Not really. Under UK law, the retailer is obliged to at least repair or replace faulty goods during the first 12 months of ownership.
There's nothing stopping you going to the manufacturer, but that can end up being more cumbersome and potentially more expensive.

We're talking about a TV here though. You'd be dealing with the manufacturer, as I did when my Panasonic plasma panel failed after 11 months. They dutifully replaced it at a cost of £1,000. The retailer wasn't involved at all. You'd only be dealing with the retailer if you purchased some sort of extended warranty from them.

It can be that the manufacturer is a quicker option to get a problem sorted, but you have no way of enforcing that at all - if it goes wrong, and they mess you about, (as it often does!) you can't do a thing about it - The RETAILER is the one you go for.
