Good spot - great price - cheers.

Great price, I have two of these, highly recommended..

I believe these are also grey imports though.

Good price but it's got to be worth an extra £5 to get a 3 year warranty by buying from Amazon? Mine arrived from Amazon this morning, well packaged, manufactured this feb so no firmware issues and 3 year warranty.

This might sound out of place; but is there anyone on HUKD who did not buy this drive yet?

ME. Come on Amazon

Grey!

As mentioned in another thread, ebuyer seem to only be offering 1 year on these, uncharacteristically cagey of them to not list the warranty info on the product page. I agree that the extra few pounds for a full 3 year warranty direct with Samsung is well worth the extra investment.

is it 3 year warranty free? I didnt find any info on Amazon about this 3 year warranty, but the one costs £15 (Protect This Item from Accidents with a 3-Year SquareTrade Warranty). Thanks

All Samsung hard drives come with a 36 month manufacturers guarantee.

Me.

I need 4 and am waiting for them to get to £50 or less each for my HP Microserver.

Excuse my ignorance but why would this drive be prefferable to the - Western Digital Caviar 2TB SATAII 64MB Cache 3.5-inch Green Internal Hard Drive OEM which costs 6p more (on Amazon) but has twice the Cache?

Cheers.

For storage this drive is better. It's slower than WD, but quieter, supports RAID and does not have sleep/wake up/spin up problems of WD.

You know, there is going to be 3TB drive for £65, when this one hits £50.

Nice drive , just wish you did not lose so many Gigs on HD's once formatted

Except the grey euro imports which don't

Yeah, unfortunately it's only when you type in the s/n and get the 'out of service region' code on Samsung's warranty page you realise you've got one.

Yup seems to be with ebuyer at least get one and check then return under DSR if it's not under warranty

On Scan's "Today Only" for the weekend at £58.19. With the free next day delivery (order by lunch time tomorrow and you'll get it Monday!) and the full 3-year warranty for the extra £2.21 I know where my money would go!!!

i need a couple but am waiting for the magical £50 mark!

Yeah this is my plan. Not sure how many I will get once they hit £50 though.

Anywhere I can get a good enclosure for this

Same here. I need four.

I've got one of these already, along side a Vertex 2E SSD.

Another 2 are going into my D-Link 323 NAS

Be impressed so far at how quiet they are.

For storage, they're perfect. I've personally bought them from Scan though from Today Only, due to next day delivery being free.

How do you get free delivery with Scan - it looks like it is £3.99 to me?

Also isn't the one from scan a grey import and doesn't come with the 3 year warranty? i.e. part number ends with Z4

All oem have the 3 year warranty which is with the place you purchased it from not always directly with Samsung.

I know this because Samsung has told me directly and Scan has to.

I have also sent drives back to ebuyer that are over 2 years old which the Samsung checker shows out of service area they will just exchange it for one of the same size or send it off to samsung for you.

Are the ones from ebuyer definitely grey imports? It doesn't mention that they are on the website and if they are can't you send them back under the long distance selling regulations?

Check the manufacturing date on these drives as they require a firmware update if its after Nov 2010 !!

Great for storage, just don't rely on this for your main boot-up OS as you will find it painfully slow. I have an F3 and one of these F4s, and tried using the F4 to boot up with the main OS and took around 33% longer - so went back to the F3 for the OS and F4 for storage.
