Good tv. Is the frame on this tv the same size all the way round? It seems to be larger on the left and right sides on some photos but the same size on others

e.g.

Hmmm I think Dixons have the wrong photos on their site

Lots of info by people who have bought this TV to help make a choice

avforums.com/for…590

Ring Currys who currently have this for £849.99 and tell them about Dixons price. They will match it and knock a further %10 off

Currently £599

This is a brill price.......
Shame I couldnt wait for 8 months

Is this TV really worth £100 more than ths TV:
Samsung Le40A436T1D Ctv Lcd 4016:9 (avalable from Empire at £485 if you collect)

I realise that it's not 1080 but a 40" TV being watched from less than 3 metres away! surely wouldn't be too much difference.

Is this one better than the sony 3500 40 inch lcd 1080p with 5 years warantee for £635 from costco ?

Not necessarily - if you look, the model numbers are slightly different. There are 556, 557, 558, 559 etc. These are all the same TV, but they come in different frames depending on where you buy them from - the last number denotes the cosmetic difference. Dixons sell the 556, Comet have the 557, Empire Direct have the 559.

comet.co.uk/sho…XXU
empiredirect.co.uk/con…htm

Note, you may get free delivery at Dixons, but this TV is also £599.99 at Comet - and you can order it online and collect in store. Handy if you want a TV this weekend.

Edit - Oh, also instead of SAVE10 you could use the code AW10 for £10 off (£10 off all orders over £348), just in case SAVE10 expires first. Also don't forget Quidco - 3% at Dixons

i personally think the A556 model looks more slick with its straight edges.

So what do you guys recommend? Which company is the cheapest to go for if we use the codes?

Also can someone recommend a cheap "adjustable feet" stand for this tv?

thanks

cracking tv, i bought the 37" a few weeks ago for 699 :x

Good price but I wont recomend Samsung. I have a LE32N TV that went Faulty after 6 months, It took 5 attempts to repair it. I also have a Samsung DVD-SH8 recorder that went faulty after 4 months. My Samsung surround sound has now gone faulty after 1 year. A real shame as I think they have the best designs but after 3 item packing up on me I wont be buying from them again. All bought from Dixons by the way.

Would it make sense to go to PC World and say Dixons is selling the TV for this price? PC World are selling it for ]£849.99 and promise to knock an extra 10% off the difference for any store within 30 miles of a PC World.

Their price match promise is ]here.

I think it is.

@ rhinopaul - i agree...i've just seen loads of issues mentioned on forums which are making me think twice about the series 5 samsung. What kind of experience have people had??

Most samsung lcds i have seen in the high streets tend to look blocky on sd and that is the only thing that has put me off as i really like the design, would this one be less blocky on sd as its a 1080p ?

Unfortunately not - Dixons is only online these days, so there won't be any Dixons stores within 30 miles of any PC World store.

Yes, it is HDMI 1.3. Check out the AV Forums thread for loads more information on this series of TV. Yes, it seems lots of people have had issues with them but supposedly this was only from the first batch of TVs. Hopefully if you order now you'll get a revised one, and not one that's been sat in the warehouse for a few months.

Actually the whole reason I've been looking at Samsung TVs in particular is because my parents have one, not sure what model it is but it's just over a year old, not full HD, just 720p, but they only watch SD stuff on it - still using a VCR bless them :? Yet I was still impressed watching SD Sky on it - excellent picture quality, so I went looking for a Samsung myself. Of course there could be better ones out there - you could go into a store and compare, but then it all depends on how they have them set up. Last time I was in Comet I had a good look at the cables going into all the TVs and they were mostly bog standard aerial cables (40+ year old technology!), so not really doing the TVs justice, but then the odd TV had component cables, yet were showing the same thing, so not a fair comparison at all. Perhaps you're best off acting really serious about buying one and insisting on a full demonstration of several models?

bigintangibles;2357197

Ah -- good point. My mistake. Thanks

Yeah, it's just a shame that Currys, who bought them out, won't price match. However Comet also have it in at the same price and you can get 4% (£24) Quidco if you go through them to reserve it online, then pick it up in store. So you could have it tomorrow for £576

Looks like it cannot handle 24fps which for blu ray though a PS3 and alike is a must. The 6 series is. I'd go with the sony D3500, v3000 or w4000 in ranking order if I were you.

I have a old samsung so I am not bias. I'm getting really tempted with the 3500 and 3000, but I keep thinking to hang on for a W4000 for £800 ish (it's dropped to 900 recently so you never know!)

The Sony, for the reason I listed above. It handles 24fps which is imho def needed for blu ray etc.

Come on guys! pls pls help me here!!!

Pay by Egg Credit Card and get 2.5% back instantly, also try and go through Quidco for 3% back.

dixons.co.uk/mar…ack

Just go through Quidco to Dixons site and then copy and paste your Egg link, I know this method worked when people tried to go through 2 sites to get money back for joining National Lottery site.

Quidco = £17.67
Egg Card = £14.73

Could save an extra £32.40.

1080p/24 capability (PS3) Accepts 1080p/24 video signal, but judders

hdtvtest.co.uk/new…htm

I do not believe it is suppose to, but can 'handle' a signal. Who want to runa risk of their player juddering?

Unless the specs quote 24fps I tend to avoid consideration.
