4K sets been around for years now and there is very little 4K content around unless you subscribe and then its not a lot. So god knows how long before 8K content becomes available. Total waste of money at the moment

I saw this model in John Lewis it gave me a headache, it is very hard on the eyes to watch.
Whoever is thinking about it, do it! This is the end 2018 model and was recently replaced with the Q950r. The new model is £5k and has better viewing angles but worse contrast. All else is more or less the same. So get this one IMHO.
I recently got it and am super pleased. Plus it is future proofed with 4k@120hz and 8k@60hz so will get best out of rumoured new 2020 consoles.

I thought the One Connect box was 2.0 and not 2.1? Have they replaced it with a 2.1 version?

There are plenty of 4k contents. Besides, 8K TV isn't really about 8K content, it makes 4K content way better. Watching a 4K on an 8K TV make any 4K TV look pretty old.
Another benefits is you can sit much closer to it.
I always hear the same crap "no point to buy the 8k because there are no contents in 8k".
In reality I am still waiting for proper 4k contents. I am sick watching the same high quality 4k clips over and over again and very sick to watch upscaled movies with an usually crap hdr (also badly overpriced) which very often is a degradation to the original blurays ( apart for few exceptions).
I mostly use my 4k TV’s for pc use and soon (1 or 2 years at most) I will jump on the 8k only for that.

No upgrade yet. They say on their website that they will give a complimentary upgrade to HDMI 2.1 (search "2.1" on the Samsung product page). Customer support also confirm they are working in it still. As long as you can find that text on the Richer Sounds website, you are fine. If they don't do it, you can push for a refund or upgraded model via mis-selling.
I think the cut off for when to make a fuss about this is when the new consoles are announced, nothing else support 8k yet really.... apart from super high end PCs.

Lol. I guess the design is a bit like Marmite, I like it. FYI - there are 2 positions for the feet, at the edges (shown above) and more central, so it can sit on most stands.

Very perplexed at these "There's no 4K content" comments.
There's an absolute stack of 4K content on Netflix, iTunes, Amazon and UHD.

Plus BBC iPlayer does trial 4k HLG broadcasts, including Wimbledon recently.
I seem to remember something about 4K upscaling perfectly to 8K compared to Full HD to 4K. Something about pixel ratios. Not sure why I mentioned that as no one asked. Just popped into my head.

they are called 4k contents, like saying I like the blond or I like the brunette. Well, what it does count is the quality not the colour of the hair
For people who have access to Perks at Work (via work), you can enjoy this offer direct through Samsung - I got the 65" for £1,799

Wut?
Samsung Direct had this on for £1799 last week. Congratulations to all those who managed to by it via their Employment perk portals!

I own the Q965FN and the pic quality the Q900R has is breath-taking. To those saying 8K content is not available and it's a waste can I ask what exactly is this a waste of? It's cheaper than some 4K TVs at the moment, it has upscaling to 8K and if and when 8K content is readily available you will be ready for it.

Might as well say any speed a vehicle provides over 70mph is a waste as well ...
Let’s be honest. By the time 8k becomes mainstream and useful enough, even these sets will have been superseded.

checked my work portal and we get the same deal, already bought the C9
Argh I'm so torn, the 1799 deal through work is also available and I really want to buy this. But I know it's still expensive! I feel at 1799 not even black Friday will bring it down to this. Should I go for it on interest free finance?

Went for it! I'll kick off if I don't get the hdmi 2.1 upgrade though as advertised as that was partly the reason to have a future proof TV.

Good call, welcome to the club, you won't regret it. Keep an eye on the AVForums owners thread for an update on when the upgrade is rolling out.

No just 1 year but I have never needed to use a 5 yr warranty before. It's the risk I take to get it cheaper. Ill add it onto a domestic and general policy or something similar once that's up.

Essentially 4k to 8k upscaling is easy because if needed they just turn 4 pixels into one.

I just got a qoute from domestic and general and worked out for the same saving I made with the TV by going with Samsung EPP direct, I'd get an extra 1 and 3/4 years of warranty (6.76 years warranty in total) to match the RS price.

Saved £450 by going with EPP compared to RS.
Quote is £6.50 a month for warranty with D and G hypothetically after the initial 1 yr with Samsung ends.
It will then take 69 months to spend that £450 saving on extra warranty.

So I'm still very happy, although your comment did provoke some thoughts on my end.

One caveat though, the qoute was based on a TV up to 2k in value because I only spent 1799 in total and I hope this isn't a problem if say the TV breaks in 18 months and this model is still hovering around 2.5k at retail prices.
