There's also the Curry's offer of £50 off any laptop when trading in ANY old laptop. Means you could get this for £288 if you include 3% Quidco.

Samsung laptops are superb in all fairness. This is a corker and will be quite quick. Battery life in real situation will be 1-2 hours at best.

Or you could go for this one, 17" for £399 with free bulldog virus protection. Recieved mine yesterday and it looks good so far! Although it has gone up £20 since my order still seems a good deal.

my R519s battery lasts about 2.5 hours in the real world ,can be extended a bit more with power saving options at max but thats not really practical.dont know if this uses the same battery but probably something similar.

Can you supply more information on this, I have a non working samsung, would they accept that, I assume its in store only?

No problems, so long as the CODEC used is H264, MPEG2 or VC-1 (which are the 3 types used by Blu Ray films). The X4500 graphics contains decoders for these CODECs. For other CODECs, the CPU would be used to handle the decoding and it will be powerful enough for current CODECs that are not decoded by the X4500 graphics. That is not to say that the CPU will support more demanding CODECs that may become available in future though.

Here's the link

Must power up, have an optical drive, and no keyboard or screen damage. I've got 2 in that condition.. Going to see if they accept them without hard drives.

cheers for this, my little sister was looking for a new LAppy, this may be just the one!

Available in store and on reserve and collect items only.

Decent starter laptop and a good price after 5% discount and 2% Quidco.

Heat Added.

CJ

Whare can you add the 5% for store collect?

It's not a core 2 duo but it IS dual core
Intel Pentium T4300
This means battery life won't be exactly stellar
Bluetooth dongle from poundland for a mini one
Firewire? anyone still use that? For this money it's splendid value.

Samsung laptops are excellent quality, and this is a well-specced machine. Also, it might not be Core 2 Duo but it does have a dual-core processor. Heat added.

Heat added! Fantastic deal! I am also looking for the 5% discount code on store collect. Just found a old laptop with Win 98 that works, so another £50 off! Yippe!
Edited by: "desisaver" 26th Aug 2010

as soon as payday hits im purchasing this! Any guesses on how long this deal might last for?

Can you have the 5% off on store collect, 3% Quidco, and trade in a laptop for £50 off? If so how do you do it?!

It Says the screen has "LED back lighting". Is this as amazing as it sounds? Is it better than an HP HD screen?

I've just bought this from staples but not opened it yet

staples.co.uk/tec…ity

Which is better?

AFAIK you can't get the 5% off R&C. Quidco yep, £50 off yep, 5% off? Nope.

Yeah I'm stuck trying to add the 5% code for a reserve and collect as I have an old laptop to trade in.

Looks like it's going to have to be just the 3% Quidco & £50 off when I go and collect after reserving it then!

extremely tempted!! my laptop is dying a death at the mo

People still use mp3 and divx despite there being better codecs, so it's unlikely that the current HD standards will be replaced any time soon...

Anyone done the laptop trade in, do they really check the old laptop out? Might just pop in store and ask.

Not sure how that is related to HD video. Complex CODECs are being developed all the time. We develop them but they are not for mainstream usage. There are no standard CODEC for current HD standards (your words) so replacing them is a moot point. However there are CODECs to decode HD video - subtle difference and some CPUs CANNOT cope with decoding these CODECs quick enough for smooth video. The point I was making is that this particular CPU should not suffer from this issue. The question that was asked concerned HD video so I'm not sure why MP3 has been brought into the discussion. DivX certainly is relevant but the DivX CODEC can be complex enough to cause problems on some CPUs if HD video is used, never mind future, more complex CODECs!

Just to confirm, I selected home delivery and on the second last step where you confirm your order just before the payment screen there is the option to enter a promotional codes. I used the sales5 and it did work fine but I want to reserve and collect so I can trade in my old laptop.

Nevermind, still a great deal at £299 just a shame they are not like Comet who let you apply online vouchers to R&C orders.

The asus is more about better battery life over absolute performance. If you're going to be plugged in then I'd go for the samsung. If you're intending on NOT being plugged in then i'd go for the asus

was looking at a hp similar spec for £380, so very tempting is this samsung..

Pretty hot especially in view of the £50 offer for any old working laptop: think I've got a pentium 2 which would qualify...:-)

Just had a play with oine in currys.very nice laptop! Does it support wireless N? Some spec lists are saying b/g only. Sorry if this is a bit of a stupid question

reserve one, then wait for the phone call, tell them theres a discount code online and ask them to match it instore or you'll cancel the reservation and buy online.

most stores will begrudgingly honour it, especially if you're buying other things the sales staff are targeted on:-antivirus (any), office, bag, mobile broadband (Three 5gb 30 day at £15 a month is £10 for your first month) and the monthly warranty service
