Bought one of these about four months ago - still going strong - and useful features such as Samsung Magic doctor. I got one with a thick battery and lasts about 4 hours - a downside is that the battery is not flush with the rest of the netbook and tends to 'dig' into your lap after about an hour. , otherwise great for surfing on the net. The other downside is that when I sometime watch 'ahem' movies it is not smooth - stutters quite a bit.

I couldn't decide on whether to get this or the MSI Wind U135. Both have a pretty much idential spec but ended up getting the MSI for an extra £25 just because it's got a 6 cell battery. I thought it was worth posting this at the same time cos it's a bargain for a netbook with a decent brand and people often miss out as they've been posted many times before but go so quickly.

Lol! I would hope it is still going strong after 4 months!! X)

Maybe best not to watch those kind of 'ahem' movies then.

I bought one a month or so ago, its going strong!

Good price but the Samsung N130 notebook is the worst purchase I have ever made. Cost £230 new and I've spent almost that on repairs. Shocking build quality

We have one 18 months old.

Hard drive just about dead.
Only used for surfing net and uploading photos to facebook.
Also, Win Xp service pack updates rendered the wireless network adapter useless - and we ended up having to buy a USB one.

Great machine - limited life in my experience.

Complete opposite of what i've read / seen. My brother took his travelling 1 year ago and still works fine.

I am under the impression that Samsung are actually one of the best Netbook manufacturers.

In what way do you:

a) feel the HDD is "nearly" broken. Unless it makes some crazy sound, it's more likely to be dodgy software on your machine
b) feel that windows update is the fault of Samsung? You cannot hold Windows update and you lack of PC experience over a good piece of hardware, just because you don't know what you're doing.

Besides, I'd just upgrade the RAM and put on W7 - XP is old stuff now.

a) Hard drive makes crazy whirring sound, and then pc shuts down. It's been diagnosed by repair shop as faulty hard rive. Cost to fix £100.
b) I wasn't blaming Samsung - just making people aware that the wireless adapter adaptor was made redundant by a Win XP update, even after searching for an update to software / patch.

You make a lot of assumptions about my knowledge of PC's.

Just sharing my experience - which has been that the components have not lasted as long as other net books I have had. Seems I am not alone.

And you yourself suggest upgrading the PC - so if you have lots of PC knowledge, you admit the package Samsung has put together need improving! "XP is old stuff now"...so probably IS Samsung's fault their components don't work with the OS they send out with it!!!!! Dig you own grave mate...

Couldn't agree more. After 18months of having the thing and only using it on the odd occasion for menial tasks the thing just capitulated. Wouldn't recommend this guys

lol fair enough, although as a friendly comment - if you are happy to open up such devices, it's pretty easy to replace the HDD yourself, and you can buy one on the likes of ebuyer.com for as little as £30

guess it depends on your technical ability.

and fair enough to your points - but I feel you may have been unlucky - as I think it's general concensus these are much better built than the likes of the acer counterparts!

I also bought one of these Argos refurbs four months ago. Arrrived in mint conditiion and am well pleased with it. Nice and nippy for surfing, emails, Youtube, iplayer, wp and spreadsheets etc. Handles all with ease. Keyboard feels good and unlike some other posters, l think it feels and behaves like a quality product. Something to be aware of, it easily plays standard res movies (downloading free codecs/AVC player helps) but it will struggle with some 720p files. Despite this, i still recommend this deal as good value. However, if you are prepared to wait until the new year, basic old Atom cpu netbook prices are expected to fall as a result of newer, more powerful netbooks and a plethora of cheap tablets coming to market.

Agree with your acer comment.
Yep - gonna open up and replace the hard drive for £50. Will check out ebuyer though, thanks. I wasn't sure at first if it was the motherboard.
I think the hard drive fault is just bad luck - but I'm less inclined to agree with the wireless adapter on these things - having read a lot of forums, and being completely unable to get a workable down load, I find it really odd that they are packaging the same combo of OS and adapter.

Now the Hanspree SN10E1 I bought from Misco for £187 I highly reccomend...
