You obviously don't have a 1080p TV. In a 50' TV or even 40' you can tell the difference at least I know I can. Specially if you use the TV as a PC monitor or for your PS3 or XBOX 360.

You'll tell the difference on a 50" set, which this is.

I dont think Samsung plasmas are very good, my dad & FIL have recent 42" ones and sound is terrible and picture isnt very good, alot of fizzing on white pictures, unless it just affects that model they have

Also this tv has only hdmi 1.2 ports so a no go for surround sound enthusiasts and those wanting clearest possible picture through HDMI

any reason why this company is giving away stuff. Usually when a company starts doing this, is when it's about to go bust. have people used their credits and have they delivered.

The Samsung series 4 & 5 plasmas aren't great tbh, but 6 & 7 are supposed to be great.

Just hope nothing goes wrong with the order.

Their customer service is TERRIBLE!

their deals were always great, it's just that we are often let down with their affiliate couriers......well, in my own experience at least.....

Banned

I ordered this earlier, with the credit and quidco comes to about £500..... A real bargain, 1080p or not.... You could keep it for a year then sell it on fleebay and probably make a profit....

sleth;4856937

When it does you'll be waiting for the 8 or 9 series 65"

Nah, but anything earlier has bad reviews/feedback. Samsung really upped their game after the 5-series

if you buy a 50" tv now you'll end up wanting a 1080p tv down the line, yer if you put a standard tv source or DVD into this tv you will not notice a difference between this and a 1080p set but put a 1080i source like a Sky HD box or a 1080p source like a blu ray player or a PS3/Xbox 360 and the tv or the player will have to scale the data to fit the tv losing detail and causing other issues depending on how good the scaler is.

Save up the extra and be future proof (for a while!).

1080p is where all the gold in the world is.
its the best thing that everyone NEEDS to have.
cos their mate told them so.

not really.

the ONLY thing utilising that technology is gonna be blu ray.
if you dont have blu ray, arent thinking of getting one, this is a cracking TV.

the majority of the customers I talk to about TVs previously used to say they didnt want a plasma cos they'd heard you have to get the gas refilled in them.
and other such urban myths.

in the past few months, this has changed to "I want one that does the 1080p"
yet they admit to having no blu ray or PS3, no Sky HD (Virgin HD is a waste of time) and arent going to be using the TV as a computer monitor at higher resolutions.

but 1080p is the greatest thing ever invented.

We've had a few people now starting to ask for 100hz and even 200hz tvs, so i think this is gonna be the next "me mate says thats the thing i have to have and he knows about tvs".

it seems that people have now accepted that plasma tvs werent the work of Satan and need to have gas refills. tho i always used to say to customers "think carefully about what you just asked...will this TV need to be refilled with gas at some point? really? when you think about it, doesnt it sound ridiculous?"

now 1080p is THE buzzword alongside the awesome 5 year warranty. the fact that in the last 5 years, TVs have changed so dramatically, makes no difference to them.
in 5 years it'll be 2014. do you really think John Lewis or anyone else will be able to obtain parts to fix your 2008/9 LCD or plasma? do you really think they will be able to swop it for something of the same spec?
there won't BE anything of the same spec by 2014.
you'll be lucky to get some money off a new TV vouchers based on a pro rata of how old the TV is compared to the original price paid.
look at the rear projection TVs from a few years back. gone. done.

Can anyone tell me if this is better than the Samsung pebble37", which is what I currantly have, but I want a 50" now!

Undecided on this one, been looking for a 50" tv and the pay over 3 months and £120 credit definitley makes it tempting. i'm feeling the bad vibes this model though might give it a miss.

Just to add I use my tv as a pc monitor for my media centre so this prob may not be the right tv,

Been looking for something BIG to replace my ageing 32" Techwood budget HD tv i got from Woolies 2 years ago. God i hate this site, always causes me to have an uncontrollable urge to spend money!!

Joking BTW. Nice find op , just ordered

Blu Ray uses 1080p, xbox doesn't, and not everybody will use their TV as a monitor

Good post especially about the Plasma myth. They have been around for donkey's years and it seems a shame that they will soon be ditched in favour of the vastly inferior LCD standard.

Anyway, the deal is good but I would always go for a Panasonic plasma and you might start to notice 1080 on a 50 inch set if you are less than 8ft away (that's pretty close, people).

You can get the 50 inch version for 'only' another £120! Better than the Samsung IMHO but both are better than a cheap LCD.

On the fence I've got it sat in the basket at the final stage quidco'd up counting down to 12 O'clock not sure what to do. Theres some good things said about it ]here and I cant find any bad things about it which is a good sign. just waiting for something to push me over the edge and commit.

Of the 2 the samsung is the better.

As for saying you wont tell the difference between 720/1080i and 1080p I'm here to tell you you will unless you have a couple of cheap nasty sets with ***** picture quality. I have 6 LCD TVs 2 Toshiba 1080p one 42" and the other 47" sets and a 1080i Panasonic and you stick the PC or 360 through them and you can tell the difference you always hear that ***** about not seeing the difference from people that don't have 1080p sets i think its what they tell themselves to sleep at night.

This samsung TV is one to leave that's why its cheap the picture quality is rubbish and to be fair i wouldn't pay £350 its great to have a massive TV but id rather have my mates come round and say that the picture is cracking than come round and say is your aerial knacked and when you tell them no you got it cheap and paid £650 and them turning round and telling you that you where robbed its crap. Put the other £200 to it and get a decent one or pay around the same or a little less and get one of the great 42" panny's if you must have plasma or save the extra £600 and get the best plasmas money can buy the pioneer which have halved in price recently.

I don't, I brought my TV on picture quality, I have an xbox, but no HD DVD, Sky HD, don't use my PC through my monitor, so no 1080p source, as for putting my foot in my mouth, a quote from your article:

"Predictably, it seems there are no plans to release games that run in 1080p. Instead, the software update will allow DVD movies to be scaled up to 1080p and will also handle HD DVD releases"

So no 1080p games, how can you possibly tell the difference on a 1080p set!!!

Sounds like you're trying a bit too hard to justify your choices.

I have a Samsung 42 plasma and the PQ through Sky+ HD and the PS3 is amazing. It is also better than the picture I have seen trough a Samsung 1080p LCD too - still, horses for courses
