good price if people still want plasma tvs

£479.95 at Richer Sounds. Not delivered, but with a Richer Sounds local to me, I know who I'd rather buy from.

Good price though, heat + rep.

Why wouldn't people still want plasma TVs? Isn't that like saying if people still want Blu Ray players.

I know, imagine wanting better viewing angles, better contrast and brighter colours. Bunch of idiots aren't they?

Richer Sounds also have them, which is another advantage they have over Dixons, who dream up their TV promotions then fail to supply.

I had a LCD , went to plasma, and i'm not going back, colours and motion handled much much better, in saying that it does have its cons such as image retention, but if your sensible you wouldnt have any such problems

SAME HERE

I had a Sony 42" LCD and replaced it with a Pio 42" and Oh My GOD the difference in colours, and brightness!!

I do however have a 32" Toshiba LCD, which I am happy with.

What's 'image retention' ... and why is that bad plus why if we are sensible we won't have this problem?

image retention is when if a static high contrast image (or if the tv is set to a high contract level) can still remain on the screen as a "ghost image" , after the picture changes / tele is turned off. Its bad because if its left like that for hours on end it can cause whats known as screen burn , which is when the image permantley burns into the screen, if your sensible with your tele in the first 200 hours or so of use you can minimise image retention by lowering contrast, brightness, or ideally as i have, putting the tele into "cinema mode". screen burn, as described above, can happen at any time if the screen is left static for hours on end

I have this TV which I bought from Dixons about 8 months ago. I am very happy with it.

The TV default picture settings are far to bright out of the box and need to be adjusted. I find the sound ok for normal use but it isnt fantastic. Nothing that would disappoint you anyway.

Shame it doesn't do 1080P ... ?

Snap - Sony 40V4000 to LG 42PG6000 - no competition. Better SD, better colours, better motion. No competition IMO. And this Sammy is pretty good too, my mum has it and it's adept at most things you throw at it.

Dixons have these for delivery within 14 days near me, although I would also go with Richer Sounds given the choice.

Worth noting that the guys in our local Richer Sounds were saying that the LG they sell for £20 more is far superior to this Samsung...

I would also agree that for Films and Sport, plasma's are better than the equivalent priced LCD's. (Only get an LCD if you're using for gaming).

A 720p plasma will produce a better picture than a 1080p lcd at the same screen size/cost. Resolution isn't that critical at this price range, other image quality factors come first (mainly contrast).

How good is this offer compared to the toshiba 42'' full high definition LCD?

The answer really lies with you... if your going to watch SD or HD then its Plasma in my view. From more than 7 ft away with a 42" screen full definition makes no difference unless you've got eyes like the proverbial?:whistling:

These LCD v Plasma arguments are even more boring than the PC v MAC arguments!

I have a Samsung plasma which is still superior by a long way for standard TV compared to my friend's LCD (also a Samsung). I wasn't expecting much on the sound quality front with the plasma but I have to say it's absolutely excellent, but again that's compared to an LCD which was just okay. I suppose I have to be realistic too and say that there are so many makes and models it's hard to say which one is better unless you are directly comparing them, but I will say that mine is a couple of years old now and has stood the test of time very well indeed. Bargain, voted hot.

thanks:thumbsup:

Thing is though, there is a difference here. Its a general concensus that a HD ready plasma will give a much finer picture than a large majority of LCDs making this television good value for money.

As stated above the 42PG3000 from LG is a better option, with much better sound for basically the same price.

Plasma V LCD - All the reviews I've read firmly prefer Plasma at over 40" and LCD under 40"
Having had both I agree, I also have this TV and it's brilliant with the Samsung Soundbar attached via HDMI.

I am lost with this 720/1080 malarky!! We watch tele through virginmedia, have a wii and hubby watches footy on it - should i be getting a lcd or plasma? 720 or 1080? (thinking of 37-42inch)
Really considering going for this....

thats kinds silly to say that, ive seen better picture quality on a plasma than a lcd and im not changing my plasma for lcd yet....and what is the alternative to blu ray???? wot are u on holographic dvds already...lol

I have this TV and ts awesome, my 360 and sky+ look fantastic on it, in my opinion Samsung do some of the best LCD/plasma TV's for the money.

They might be to YOU, but, for those of us who are in the market for a new TV they are very informative! :x If you were buying a car wouldn't you be interested in a debate that compared your top two choices?
