Samsung gear 360 camera £49.60 Sold by RoyalNote123 and Fulfilled by Amazon.com - Used Very Good Condition

25
Found 26th Feb
Older, 2016 model, but preferred by many to the 2017 model. US version.

USED - VERY GOOD CONDITION on Amazon US, including Amazon global shipping and import duty deposit (which I assume is code for, 'we'll be sneaking it into the UK without paying tax, but we'll take this extra money as a reward for our impressive moral disregard')

More than 10 still available for the same price from the seller, who has pretty decent rating.

Nearest previous price which went hot in December was £68 (new) on Amazon.de, so even though the price might fluctuate a little with currency shifts, this should be worth it.

If you would prefer to buy in USD, this might bring the price down further for you depending on your card issuer. Mine will be £48.06 as it uses the visa international exchange rate.

sounds good, I got some stuff form usa amazon, paid the import tax before about a month later they refunded me some of the cost as it was cheaper to import
in for 3. thanks OP!
I should have probably added that even if the used ones run out at that price, a new one with all of the shipping and fees paid still only works out at £63.60.
anyone know where I can get a waterproof housing for a good price ?
What about PAL/NTSC thing since its US import?

What about PAL/NTSC thing since its US import?

The short answer is that they aren’t used anymore, at least not in the same way that they were originally intended to be. As you might imagine, the technical challenges these encoding systems were created to solve in the 1950’s don’t really apply to the modern world. However, DVDs are still labelled NTSC or PAL, and the timings, resolutions, and refresh rates established in these systems are still used in modern televisions and monitors.

But for 360 videos, they will never be played through a TV signal, but always through a PC or phone or VR device, so the refresh rates and frame rates matter even less.

You don't need a Samsung - the 360 videos you just upload to your youtube acct or equivalent and can view in VR wiht any phone or PC etc

Seen this also from the Amazon US. amazon.com/Und…QQK
I've had one a while but still haven't got the software running yet as the packaging didn't seem to contain the licence key. Has anyone had similar problems getting it to work?

I'd definitely rather a new one and save the hassle too. Good shout, cheers

Apparently if you download the software from here

samsung.com/us/…50/

You can just just connect your gear 360 and it will register the software automatically.

I haven’t personally tried it as I got a licence key with mine, but that’s what I read when I was looking as second hand ones.

Can anyone who has one of these confirm a few quick queries for me please

1) I have a Huawei phone. Should I move on or does this work?

2) Is there any downside to buying a US version, other than the plug?

Thanks!

You don't need any phone for this to work. You can use it just like a Gopro - a few buttons to scroll through the menus. Then just transfer the footage to your PC for stitching and editing. The app is mainly for changing settings quickly and for framing your shot. You'll soon get used to this though, so I wouldn't worry. I don't have a Samsung phone, but used a Gear 360 which I borrowed from work and it really wasn't an issue, so that's why I'm buying my own.

As for the plug, it's the same as it's a USB and I can't see any differences is the spec. As everything will end up on Youtube or Facebook which are standard throughout the world, I guess it wouldn't matter anyway.

As the camera has no screen how do you really know what you're going to capture? I know it's 360 but I'd like to know light balance etc. so I know if I need to take it again. Not enough to buy a samsung phone though!

They're legacy formats, they don't and never have applied to this product and similar products. They're a TV standard, irrelevant to this deal.

Well I can watch them in Firefox (for instance) on Youtube and they usually give a totally distorted view which you can'.t rotate.. If I download them (^ ^), they don't play properly im VLC. I've not tried media player in Windows 7, or 10 for that matter, maybe worth a try then.

Youtube and google photos - plays them fine in chrome and ie & edge. the Winodws 10 film viewer plays them fine from hard disk (nb not media player that is a separate program)
Bought one of these, great bit of kit

I really think you'd get used to what shot you're going to get very quickly. I've made a lot of TV shows with gopros with no screens and rarely miss the shot. The 360 video is going to be more forgiving and you can always re-centre the zero point on a 360 video in the edit so that your main focal point is in the right place. As you say, light is the main issue, so other than being aware of light sources and dark spots while shooting, it's a bit of a gamble. However, I did see that there is an app which cracked the samsung app for any phone, available here: forum.xda-developers.com/and…383
I can't tell you anything about it as I've not tried yet. But once the camera comes, I'll give it a go.
