Amazing phone. I've had mine for 6 months now and it's just like a Samsung Galaxy S3, but with a decent OS... ;-)

Same price at Expansys, or are they the same company?

With 16gb built in & it takes memory cards up to 64gb too. This might be the one for me

These are the Ativ S if you could amend the title. Stupid name but decent phone, had mine a week from the Amazon Germany deal for around £177 and very happy with it - really snappy and nice screen, plus the build quality is excellent. Very understated. Heated BTW

is it a trusting site to buy from?

Yes, Scan has been around for a long time and can be trusted.

so when you buy a Windows phone it's the market for apps still the play store off something different? hubby needs a new phone and I know nothing about Windows phones so any pointers would be very appreciated as we currently use android phones.

Windows has its own App Store with a more limited selection of apps compared with Android or IOS (Apple iPhone) - not used it personally.

Same price but I don't think they have stock currently. Only places with stock seem to be ebuyer and Argos at £280-£299.

If you buy the Ativ S from Amazon Germany, it works out to around £177 delivered

Amazon have stock, but £395.09!!!! pity they dont price match! would buy if they had it for around 200.

gosh...luckly I got mine in basket >< going to be buying it now keke

Can you use this phone as a WiFi hotspot? Specifically, I want to tether my Nexus 7. I've no experience with W8 but looking to make the switch after my ever-reliable HTC desire spent some time in the canal!

Said with my tongue very firmly in my cheek. But to be fair I'm a mobile junkie and I think the Window OS is the perfect balance between the stability of iOS phones and the versatility of the Android OS. I completely respect people's personal preferences 100%, but tend to take umbrage at fanboys irrational hatred of other operating systems (without experiencing them in most cases). Sermon over... :-)

I agree with you 100% I find the same....plus the operating system is "cool". Android is for cheapo nobodys.....ios for fickle nobodys.....Windows is for cool kids hahha joke!

Upgrading from Lumia 620. Nice operating system and interface. Just needed a larger screen. Was tempted by the Nexus deal, but with removeable battery and memory expansion this wins for me. Heated and bought. Tried to order for collect, but seems to want to deliver anyway, ah well a coupe of days won't hurt. Cheers OP.

I researched this heavily when the amazon.de deal broke for £177. Great phone and Samsung S3 equiv in terms of hardware for a lot less. However, I was put off by the fact that the music player did not allow for customisation of tone/effect and that the valilla sound was very unimpressive. I live by music and the feedback by other musically obsessed users was that it was a deal breaker.

Forums suggested that there could be firmware updates to allow customisation, but that you should never buy a phone hoping for s.ware updates as you never know what will happen. My son has a nokia 620 and the music quality and customisation is great.

By the way the galaxy s3 does have customisation as does Nokia Windows phones.

Aww already bought this phone >

Phone is great, Best phone I'v had since my Sony K800i back in the day, Just sold my LG Optimus 4x HD for this, Battery goes on forever. And I think WP8 is better than both Android and iOS, It's smoother and looks better than both of them.

Cheaper here from amazon germany, but is it unlocked here? No mention of any carriers nor it being unlocked. amazon.de/Sam…v+s

which is better?
this or the nokia lumia 820?

im after a cheap contract on a windows 8 phone

I picked up this phone today from Scan having used a Lumia 620. I have just been on Store and downloaded Nokia Here Drive, free, which is the Sat Nav. Seems the same as when on a Nokia. Download maps for use off-line. So fill your boots :- Info Gadget Show :-

XDA developers have just announced interop unlock guide which could lead to this being one of the hottest Windows Phones around!!!

I'd certainly unlock mine if they could get it sorted - I did so with my old HTC HD2 which was running a Windows Phone 7 ROM and it was great for sideloading apps etc.

Gosh it's a good phone. Screen is very bright and it's so much better to look at! I luv this phone

Hi, can you let us know if your purchase works out ok please? I posted this same site on an earlier Ativ S deal but members seemed to think that it looked dodgy; customer feedback was also very negative. Have you used them before? Hope all goes well and here is my previous post:

Personally, if I was buying now I would go for the German Amazon deal.

Hi Bully

I cannot comment on the "scam" question but I think the 'one day price' reflects the exchange rate meaning the price is only valid for that particular day, but may not change on the next day. The price has now dropped by £2 since my original post and had risen to £170.

Cheers
