Well spotted. Would have bought, but really don't need it at present. (Have to save for holidays)

And here it is ... ordered!

What makes the Amazon guys easier to deal with for warranty?

Absolutely nothing. According to reviews it's a gray import. AVOID.

I'm looking at getting a couple of 2TB HDD but do not know the difference between the one in this thread and the one in the thread below:-

Whats the difference? (apart from a fiver) Any advice would be appreciated

It appears that this one has 1 year warranty and other one is 3 years.
Try this:

Would rather go with Ebuyer anyway, at least you know it'll be packaged properly.

Just my recent personal experience, returned 2 Samsung HDDs, free pickup from post office, no hastle on the phone. Must admit never had to return to Ebuyer before.

That's the thing, you're more likely to need Amazon's CS due to their packaging turning to s**t every other week, causing failures because the drives are getting knocked around in the post.
I like my drives to arrive in one piece, so will NEVER us Amazon again.

Fair point.

I think the packaging issue has since been resolved according to a few other posts I've seen on various threads here.

I myself bought a couple of drives from Amazon a while ago and they were packaged OK.

does the eco green one use less power?

Does this model need the firmware upgrade? Honestly can't remember! X) lol

Depends on date of manufacture as far as I recall. Anything after November last year should be OK.

To be clear about this... both this and the other link are exactly the same drive. Except that Samsung knows which country they ship to (serial numbers) and provide NO warranty on *this* deal. You get your warranty (1 year statutory) from Amazon.

If you want the 3 year warranty available from Samsung buy the one called F4EG.

Where can I get one of those?
Ebuyer?

F4 vs F4EG vs F4EG/Z4

There is no difference between these drive numbers.
You cannot tell from this information alone if the drive comes with a UK warranty.

You have to check on the Samsung website after you have bought the item, or check with the vendor.
If you select different countries on their website, you can work out for which ones your drive is covered (normally mutiple ones apply).

I was tempted until I read about the failure rates on these, plus I wouldn't touch a grey import.

Worth spending a little extra for Sata 3?

12m warranty, pffft go ebuyer and get 3yr

My Samsung drives purchased from Amazon have the Samsung 3 Year warranty.

Yes. I bought one 2 months ago, and returned it instantly due to the appalling packaging. Then they introduced the distinction between "Frustration-Free" and "Traditional" packaging. Make sure you select "Traditional" - then it will be be pretty well packaged. Frustration-Free is a bloody joke to ship an HDD in - it shouldn't even be an option.

If it has Rev. A on the case, yes. If it has Rev. B, no. I had a replacement drive from Amazon just last month and they were still shipping Rev. A drives.

No, SATA2 isn't a bottleneck. Only SSD's take advantage of SATA3 at the moment.

Price is now up to £54.47p.
