV packages for existing Samsung Device owners, the details are here....

Thanks ordered for mother in law
Thought these were like rocking horse now days, The Samsung Tab S was voted a great tablet back in the day but i'm sure the S2 was not so favourable.

Decent price tho for what it is so heat from me and if honest I'll more than likely grab one, thanks for heads up
I got the Samsung Galaxy Tab3 (8 inch) some 3 years ago....been in daily use ever since. Lovely Tablet and i much prefer it to my wife's iPad2
This is a great price. I got the Galaxy Tab S2 10" about a year ago for £350 and it's a great tablet, although I honestly don't use it that much anymore, in between my OnePlus 3T and Macbook, although I did get some good use out of it on holiday in the summer. Good as an e-reader, for watching video, and powerful enough to run any game. If you're into emulation this is a great tablet. The fantastic screen and thinness of the device are the main selling points.

However, I'm not sure the 8" version is really worth getting, given most phones have 5-6" screens already, and most people have phones. Also, while the 4:3 aspect screen is great for reading and 95% of other tasks, it does mean video is letterboxed, which is an issue on the smaller 8" screen.

Good spot. Worth posting as a separate deal IMO. There's a shed load of samsung tablet owners out there who may be potentially interested in a cheap NOW package.
£20 bar cheaper than the deal I posted. So very hot for me. I bought one from JL and its a great tablet. I highly recommend these case for this tablet. The case is robust with the added bonus the silicon redirects the sound from the side speakers forward and the tablet sounds good. amazon.co.uk/gp/…c=1

You might buy it as 6 but it will update to 7.
Would this be a good upgrade from a hudl 2?

Yes much better
I paid £229 from JL at black Friday deal. Great tablet [great screen, light and very quick] great experience. Well worth it at this price. Better than my previous iPad mini retina 8.
I love my kindle fire and it is much cheaper, but it does not support nowtv even after getting google store on it and the silk browser is tooooooo slow.
Octa core processor 1.8 Ghz or better 1.9 Ghz from JL ??

Probably wrong product description on the John Lewis website, as the Exynos version is no longer sold.

The newer version of this tablet has a Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU, whereas the older version of this tablet has a Samsung Exynos CPU.

Apparently not much difference in performance, so unclear why Samsung changed the CPU in 2016.
