I'll have to go to Specsavers and get a prescription set of 3D glasses - bet they are expensive. Can't wear contacts unfortunately. Good price for the TV. Hot from me.

I wonder how long it will be before these TVs are sensibly priced - a year, two years? think i'll be waiting for a price drop unless I win the lottery, that is

By the time you can actually watch something in 3D these will be much cheaper.
Just doesn't make any sense to buy one of these right now.

Are you not missing the point of the site?
If Dixons are selling it without vouchers for 1350 and then taking legitimate vouchers and quidco into it bringing the price down to: £1244.02, is that not a Hot UK Deal?
Currys, PC World, Argos, Comet, etc, etc, etc have this TV on their sites for £1599!

some people are gadget freaks and need to have the latest equipment before anyone esle. My best mates just bought a 65" Panasanic 3D TV for around £3.5k, he only just bought his last Pioneer Plasma 65" for around £3300 just under 12months ago roughly. He's a gadget freak and a "show off" LOL!!

I love my 50" Samsung Plasma for £650 from Very, im happy, don't need 3D untill there are atleast 30+ chanells on there. I don't even think HD have enough channels yet

At this moment in time it's HOT!

If any of guys and gals are Costco members, I saw this in Costco yesterday, I am sure it was cheaper (and of course you get the 5 years unbeatable warranty).

Not voting either way yet, as it would not be fair because I can't remember exactly how much it was in Costco.

Agree with your sentiments, but would really love to see the football in 3D, the demos I have seen have been nothing short of superb. My daughter, who is not really that into football and poo-pooed 3D TV was amazed by the 3D football.

You are right though, I am not going to be paying a premium for 3D TV right now for ONE measly 3D channel.

My (hopefully) Christmas Bonus will be a 3DTV and a decent Onkyo surround system. Hopefully but the Jan sales they will be more reasonably priced!

I looked at 1 in richer sounds at the w/e and 1 set of glasses were £100!!!!

Don't know much about 3d tvs so this maybe a dumb question but will the PS3 3D games work with this?

Has the price gone up? It's £1599 on there now.

yes it already does. there is already one ps3 game that works in 3D. WipEout HD will be 3D soon. The list of 3D ps3 games will increase substantially by the end of this week.

and killzone 3 is coming in 3D next year

Oh, and there's one more thing that we've declined to mention so far. … Oh, and there's one more thing that we've declined to mention so far. Killzone 3 will be one of the first Sony titles to support 3D out of the box, and thanks to a prototype TV using active shutter glasses set up at the event we can report that it looks stupendous – bullets zip out of the screen while particles such as snow and sparks are tangible elements of the game world. It feels like much more than a gimmick as well: peripheral details such as raging seas thrashing the icebergs combine with the way the player's gun seems to hang out of the screen (and indeed people were living up to the age-old clich? and reaching out to touch what wasn't there during the presentations) to create a level of immersion that's truly beyond anything we've seen to date.

Thanks anh_duong. Rep added.
I will probably get one when they are a bit cheaper and more games available, plus I'm not sold on the whole 3d thingy yet.

Its a lovely set and I think the Samsung is much more aesthetically (is that how it is spelt?) pleasing than the Panny, however these Samsung sets need to be viewed pretty much head on for the decent 3d effect wheras the Pannys can be viewed at an angle.

In my own opinion, I will not be buying for the following reasons;

1. too bloody expensive
2. at present still only 1 Blu Ray is 3d and thats a crap kids film
3. having seen 3d movies at the cinema and enjoying the film even though developing a migrane through watching it, i dont want that at home
4. practically NIL content in 3d on TV, watching the match in HD is ok by me (and whilst it does look good in 3d, its mainly only replays from behind / in front rather than the usual side on view)

However I am a gadget freak but not to that extent but for those who hae money to burn then its a great deal. so heat added

cheers, ordered 5.

me too.. i will get a 3D next year too mainly because I already have a large flatscreen and can't quite justify throwing it away yet..

it's not the price that bothers me - since i paid more for my old flatscreen - it's the fact that i can't quite get approval from the other half!! lol.. i am so tempted but missus says no...

edit; forgot to add that the ps3 will be enabled to support 3D blu-ray movies later this year... not sure how they can achieve this but apparently this 3D blu-ray firmware will happen later this year

I think 3D TV is terrible!

I was round my mates house a few months ago watching a liverpool game in 3D and i fell asleep halfway through (as you do)
And when i woke up at the end of the game i realised some git had nicked my wallet!

this is a samsung plasma (not LED) - the plasma sets do not have the problem of off angle viewing which the LED sets have.

therefore this will look good not matter what angle you look at it

I wonder how many people buy a 3DTV in time for the world cup, only to realise that in order to get the 3D experience you need to be centered in front of the TV. Not many living rooms have a seating arrangement that can accomodate that, unless you wall mount it, then you'd need a metal spine to avoid neck injury.

Got a demo on one in PC world last week and I must say I was impressed. This coming from a man who cancelled Sky HD cos he thought it (and still does think it) is a waste of 10 quid a month.

Yes I'll wait too. I remember when Plasma and LCD TV''s first came out. they were similar price. It's only a matter of time until 3D TV is more sensibly priced.

And you don't think £1350 is sensible for a 'latest tech', 50" display?

My experience is:
I paid £1500 for a 40" LCD panel 4 years ago.. That was the cheapest I could get that specific model for and its retail price was £2000 iirc.
2 years ago, I paid £1502 for a 52" LCD panel. Again, that was the cheapest you could buy it for and it had a retail price of around £2200 at the time.

With that in mind, I think £1350 for this TV is very reasonable. Not that I'd buy one for various reasons, including those mentioned in this thread. It's at least one generation too early to buy any 3D TV in my opinion.

With regards to viewing angles, I had my first 3D TV experience over the weekend and from what I saw, you can get a perfectly good 3D experience viewing Samsung TV's at 45 degree angles or so. It's not as good as viewing it on axis but, it wouldn't be.

With regards to the overall 3D effect, I thought it was better implemented on a 40" TV than at either the local multiplex (Avatar, Alice in Wonderland, Up and Final Destination) or IMAX (Alice in Wonderland). I found that as you moved away, the 3D effect got more pronounced but, the issues with motion seemed to increase. This was on an LCD panel though so, I'd not expect the same with a plasma display.

Just my 2 pence.

This is a good deal nonetheless.

Paul

what actual 3d content is there at the minute???

Price has gone back up to £1599

Just as heads up , I have had this TV on order ( not Dixons) for 2 month now : the offical line from Samsung is :

Samsung has informed me that currently the only available stock of the PS50C7000 in the UK is intended to be used for display for retail stores only and is not supposed to be sold on to the consumer until the end of the televisions life.
The lack of availability is due to manufacturing delays which Samsung are encountering. This is down to a new filtering technology called: Filter right Technology that Samsung have developed for this years C7000 Plasma TVs. This technology is taking longer than anticipated to produce products and Samsung hadn't expected such delays.
Samsung have informed us that all retailers who have ordered the PS50C7000 will receive their stocks but in limited quantities.

From my understanding, and the many calls i have made , Samsung are only relesing one pallet size (10 Televisions) into the UK Market every few days, so as you can see it is going to be a scramble for reps to allocate stock to dealers.

So you are in for a long wait ..... hope that helps

Update :
The fresh supply from Samsung (where it is manufactured in Europe) is due to land into the UK today. The next process will be for Samsung to pass this to their delivery department who will arrange with each retailer for this stock to be sent out 1 maybe 2 at the most . so you maybe lucky

The football in 3D really isn't that much to write home about...

you can look on the sky website and find local pubs that have 3D already - I watched a match, and it was clear and bright which was great - however most of a football match is zoomed pretty far out, so you don't really see the benefit of 3D for 95% of the time. When showing replays etc (basically anything zoomed in) it looked great though - and the tennis/boxing all looked very good (they showed previews at half time).

think i'll wait for a price drop - but good deal!

I'd leave 3d tv atm.

Amen.

3-D is the 21st century 8-track.

How come on the Samsung site they can 't tell you how much power this TV uses, when they build it?

It states TBD (to be determined) - sounds like they throw it together and hope for the best

Samsung are terrible at after sales service and before sales service. I ordered this set and waited over a month never arrived - cancelled!

But for all those who think 3D is crap - you need to go get a demo - it is amazing!

Remember that you need HDMI 1.4 cables to support 3D also.
