voted cold I paid under £60 for this a bit back

for a portable 2.5" drive???? I think not, people STILL getting confused with 3.5" and 2.5" drives-voted hot

Good price for a 2TB ( I am after one myself ) But looking at the 1 star reviews I can see why they have reduced the price on this one so I will give it a miss.

But are there any of these type of drives that do not suffer from dying without warning?

Great drive, but slimline? No, it's fatter than any other.

I got this one a few months back, a pound dearer but much better reviews! amazon.co.uk/Ele…ive

This is a great deal and to the person who sid they bought this a bit back for 60, id love to see where?

i actually own the 1TB M3 Samsung and i can recommend that, as long as you use your hard drives properly, i.e. ejecting them before unplugging them, you will have zero problems

^^ until the connector breaks then you're in trouble

I bought the 1tb version a few months back having seen it on HUKD.

It has been great and has had no problems. The 2tb deal seems like an excellent price. Just can't justify buying it. Thanks OP. Voted hot.

ps ... Wonder if the 1tb is what Ashmac bought?

I think according to the Samsung website this comes with a 3 year warranty.

I've personally got 4 samsung drives and haven't had a problem with any of them, unlike the WD i had to have replaced after 8months.
Samsungs 2years and still going strong. however the offer isnt as good a value, novatech have the 3tb drive for 1p more at £83.99 novatech.co.uk/pro….0/

The drive from Novotech is a 3.5 inch desktop drive so you can't compare the prices as they are 2 completely different drives

Just paid £53.40 @ Dabs via flubit for the 1.5gb version.

currently £59.98 @ Amazon. Flubit took 11% off.

Good find saladisekhar... if anyone wants western digital you can still get it for £79.99 here

John Lewis in Ipswich have a 2TB basics for £70 it's missing the USB cable that's all. Might help someone...

V good price btw thanks OP!

1. This price everywhere and has been much cheaper
2. Mine, like many others, failed after a few months of usage
3. The connector is rubbish

Samsung m3 or Western Digital

Samsung m3 or Western Digital

You get the Samsung and then we can see who's drive fails first as my western digital arrived the other day and it's working nicely. X)

but to be honest for 3.99 I don't know if there is much difference... perhaps one of the techies on here could help.

The problem with these isn't the drive themselves - as far as I know they're the new 9.5mm 2TB drives which would be ideal for the PS4 if they ever release the damn things in a form without a stupid connector - it's the fact that the drive inside has the USB connector directly on the drive's board, rather than a traditional USB -> SATA connector.

This makes the drive smaller, but it's far less flexible, and more susceptible to damage. Plus, if the connection fails, you can't just put the drive into another caddy to get your data back.

hi,
can i disassemble this and use the hard drive as a permanent hdd in laptops?

thanks

I bought the 2.5" 1Tb Seagate portable drive during Christmas to use with my MBP. Although all the data drives on my PC are Samsung 2Tb HDDs, I chose the Seagate over this one here as it's smaller and neater.

Samsung 3TB D3 Station External Hard Drive £77.98

That's a 3.5" drive not a 2.5" drive

I paid £53 bout 15 months ago

Sorry think mine was the 1 tb

My last usb drive was 500gb. It's still going strong after all these years. Does this one need a power cable or 2 x usb to power it properly?

and your point is mat
