Fantastic price for a Samsung 40" TV. Voted hot!

Cheers,

Got a feeling these are going to absolutely fly out of stock. I bought the 32" version of this about a year and a half ago and I haven't had a single problem (I got a great price on the 32" version back then too ;-))

if you buy using your egg card...you get 3% instant cashback from them as well...another £17 off makes it £555...someone check my maths as well just in case

theres not much of a difference between the OP and this one....the OP has a built in freeview digital tuner...so if you dont need that cos you're always on sky..
SAMSUNG LE40R83BX 40" HD Ready LCD TV its on at Dixons for only £589...feel free to do the calculations...

Ahh so it is, I did a search but this didn't pop up for me.

Checked that offer and its no longer valid using those discount codes or links so maybe this one will help those who missed it the first time

Yeah I'll leave yours on and expire the older one as the vouchers/links have changed. As mentioned in the message I sent you, it helps if you search for ONE keyword before posting, EG the Model Number, as your results will be more specific. Have a look at the search tips link in my signature

PR25 give £25 discount so another £5 off.

no 1080p I'm afraid, 720p only

Great find OP. I can only use one discount code but still a great price. Just purchased for my bedroom. Thanks

Anything higher than 32" you'd be mad not to get 1080p. I heard the Samsung TVs have bad backlight bleed?

Backlight bleed.....NOPE!, not on mine, i've got two samsung TV's, 32" and a 40" and they are spot on tv's.

Be vary wary of Dixons/Currys with Quidco - Myself and my brother in law both bought a TV over christmas - neither have tracked with Quidco (although Quidco acknowledges that a transaction was made at the correct times?)

i paid £500 for my 26" 13 months ago

i want this tv :'(

my quidco tracked luckily , and its an excellent LCD but has a ridiculously dumb remote sensor (i have same 32"), excellent for hooking up ps3/xbox 360 though, the 'game mode' is a load of **** as it just dims the brightness, anyhow good price for 40", voted hot.

I have the 37" version of this and it is a great set, even the wife likes it and she was completely against me buying one ("we have a TV, why do you need a new one?")

Personally at this price I wouldn't worry about it not being 1080p as it is a great set for the money.

There's a really good guide on how best to set these Samsungs up for various sources you might use here -> avforums.com/for…php?t=513376

I have had this problem too - typical of nasty old DSG.

You can set up an enquiry with quidco, which I have done - but it has not been resolved yet so can't say if I will succeed.

The delivery system Dixons use is weird too. First they send an email with a contact phone number and a Dixons order number. You phone to book the delivery, and are invited to enter an order number - but it's not the number on your email so you need to speak to an operator. You then phone again, the day before, to book a time - in my case between 1:30pm and 5:30pm. The TV turned up at 9:00pm.

The 37' samsung I got is top notch with amazing picture, the sole gripe being that it can suffer slight image blur.

None of the above stops this being a very hot deal.

Also got a query logged-but thanks for the tip!

Can I point out that 3% cashback with Egg, only applies if you link to Dixon's site through the Egg site. This means you cannot go through Quidco and also qualify for Egg cashback. One or the other I'm afraid.
Think this is a great deal though- I might be tempted.

I bought this tv in Late October its a great tv although is shows dust easily due to piano glossy black

Mine tracked within a hours or so via Quidco and so did the freezer I got the other day from Currys

I am watching a HD on tv at mo, its brill

you'd be mad to buy an LCD over 32in...yep i was stunned at how bad the bleed was....thought the standard def. picture and movies looked awful too...but maybe im biased i hate lcd's....i have a largeish sasmsung LCD for the office and its terrible (why do people rave about them) with lovely backlight bleed....unfortunately plasma wasnt an option as they only start at 37in.....
i bought a 42in pionner kuro plasma for the living room...miles better picture quality than any other tv under 46in in size...it may only be 1024x768 but you'd never know it when compared against 1080p sets....in fact my old panasonic 32in 100hz CRT PF01 was better than most LCD's

Great TV I have one myself bought this in june for £670 so this is a steal. All LCD's have some backlight bleed its just a general fault with the current way of backlighting them until OLED becomes the norm anyway

Yes it is 720p but HD stuff such as BluRay will blow ya socks off Apocollipto is a good example, You definately want to spend some good time adjusting all the settings (there are many) to get it perfect

I bought a cooker at Xmas...looked at it on dixons web site...then looked at it again via the egg web site...then eventually looked at it via the quidco link and made a purchase using a code that was posted....got the code applied, egg instant cash back and quidco tracked for me as well....I've also bought from waterstones using egg but going through the quidco link...got quidco and instant cash back as well....I think it may be more to do with the egg card number...you can identify card issuers I believe from their numbers....but even though I've got it now on more than 3 occasions (dixons and waterstone) you cant take it as gospel

i have been keeping a very close eye on dixons site for this tv (actually the model 83) - no freeview also... which WAS £574.99 as off last week, but on friday it was up'd to £589.99

As its for my sister who doesnt play games and just uses it for SD TV, it didnt matter about 1080p

Mine tracked fine, i was gonna get the stand also, but it wont let u go thru with purchase as theres a 28day delay on these... anyway the stand is £50 on ebay brand new so saving £20.

You dont need to use the codes JAN20 or SALE20 as when you go thru quidco, it says YOU MUST USE QC20 which i guess measn QuidCo lol - probably helps it trak

Mine tracked within a few hours, and i bought 1 2daay (before i even saw this post)

i ended up with a 40" tv for £559.99 - quidco plus a stand worth £68-80 for £43 (ex vat - pay by cash )

This is from my Quidco last year

20 Oct 2007 22:54:34 Dixons 699.99 24.50 paid 16 Nov 2007

This was this TV and the stand

I've owned this TV for about a year now and the only thing that lets it down IMO is the sound.

It lags when hooked up to my stereo system via the speaker outputs on the back of the TV and the result is that you hear a really annoying echo as the sounds are out of sync:(

My old Samsung 42" Rear Projection never did this and there doesn't seem to be any way of fixing this in any of the TV's menus:(

Apart from this I cant complain about the TV.

I got this TV in November and have to say that it is first class.

I have to agree that it shows dust but that is solved in 5 seconds by dusting it

Got the 32" version of this for around the same price 5 months or so ago.

Fantastic for my PS3 + 360 Elite, Obviously Non HD Sources like Sky look rubbish, but upgrade to a HD source + it looks sweet

The sound is pretty **** though, and even some cheap amplified speakers system like the ones asda do for £12 will make a huge difference.

Fantastic price!

Tempted to sell my 32" now and buy this.... although i dont have the room for it!

cheap for a reason, youd be stupid to pay out for a large high def tv and not get 1080p, youd only be upgrading again in a few years

go for the le40m87bdx instead of this model

Thanks for the post. Placed my order last night.
4% cashback on my Capital One card for another month...:-D

Had the same problem although all you need to do is turn the volume off on the tv and its fine. The pic quality is fantastic. You dont need 1080p at this size. My dad has the 1080p version and i can see no difference on high def movies.

BLURAY + HD DVD playback are slightly jerky if you look close though, someone told me that this has something to do with the amount of frames per second the tv is capable of displaying.

Banned

cant believe how cheap this TV is....
shame its not 1080p....mind you, price shows that...i guess

its now £609 so i'd rather go for the Samsung PS42Q96HD @ £645.99 on the dixons website.
its slightly bigger at 42 inches and being a plasma it will display SD sources much better.
Unless your rich enough to have sky HD, this is a much more sensible option.

even sky HD is only 1080i so no big deal, many people dont have sky HD or PS3's and just wish to watch standard defination tv but on a big screen, for that a 720p/1080i TV is best as a 1080p screen will struggle.

5% off all TVs over £499 valid until midnight 1st February 2008. Use discount code FIVEOFFTV at checkout.

Brings it down to £579.50 at the checkout.

Add PR25 to get it down to £554.49 before quidco

FIVEOFFTV looks to still be working
