Good system, got one myself. Its usually is a toss up between this and the Sony and the Sony was cheaper recently.

Good price but I would be inclined to go for the equivalent model from the Sony range (which is £150 @ Amazon). Having owned several pieces of AV kit manufactured by Samsung I find their products on the whole to be adequate without really exuding quality or top performance. Personal opinion, no facts to back this.

Fair enough but have you tried this one?

Samsung's always have more features than the Sony so its worth taking that into consideration. I had the two side by side and decided to go with the Samsung. Horses for courses.

Yeah, it's totally subjective, horses for courses as you say. I don't have this model but did have its predecessor the X35. Probably a bit unfair on this to generalise as I haven't used this specific model. I've had Samusng LCD panels, Home Theatres, Laptop, TFTs, Digital Cameras, Mobile Phones and with all have just felt they all are almost there but not perfect you know. Have found myself looking at comparable models by other manufacturers after purchase thinking 'would that have been better for me?'. You can't knock Samsung's design though - that's as good as anyone else.

I bought this system about a month ago using the same codes then..Im very happy with the sound and quality of it. Works well if you have a Samsung TV' anyway, since the remote can be used for that to.

The only small let down for me is that the phono connection to my sky hd box seems to be louder than the optical cable connection and since the phono is at the front of the box, there's a not so discreet cable which runs to the hd box.

A few people have mentioned this to the Sony dav...i also checked the specs of the Sony compared to this but this does have better features on it. Check out the reviews on reevo.com

 Just to point out, the specs should show 1000 watts max power, not RMS. There's quite a bit of difference between the two!

I have this too. Got mine earlier in the year when there was a deal on this set.
Very good sound quality. There was some talk on reviews about lip-sync issues. This is where, when watching dvds, the dvd player struggles to synchronise the sound with the moving of an actors lips, resulting in their lips moving out of sync with the audio coming from their mouth. I personally, have not really had any issues with this, if it does occur, its only very slightly. Would recommend, its a good system and I am very pleased with mine!

I reckon worth holding off a few months, not long before you'll either get blu-ray or record functionality for this price

also there was a deal for this for £4 more over 3 months ago...... not really a huge price drop since then?

i have this, and i purchased the extra receiver to enable wireless rear speakers to be powered, however i am very dissapointed in the rear speakers, as for some reason every now and again i get distortion, i have tried various things to resolve, but it still happen, any ifo to help me would be appreciated, only thing i will say, is all my comms equipment etc, including the wireless receiver us under my stairs, then the speakers are obviously fitted on the wall, i thought maybe as its a wall between my speakers and the reciever this may cause me the problem? any ideas?

also if anyone can link to some nice speaker stands for the front speakers, that would be great, as i am also yet to find speaker stands wortth

kind regards

You have to wear speakers in, and every couple of months, swap all the L/R speakers... It just wears them in much better, and you shouldn't have your speakers no more than half volume, till about 100HRS or 3 months... My brothers a DJ and he sticks his new speakers in the garage, and just plays a CD over and over, for about 2 months, before he even tries them in his setup....... SO, hopefully, your crackling isn't due to wearing the drivers or you having your speakers on too loud..!

Good Luck!

I also bought this earlier in the year, and overall very impressed with it.

Functionally it does everything I need, I have the PS3/Xbox 360 and also my HTPC connected to it via an optical switch. Just a note, I can get 5.1 DD sound through this using my Trust 5.1 sound card, to confirm this it displays the sound it is processing on the front display.

Sound is very nice, there is an AV-Synch adjustment menu and I experience no lip synch or sound issues. Bluetooth is also a very nice addition and I frequently use my laptop/phone with the unit.

I would definately recommend it to anyone after a good 5.1 system but not needing An Amp/Receiver + Speakers combo. I am probably sticking with this for the forseeable future as I currently have no real interest in the DTS True HD sound format and I am not planning on adding anything else to my setup.

None of the codes seem to be working now.
Will keep my eye on their codes though as this looks a good deal especially if you have a samsung tv

The first code is working for me but the SAVE5 one isnt, although I used HAPPY5 which took 5% off taking the total price to £147.44!

i got this from Dixons months ago with code and have had nothing but trouble with it. The tec guys have been out twice already and i`m waiting for them to come out a third. Replaced fan and drive and its still busted. Maybe i`m just unlucky.

Its an amp for your a/v sources! you'll never want/have bluray or record functionality. If you want bluray get a bluray player. For recording get a pvr

Just wondering if anyone has the dimensions for the unit itself and also the subwoofer. The system im using at the moment doesnt quite fit into the gap i have in the entertainment unit, so its at a stupid angle.

Also could anyone say what the sound quality is like regarding the bass. Again the unit i have the bass even on its lowest setting is ridiculous *shakes floor* at any sort of volume so you end up getting all bass and no middle or treble as the speakers are inaudible at low volumes.

I assume this has an optical in so i could connect straight from 360 to get full 5.1 rather than the simulated 5.1 im getting now?

Hey Kearns,

Im at work just now so will do my best to get you some dimensions when I'm back home,

The bass on the system in its default configuration seems fine to me, not overpowering yet not so subtle as you do not notice it, there are adjustments for this in the menus aswell.

Also aye, it does have an optical port and you will get DD 5.1 sound from the 360, works a treat .

Your old 5.1 wasn't a logitech system by any chance? I had one several years back and the bass on that was terrible, even turned down low it was practically blowing the windows out.

anyone know what the difference between the 310r and 315r which is what i'm toying with the idea of getting

what inputs are with the unit? I have an XBOX 360 and DVD player I dont want to lose - TV is a Sammy so nice to get the same brand if its got inputs!

cheers mike, no its an LG that i have at the moment, no optical, too much bass even on lowest setting and the unit itself is huge. For whats inside the box i cant beleive how big the thing is.

Rail massive, its a shame everyone has missed your comment. Sorry I did
I am not sure if you are definately able to get stands for them or not but there is a bracket at the rear of each speaker. They can definately be wall mounted, and they also have little stands so you can place them up right or lay them on their backs using the stands.

Oh sorry, I didn't realise. Does anything from Argos look good?! :-D I can't stand their stuff.
Seeing as you already have one, just a quick question....

Do you leave yours on all the time, or do you switch it off when you are not watching tv or xbox?
The reason I ask is the bl00dy blue light comes on every flaming time you switch it on, and there is no way of disabling it, that I can find. Apart from having to press the dimmer button each and every time! So I just leave it on with the blue switched off.
But, there are fans in the back which come on when it is on, and I worry I might wear them out.
