I got one of these a couple of weeks ago when they were £70 and a cracking little drive it is, filled it up with AVI files pluged it into my USB port on my DVD player and can play all my files directly from the drive without any need for an external power supply. My only gripe is why do we have to lose 69gb of the drive when it has been formatted? ( Fat 32 by the way ) a few years ago a 69gb drive was a whopper!

Mostly because when they sell this as 1TB, they mean 1,000,000,000,000 bytes instead of the base-2 definition where 1TiB is 1,099,511,627,776 bytes.

1TB is only 931GiB (in Si, how your computer reads it), exactly 69GiB less than the base-10 stated figure.

In short: it's a con but it's been this way for decades for backing storage.

Good deal. Here's an alternative:

I've only ever heard good things about Western Digital. I think this looks a bit nicer too. It doesn't come with a pouch though.

in b4 3.5'' drives are cheaper

So is it 'black' or a 'luxurious colour' or is black now a luxurious colour? Actually what is a luxurious colour? What's the difference between black and midnight black? What's a 'premium material''? God I hate that marketing ****, so many words and so little said, what at turn off.

I'm looking at my one right now and I have to say it is a truly luxurious colour - a stunning midnight black made from the premiumist of all the materials. So it does what it says on the box

Does anyone know what the model of the HDD inside is?

You should also be able to see this when the drive is connected and you right click to see the properties. Would be very nice!

Cheers

The drive is custom built with an integrated USB controller. Its not a standard SATA drive that you can take out and use else where.

Received mine today, its a bit chubby, but its very neat looking.
