Great for folk who want a phone most of the time which is well made, reliable and from a top manufacturer, but who also want some real power when they need it.

Full WM 6.1 with office mobile and ability to install 1000s of freeware and more commercial software (e.g. www.freewareppc.com). Also has microSDHC card slot.

Not the most functional phone, but for those that want a light candybar phone from a top manufacturer with a proper keypad (not touch - I hate!) and all that hidden power if you want to have fun - a real bargain!

Manufacturer's blurb:

Supporting the Windows Mobile 6.1, Samsung i200 provides functional and practical features in business. Users can operate MS Office programs such as Excel, Word, Powerpoint, and Outlook promptly. Intuitive User Interface provides direct-access to the most of menus and easy navigation in home screen. Especially, the phone is very efficient in email features offering HTML format email, easy editing (cut, copy and paste), and unified email and SMS/MMS management. Automatic pop-up helps users know whenever they get email and always be connected.

The slim bar-type form factor with mere 11.8 mm thinness offers compact and stylish design, which is hardly witnessed in most of smartphones. A large enough 2.3 QVGA TFT screen with glossy coating makes users to fully enjoy multimedia contents and complicated business information.

Furthermore, i200 gears up business efficiency through HSDPA 3.6 Mbps data communications. In addition to that, its unique light sensor can help users minimize the power consumption to adjust lightness of LCD and keypad automatically. Multimedia features such as a 2-megapixel camera and music player enhance users entertainment experience.

Geesung Choi, President of Samsungs Telecom Business, said Samsung is going to offer more diverse smartphones for business professionals in line with its recently declared strategy a mobile for every lifestyle.

Samsung i200 is the young, stylish and energetic mobile which will be the perfect mate for urban business professionals, Choi said.

not a good phone but wicked price
A disappointment

I have been waiting for a svelte windows mobile phone to replace my SPV c600 for a long time. I thought that this was it. Unfortunately, however, the phone is so buggy as to be completely unusable - crashing every 30 seconds or so.

I was also a little disappointed by the size of the phone - what it loses in depth, it gains in height and width - and it is certainly not light. Given that it is barely more capable than my old c600, I am surprised that a little more space and weight-saving could not have been achieved.

I am returning this phone for a refund, not a replacement.

importantly it is unlocked, though given the review on play you have to question how good the phone is.

thats one review. Give me any phone and I will find a review like that.
I have had lots of samsung WM phones and they are generaly much more bug free then HTC.
So I will give them the benefit of the doubt.
Anyway mine is coming soon, so I will test.

Another user review:

I just purchased one of these phones, and I'm certainly impressed!

I'd been looking for a phone with this form factor ever since I owned an I-Mate SP3 (a Windows Mobile 2003 phone). It's a non touchscreen candy bar phone with HSDPA running Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard Edition.

I purchased mine from Ebay about a week ago for just over $200 + delivery. This puts it in a similar price range to a 3G modem.

It's not going to suit everyone, because it's fairly basic as far as smartphones go, but it does everything I need. It doesn't have GPS, Wifi or a decent camera, so that could be a deal breaker for some. None of those mattered to me. What's really good is that I find it very easy to use as a standard phone and it has HSDPA that can be used via bluetooth/USB with a laptop/netbook.

My previous phones have been an O2 Atom Life, Nokia E61i, Nokia 6120c – for my needs, this one blows all of those out of the water.

Good points:
- Form Factor: I've always preferred a candy bar style phone, with standard buttons – for me, it's so much easier to use than a touch screen and stylus
- Small: At around 100g, it feels more like a standard phone and doesn't weigh down your pockets. It is slightly bigger than I thought it would be though.
- No touchscreen: I really got sick of getting the stylus out all the time with the Atom, and much prefer a standard keypad (using T9) where I can do everything with one hand. I didn't mind the qwerty keyboard on the Nokia E61i, but disliked it's overall size. I feel I type almost as quick on this anyway.
- Speed is pretty good
- Battery life seems to be good. I got sick of the Atom Life running out of juice, especially when using the 3G connection (usually only lasted a few hours). This seems to last a day at least (though more testing required).

Bad points:
- Screen doesn't use the whole area available, which is a shame because a slightly bigger screen would have been much better. Browsing websites like Whirlpool is fine, but text is small
- Non standard data/charging/earphone port. Would have preferred a standard Mini USB port, but not a major problem for me
- No GPS, Wifi or decent camera (none of which matter to me, but could be a deal breaker for others)

As I said, it won't suit everyone because of the lack of features, but if you need a good phone with HSDPA connectivity for connecting to a PC (bluetooth or USB), I would definately recommend you have a look at this.

It makes a great companion for a netbook.

i just got one on ebay, new £62
