Yeah I couldn't resist either when I saw it go (well) below £300. The cashback deal will expire by Christmas so a big retailer would have to price beat Amazon in the next few days. Possible but unlikely. A good excuse to buy in any case!

I'd love to know this too, if they will I'll trundle on up to the Oxford Street one on my lunch and grab one.
Is this any good? I was thinking of going for the new iPad for a similar price... ... I feel sure I read some negative reviews for this, not sure where though.
Is this any good for drawing & does it come with a pen?
OOS already...pathetic! No need to worry about your JL pricematches then.

Personally I would get an iPad - The app support is much better.

Won't price match online retailers anyway will they?
Great tablet. Great deal.
gone....

No it doesn’t have a pen . No support . You need s4 s6 for this .

Depends what you'll be using the tablet for. If you need it for select apps which absolutely must have the greatest experience then get the device right device.

I haven't used an IOS device since the iPhone 3GS which I moved to after using Windows Mobile for years. I moved to Android because of the open OS and yes back then apps were lacking on Android.

Today, my teenage kids regularly switch between IOS and Android and never once has one of them commented about apps being better on one platform or the other.

If you watch some of the YouTube comparisons between Android and IOS smartphones or tablet often the reviewer will say their is no difference in the apps experience, it's all down to personal preference.

Sorry for the long post but I see this "iPad apps are better" line posted in nearly every Android tablet deal.

I recently bought the Tab S6, if it wasn't for the great price I was able to get using trade-in, Samsung loyalty voucher and cashback I'd have picked an an S5e at this price.

Three negatives :

Mainly how future proof the mid range processor is.

wifi seems to degrade if you like holding it landscape mode in the lower corner . The effect is strong if you hold it tight with no case . Otherwise is not so bad if you have a good connection anyway .

Lastly app support. This is miles behind iPadOS . Though If you’re gonna use it as a mainstream casual device with no specialised apps it’s a no brainer- Quad speakers , stunning screen , battery good , storage options . Dex ( if you ever need productivity it’s great )

I also have both and my day to day phone is Android, I just personally find the iPad to be better. Also Samsung are not great at supporting devices (usually on two years of updates) when they get older and people tend to upgrade tablets less than phones.

I have this and and an old Tab S2 and i keep thinking about selling the S5e because it's held its value so well and I don't really need it, but it has too much going for it: great screen, good speaker, long battery life.

I probably misunderstood your comment. As the poster above says "iPad" app support is better. We haven't had an iPad in the house since the original version on release day so no recent experience here.

The other comment above is also true about the S5e having a midrange processor. The S5e and comparable iPads will probably be used for media consumption 90% in which case choose the form factor which suits you best, 4:3 for reading and 16:10 for video

I'd sell the S2, that tablet still seems to be doing OK on Gumtree etc.

Out of interest do switch between the tabs much depending on your usage. Tab S2 for reading and S5e for video?

The second issue - we are yet to experience this after 7 months of ownership. Bought one for my wife's birthday back in May and I'm yet to see this Wi-Fi issue.
Gold version must have been this price too as it's also out of stock. I almost got one of these during the Black Friday sales but thought I'd wait to see if they dropped a bit more around Christmas.
Didn't get here in time to get one for this price though
Good price but personally looking for a good deal on the Tab S6 but nothing found yet...

expired already? still seems to be available at that price on there. Just having a quick look around to see if I can get the £50 back if I order from there

EDIT: Ebuyer aren't on Samsungs list of retailers that qualify you for getting £50 back
Edited by: "wee_snoop" 20th Dec 2019
Anyone comparing this to the similar-priced iPad 10.2 (2019), well they're just different devices. If you're consuming a lot of media or want to drag and drop media onto it get the Samsung, the screen and speakers alone are worth it, the iPad in comparison has a comparatively terrible display with a big air gap so it's unpleasant - you'd need the Air 3 or Mini 5 to avoid that. If you're after apps and games then the iPad might be better, but if I was choosing I couldn't have the entry-level iPad, it's just not great and the hardware while still acceptably fast, is a 2016 chipset.

You are right and also I didn't realise they charged for delivery. So it is not the same deal hence I 'expired' it.

Yes, this tablet is probably the best media consumption device on the market, especially in terms of value. The S6 is obviously better all round but overkill for most people IMO. If I were an iPad user I'd skip the entry level one from what I've heard and go for the Air. I've used a friend's one and they're solid pieces of kit, good for general use.

Sorry about the quick OOS, I'll expire... I noticed some strange voting patterns when the deal went live, waves of downvotes, perhaps to keep the temp down while they were all bought up? Then again, could just be Apple fans

Yes, I had one and sold it as I wasn't using it enough but it's ridiculously thin, well-made and the display is unlike anything on the iPad side - plus you can drag and drop films and music straight onto it, which you can't do on the iPad (and that always really annoyed me). Though the Air 3 has a very good IPS display in its own right. I don't really like Samsung AMOLEDs as they have a habit of burning in quickly, I see 1-2 year old Samsung devices with light AMOLED burn all the time.

Thanks, I'll watch out for burn in and set the screen timeout low. It's my first OLED device of any type so I hope the tech lives up to the hype!

Mine too and I've finally had a chance to put it through its paces. This thing decodes 4k hdr10 video files like they're nothing. Of course it's downscaled to 1440p but it looks incredible in the Oled screen
