Samsung KS9000 49 inch 10 Bit HDR 4K Curved TV at John Lewis for £849

A great deal if your looking to buy a decent 49 inch 4k panel with full 10 bit HDR.

Personally I have the ks8000 as I don't care much for curved tv's and I believe they share the same specs as each other so I can say that the KS8000 produces a breathtaking image so I would assume that this would be the same and you would'nt be disapointed. Also its from a quality retailer in John Lewis.

I used to defend curved TV's but this one put me off them for good.

Mine had awful uniformity/backlight issues, and a simple Google search shows its widespread on the model and Samsung refuse to admit the issue.

I rang the retailer (Hughes Direct) a few days after setting it up and was told I'd need to get some code from Samsung in order to initialise a return. Samsung then wanted to send an engineer to my house to 'verify' the fault, despite me sending multiple images showing the issue.
I ended up just paying £35 to get it returned and had a refund as I'd taken a day off work to sign for it, so they were having a laugh if I was taking another off for an engineer callout and then another to return it. When I rang the engineer company to cancel the call out even they admitted the KS series have "a lot of issues".

Such a shame as without the uniformity issue, the TV is a blinder. Amazing contrast levels/HDR quality/OS speed... but the backlight clouding meant I was always looking at the corners of the screen during movies, etc.

Supposedly it is possible to get a good one, but reading on forums some people have had to return theirs/have engineer call outs multiple times in order to get one they're satisfied with. But saying that, this is probably the best retailer to get this TV from as I assume they wouldn't make you go through Samsung to 'verify' faults before they refund or replace it...

I do realise this but its only available in store tho and if your lucky enough to have one close enough that infact has some stock as well. So this is an alternative deal for everyone to purchase online.
I'd much rather pay the extra and get it from John Lewis, despite the extra warranty. John Lewis' customer service is second to none. I've had problems with my TVs and within 35 days they simply pick it up and deliver a new one without fuss and you don't have to jump through hoops and go through lenghty diagnosis and speak to the manufacterer e.t.c. Plus everything I've bought from Richer Sounds, despite being described as new always seems to be re-taped/resealed boxes. They probably open it to show and reseal it. I don't want seconds.

Bought my 55" Sony + my 49" Samsung from Richer Sounds , they could not be more helpful .

Both were new and not opened , they even took the 49" Samsung upstairs for my wife as I was in the hospital with my son at the time .
how does this match up to the Lg oled?

Makes me alot less likely to go for any ks models even if they go down to about £500 haha, whats the point in having to send it back 5 times to get a properly working tv, and how long would that one last? probably need to send that one back too after 6 months - 1 year. Disappointed with Samsung as I used to think they were very reliable.

Yeah like I said light bleed I don't think there's a KS series that doesn't to some degree _ forget the 1000 nits etc that would drive me mad!
Yep,I tried to sit down and watch a movie but you quite literally cannot stop looking at the clouding/blooming in the corners - its unbearable with HDR content, and even with the backlight set to 2 for normal content its still there.

its a shame as I don't think there's any other non-OLED TV's at 49-50" that can do 1000 nits apart from the non-curved KS8000... which is around £1000 and probably has the same issues... and at that point you may as well just pay the extra for OLED.

I tried to order this TV this morning, but something went wrong with the transaction, and I was forced to reenter my payment details. However, the order hasn't appeared in my account nor have I received an email confirmation. I rang up the credit card company, and from their end everything is good.

Is anyone else having any issues ordering from John Lewis today? Normally I get a confirmation email almost immediately, but today, nothing. I'm assuming they're being swamped with orders today because of their clearance...

I think its worth calling customer service for reassurance that all is well.. However usually when there Clearance is on, their website falls over. You may find the confirmation email trickles its way through later on in the afternoon.

Hi there,

I saw your comments on the thread, was obviously sorry to read them and wanted to take the opportunity to clarify.

Of course we’d never intentionally sell opened products as brand new as this would only lead to customer dissatisfaction which is something we work extremely hard to prevent.

So that I may investigate your personal experiences please could you drop me a PM with some more details?

Meanwhile, my apologies once again, and I hope to hear from you soon.

I tried calling them soon after, but the automated system said that they were experiencing a higher than normal volume of calls. I gave up after about 10 minutes of inane muzak, so sent an email, which says they aim to get back to me within 24 hours. I'll probably call up tonight for peace of mind.

Thanks.

EDIT: I just received a text message from John Lewis regarding delivery of my purchase, and I received two emails from them, one the order confirmation, and the other a service agreement. Looks like you were correct, orders are slow to process due to the site being overwhelmed.

I bought a 32" Samsung for the bedroom about 3 years ago.. I filled out the application for the free Multi-room link or whatever promotion it was, never got it. I uploaded my proof of purchase, it was a qualifying model. I don't trust those Samsung promotions at all. Don't bank on getting it.

Badly. Worse colours and a far worse backlight.
At this price do any other TVs come close? Serious question. I was saving for the new Sony 49 which has had great reviews but wondered whether to go for this.

Not been my experience with JL. Their customer service is excellent but I had an LG fail twice in an identical way and they still wouldn't replace it, just insisted on replacing the panel for a third time.

Completely disagree with this their customer service used to the best but in recent times it has gone seriously downhill. I had first had experience of it with my last TV and the whole experience was a nightmare and just looking on trust pilot shows that it is now common place. I went to richer sounds for a similar warrenty and had no such problems.

Really??

Look at Trustpilot scores between JL and RS.
I have the 65 inch version that I bought a few months ago from JL when Curry's had it on offer.

Very good TV and highly recommend (no uniformity or backlight issues here). My only observation worth mentioning is the weird reflections you can get by having a curved screen, it's not worse than normal, just different.
Not had any issues with light bleed on the 55 inch ks9000 I bought a couple of weeks ago. The only fault I can find with it is sometimes it doesn't automatically turn my amp on when I turn the TV on. It normally does, but now and again it doesn't.

I have the 55" version and it's only in the pitch black screens where I can see slight light bleed, I definitely never even see it on standard scenes like you did and you always will get a certain amount of it due to the limitations of the LED technology.

I heard that this issue was isolated to early batches and the issues were resolved in the later releases.
I've got the 65 inch ks9000 recently and its a great TV. Loving the PS4 pro and Netflix, Amazon 4k. No issues with the TV as yet.
Anyone had any issues with the external hdd not recording tv programs? Worked fine for a few weeks and now it's stopped recording ?
