Samsung Series 6 LCD with great specification. Others deals around at about the same price (but not better), but this includes the Freeview DVD recorder that sells for c. £60 new on eBay.

This TV has a darker bezel than the rose-coloured surround on the LE46A656, but otherwise the specification is the same. I went to see both in House of Fraser today, and to be honest preferred the 686, but it's a matter of taste. BTW, in HoF the 656 was £999 and the 686 £1,199 but with a free Blu Ray player.

Freeview DVD Recorder: has HDMI and Progressive Scan and looks to be a decent model.

Seems a bit pricey tbh

Unfortunately the supplied links (below) are for the 656 model, which is totally different from model on offer.

Cant seem to find to many in depth reviews on the 686, can anyone help. Cheers.

Agree, pricey to me too. picked up the 7 series with BDP for £799 from Currys before Christmas.

As I said in the OP!

Also, the OP says that the 686 is the same as the 656, except the bezel!:)

Wow - great price for a 7-series with BDP as well! Was it the LE46A756R? Now £1200 in Currys without the BDP! If so, you got a great deal, and beats this hands down. However, as that deal is no longer available, I think this is still hot on the basis it's the best around at the moment for this model. It may be that we've seen the best deals (like the one you got) come and go, and with the pound so weak, and all our TVs imported, there's less margin around for manufacturers and retailers to play with to get prices lower.

You do realize this is a 46" tv not a 40" right? In which case I really doubt you got the 46A756 for £799.

This is a fantastic deal considering its similarly matched to the Sony w4500 which is selling for over £1200.

Thanks, skidu. Agree solasfoot likely to be talking about the 40" model.

I ordered this and it arrived on Saturday. A fantastic TV - definition on SD is brilliant - far better than my 37" Hanspree (OK, maybe not a good comparison, but this TV is 9" larger and the picture is much better). Blu Ray looks phenominal. Overall, excellent black levels, great colour and depth. Only downside is sound which is a little weedy, but nonetheless acceptable in a smallish room (4m x 5m). I put through a home cinema system anyway. Happy to provide further info if anybody interested.
