Can anyone comment on these? I haven't taken the plunge yet!

Looks like it's gone, unless they have other listings.

That was quick!
Ha, I was just in the middle of writing you a little review since I have almost the same machine (I have the i3 CPU). Oh well...
I've got the R730 so essentially same model range but 17.3inch screen bigger hard drive processor etc.

Comments on things that are the same.
For what it's worth I really like it, very reliable, not one crash.
Nice keyboard. Really good keyboard short cuts although I would have liked a volume wheel on the computer rather than just a short cut as late last night I went on Lancome website and music started full blast it woke the other half as I wasted time looking for a wheel to scroll to reduce it. Really annoying when websites do that or have videos that start without warning.
Speakers are crap although there is software to adjust
It's not balanced in weight so heavier at the back but it's a light laptop overall.
My two usb ports on the right side are very tight so I try to avoid using them but that could just my my laptop.
What annoys me is the touchpad is to the left of the keyboard which when on the knee is annoying and I will be ensuring my next laptop doesn't do this however this is because I have a number pad this one with the smaller screen might not but worth checking.
Buttons on the touchpad make a loud click noise.
Battery life is good and has remained good.
Screen is the same as above and is great
I don't have a TV with HDMI so haven't tried that but is the TV out on this HDMI?
Wasn't lots of bloatware to uninstalled when I first booted it up.
My DVD/CD writer is a bit noisy but it's hardly used so not a problem for me.

RAM is very cheap so if you want to upgrade to 8gb 2 x 4gb will cost you about £30

Review still welcome! I bought it in the end...
Ok, you asked for it! Flies in the face of some of what carltonbp says...

Like I say, I have the same model but with an i3 CPU. It's a competent machine.

Bad points:

My screen has a dead pixel. Not in a particularly noticeable place, but it's there so you might want to check. Samsung wouldn't replace it under warranty since it's only one pixel and it's not in the middle of the screen. YMMV.

Samsung support isn't all that great, although they did agree to replace the trackpad on my machine. However, they left me with a scratch on the lid which they denied doing, and took a while to fix it. IMO, the phone support is poor unless you like arguing with (the support centre I dealt with was in Egypt). YMMV.

There is a lot of bloatware. My machine came with no OS installation discs - everything was on a partition, which is no good if your hard disk fails. There is no easy way to create a clean OS image from the included recovery software. In general it might be ok for a lay user but if you are a techie who likes control of your OS then it sucks. I ended up working out how to create a set of discs (including a USB key) to reset factory settings in the event of an HDD failure, but it's fiddly. I wish they'd just include the CD and be done with it.

Battery life is poor.
I got a DVD for OS system recovery? Also came with installed Samsung system backup software which I don't use as I back up to an external hard drive.

Yeah I think it depends on the model. A relative of mine bought an R519 and got an OS DVD, so I'm not sure what their criteria is.

Oh, and note that the laptop mentioned in the title only comes with 32bit OS so there's no point in upgrading RAM on that machine since the system can't address more than about 3.5GB. Mine runs just fine with 3GB.
They should give you a os disk, that's really really bad and seems daft. Surely you should have gotten one? My old toshiba laptop HD went and I had the disk, amazingly it worked perfectly but without such a disk you'll be screwed.

I was a bit annoyed when I realised the hard drive was partitioned. 320gb and 245gb, plus 20gb Samsung set aside for something that I did look up and have forgotten what, probably for backup/restore using their software. I would have liked to decide this. Also annnoying that although it's a 640gb you only really get 590gb, I know how it works but I bet plenty of people don't, how about manufacturers putting likely actual as well on their blurb.

Laptops and PC's don't come with discs anymore, they come with the ability to burn your own
