i'm fairly tempted by this...

£200 content is:
5 ebooks
15 movies
50 Mp3's
7 games.

Would've been nice, if they given the option of £200 cash or the content.

Tesco have 20% off these at the moment - not sure what the price is?

£200 for this would be more realistic...Big flop i reckon for sammy though i have the Galaxy s phone this would be just a extra gadget to equip myself with like most would so way too expensive at the moment.
Hk

Wait for Android 3. It will be much faster.

Galaxy is too slow for web browsing.

No-one will pay close to what the ipad costs for something that is generally accepted (however mistakenly) as an inferior product.

Nice product.. rumours are that the magic price is £299. I'd wait for it to hit this before taking the plunge (plus Galaxy Tab 2 is coming soon I think).

It's probably the best made tablet besides the iPad, plus its a (big) phone. Works well when running latest firmware and browsing is a good experience, certainly not slow. But lack of commitment from Samsung is a worry.

600,000 units sold in the first month. Massive flop.
Still overpriced tho. And I hear rumors that android 3.0 will prefer dual cores. Should I hold out? Will it drop to £250?
Edited by: "wireframe" 26th Jan 2011

IMO you'd be mad to buy this right now, wait for Android 3.0 before getting a tablet as Samsung are notoriously bad at updating their old products.

Also the iPad 2 is right around the corner.

Update it yourself, its just Android. Can I make a phonecall on the iPad2? Will it fit into my pocket? Can I run Android on the iPad?

If the answer to any of these is "No", that could be the reason I'm looking at this product, and haven't bought an iPad already.

Its like finding a deal on formal shoes and someone going "Snowboots are better"
Better for what?
Skiing, snowboarding, sure.
But not for what *I* want shoes for.
Just a pointless comparison

Horses for courses. I'm waiting for a good and reasonably priced Android tablet. That's not going to suit everyone. But it's definitely what I want.Since most tablets are pretty much a netbook with less storage, no keyboard, and a touchscreen added I don't really want to end up paying much more than netbook prices.

Personally I would recommend anyone looking at this tablet to hold off for now,

If you're interested in all tablets then the new iPad will probably be announced in the next month, and rumours are that they may do a similar thing to the iPhone and have the 1st generation iPad on sale with the 2nd Generation, which would mean a cut in price brining it closer in line with what "should" be paid for it (hopefully around £299 for 16GB)

If youre really not interested in the iPad, id still wait as the motorola zoom is rumoured to come out in the next month, this has android 3.0 and a dual core so is a much better option, plus those people with a short budget will see the Galaxy Tab drop in price again

Those on a tight budget, check the Advent Vega or the Archos 101 for a 10" tablet, or for a 7" tablet the Archos 70

Many thanks for very useful info.

IVe got one already for work and it cost alot more than this. Its a good device and IMO better than the iPad. We are using alot more video conf and this is something you cant do on an iPad. The Sammy has a front and rear facing camera and has a much more usable sized screen. For watching films on a flight its perfect. I want to watch the film and not have everyone in a 5 seat radius have to watch it too. Andriod sales are outselling Apple so that must be something. BTW i have an iPhone 4 too so im not an apple hater.

These deals are coming back where they try and tempt you with £200 of extra stuff. Do you actually want the extra £200 worth of stuff? Probably not, so not such a good deal after all..........

this is a great price, if a 7" is whats wanted it'll have a better finish than the low end huawei / archos products. if 7" isn't enough and you have the budget then it would be worth waiting, but for a 7" tablet this is good

is this a phone aswell? silly question but thought I'd ask as it seems just a little more than the streak & much better device

HTC would make better shoe's than Samsung. Apple sho's will be too funky with velcro on it as their too behind with features, they'll have lace version on the following year & loafers in 3-4 years

Android 3.0 is a tablet OS. Android 2.x is a phone OS. Wait. We're only talking about 3 months for a gadget you shouldn't need to replace for 2 years.

you better wait few weeks because t-mobile us selling them now for $250 so it is gonna be much cheaper soon.

Don't forget 10 million sold in total so far too :P I wouldn't go for it though, I'd wait for Honey Comb tablets to appear as knowing Samsung the Galaxy Tab won't get past Froyo.

There are some good custom ROMs out though and different kernals that overclock it to 1.2GHz that apparently makes a big difference.

It functions as a phone as well, whereas the Advent Vega has stripped all the phone functionality out of Android Froyo 2.2. The Samsung Galaxy Tab has the Samsung UI over the top, which gives it multiple home screens and some extra widgets. In comparison, the Advent Vega has been pared down to what’s necessary. While most people can’t envisage themselves holding the 7” tablet up to their faces to call, it does mean that you do only need one device. The Samsung Galaxy Tab is far more feature rich than the Advent Vega tablet. Question is, do people want a tablet that’s a phone as well?

"Samsung has validated sales figure of their Galaxy Tab. It has reached more than 1 million units from 600,000 sold in just two weeks."

Shame they didn't price this correctly over Xmas. Would have looked at this when the Vega sold out if it was a bit closer in price.

Managed to get the Viking offer on the Ipad for £330 in the end and very happing with it. My netbook has not been used for weeks now for browsing. Works even better tethered to my San Fran on GiffGaff for 3g.

Well thats 14 million in 12 months with Apples huge Hype mahine working overtime, the Galaxy tab sold 1 million in just over a month with Samsung seemlingly trying their hardest to make it flop by massively overpricing it, so its not a bad start really,

I did read this interesting bit of news About the Galaxy in the US being dropped to $249
gizmocrunch.com/and…ice

Even with the usual crappy trans-atlantic conversions (i.e. $249 becoming £249) it would be well worth waiting for that price drop, and I could see sales take off again

montana78

One interesting thing to try, if you were thinking of using the Tablet as a phone you could also get the Sonyricsson Liveview which is a bluetooth watch that you can sync with your tablet.

blogs.sonyericsson.com/pro…A2/

From what I read you use an app on the tablet to select apps which can "sync" with the watch, and you can then use the watch to control the tablet by viewing emails/texts, playing music, answering calls ect... Quite useful and saves you unpacking the tablet every time you get a text, although you obviously cant respond to emails/texts on the watch

Be careful with this, I think there's something that's disabled in the US version that's fine over here. It might actually be the phone functionality, but don't quote me. Just caveat emptor
