i dont want to start a 720 v 1080p but I really wouldn't buy a screen this large without 1080p, unless you are lucky enough to live in a mansion !

I just bought a 50" 720p Panasonic, TX-P50X10 for under £600 and don't see any scan lines. In fact I'm astounded at just how good it is even on SD and sitting just 2.5m away from the set.

why?
unless you're watching Blu rays, then you're not watching in 1080p

this sort of comment proves how little people know about TV resolution and whats broadcast in what size.
marketing hype is what people believe.
its 1080p, it must be the best.....

yes it is, but limited stock in richer sounds, most towns and cities dont always have a richer sound, argos is pretty much everywhere.

this is exactly why I bought 1080p, and you really have no idea what I do or don't know - so maybe you should ask first, before making stupid comments that I would normally expect to come from a child.

another one

dont waste your money on this tat.. wait for LED's to become cheaper

u dont buy a 50" tv to watch SD tv and movies,
u buy it for HD tv and bluray hidef gaming.

be stupid to buy a tv this big without 1080p,on a 32" its stupid to buy 1080p,but 50" come on,u need it.

ps3,xbox 360,upscaling systems all output 1080p and do it bloody well,

1 other thing is its 100htz, 3d requires over this(about 120),the reason alot of sub 120hz tvs are dropping in price, because 3d is the next thing and coming very very very soon, all ready here in a way.
i would get 200hz tv minimum, future proof yourself for at least a few years

I'd want 1080p at this size too, for blu-rays and for future proofing.

To get the best out of a TV over its full life, you should really be thinking about 1080p. Yes at the moment 1080p may only be blu-ray and PS3 games, but by goodness you are missing out not watching it in full res. You're paying for the blu-ray disc, what's the point in only seeing half the data on it?

Plus you'll never know what you will be watching 10 years from now...

u not be watching this tv in 10 years lol,it be dead power boards are a known fault in sammys lol, best of it samsung wont admit there is a fault within the powerboard resistor

50X10 for

I like how everyone makes out 1080 is hardly any different from 720. when actually 720 is even nearer to SD (576) than it is to 1080. Why is going from 576 to 720 considered a huge leap in quality but 720 to 1080 is not? Fact is, for a huge screen like this, that extra picture information does make a difference. Granted most HD might be 720 at the moment, but that will change over time. We already have bluerays giving you full 1080p, thats reason enough to get it IMO.

In the next 3 (and quite possibly 5+) years, no television company in the world will be able to broadcast at 1080p....

My view in the 720/1080 debate is that unless you watch a hell of a lot of blu-rays or are a big (full HD) gamer, then it isn't worth the extra to get a 1080p set.

You do know why LEDs are backlighting changes right?

LED are used to overcome bleeding of the light on normal LCD screens. This deal is a Plasma, which don't suffer from LCD bleeding. Dont fall for the marketing hype, plasmas have been doing what LED LCDs have just started doing.

IMO you shouldn't buy non-1080p of this size, it doesnt make sense. HD will become available for the masses within a few years, and 1080p is needed for 50".

Rather 1080 too...seems like 50" 720 screens are going at this rate anyway and when looking at 1080 need to add at least another £100-200..
