seems a good price for 50"

Cant seem to get the TV to add to basket... to much demand apparently code works with other Tvs though, good spot:thumbsup:

Can someone confirm please that it will not be possible to receive HD signals via aerial, but
only via a tuning box when everything goes over to HD? If this is correct, any TV with built in Freeview will be as useless as a non HD TV, as a HD Freeview box or similar will be needed.

TV is currently unavailable on the Currys, PC World and Dixons websites.

very tempted

Correct, you need a sky dish and a freesat tuner or box. Not available through an aerial

If it's any help I live in the Manchester area which they've announced will be the first to transmit Freeview HD starting in January 2010.

Sadly it will be a while before anyone can comment on the reception because as yet there are no decoder boxes available, so no-one can actually watch those transmissions. :whistling:

I bought a similar tv to this a few months ago when they were on offer at Bennetts and we're very pleased with it.

Yep, no HD source = no HD picture!

What, everything is switching over to HD making all other freeview useless? Is that right?

go for neoPDP instead

I think alexthekid is confusing FreeSAT (Satellite = dish) with FreeVIEW (terrestrial= aeriel).

Freesat HD and the decoders are already available but programming is limited unless you opt for Sky.

Freeview HD is starting 'roll-out' in January but the decoders have yet to be released.

All require extra boxes to be attached to the tv.

No , not at all.
The standard definition freeview channels will carry on as normal.
At roughly the same time as the analogue channels are turned off , there will be a couple of freeview HD channels launched.

No tv on sale now will be able to receive the HD Freeview broadcasts - you will need a separate freeview HD receiver (or a freesat receiver , or a sky HD receiver , or.......)

Thanks for that Dr

]This deal mentions having an MPEG4 (HD) tuner built-in, that's not for HD freeview then?

ooh best not buy it then until they make one that is compatible with things that might get invented in the future

hot

After Watching the BBC CLICK programme online I have delayed a purchase of a New TV.

Those with a built in freesat will not be able to get Freesat HD without a decoder box.

So I am waiting for integrated Freeview HD TV sets to come on the market.

Correct. However, it's worth noting that there is no plan to "turn off" the SD digital signal...

just ordered a panny 46" and according to the advert you can receive freesat hd with just a dish
also the tele itself has freesat hd plastered all over it
you need to tell them that they are all wrong

Anyone?

tv out of stock, been holding off for a good deal and with that voucher would have grabbed one.

Yes, I would have got one too if it was in stock

Also, can anyone confirm that this has an analog VGA or dvi input? On the samsung site it says it does ( samsung.com/bal…c=F ) but on the currys site it says it doesn't.

wont add to basket, out of stock, will have to grab a panny then

Loads in leicester store today too! Not sure why they aren't allowing online purchases as loads instore then!

all gone in my area

damn thought this was seriously hot at pc world for £599!

they were selling like hot cakes on boxing day...

50" ultra slim plasma for £600 mark is scorching hot in my opinon!

None in stock round Newcastle either, I was actually going to order it after much deliberation!

UKSeagull: A friend of mine has a 40" Sony Bravia which I noticed also has an MPEG4 capable tuner, after doing more research I found that for freeview HD in the UK you need a DVB-T2 capable tuner, so I'm reasonably certain that this TV also won't be able to recieve freeview HD using it's inbuilt tuner.

Which is better, plasma or LCD?

Freesat via dish, freeview via aerial, totally different thing.

Plasma if you want to heat the room at the same time.

So has anyone managed to order one of these?

This set is Freeview not Freesat, yawn. TV's with Freesat built in aren't necessarily able to decode Freesat HD.
