Great deal. Cost me £52 a couple of weeks ago.

Not a very "Limited edition" as this deal has been hanging around for many months. Though it's intersting to see how the price has been dropping. Maybe in a few more months I'll pick one up, though I'd prefer it without the preloaded film.

I agree pete_I, I'd much rather have without the MJ branding and film but thought I'd bite the bullet since I've been waiting for a decent portable 500GB HDD to be cheaper than £40, even if it is bling colour :P

£38.99... Is that it?

I bought 6 of these from Dabs. They are horribly golden, but light, and quite small. A good price for 500gb.

Is the film permanently recorded onto the hard disc rendering it unremovable?

It should be removable by just deleting it, it all else fails you can format the hard-drive to wipe to whole hard drive

It was said in jest. I can't see what difference it makes whether one prefers the drive with a film compared to one without a film. Just delete it. Some funny people around.

I think it's the bling case that's stopping the sale of this, not the movie on the drive. It looks like something that belongs on Mr T's neck!

I can't in all good taste order this until it's £30!

It does come with a tight leather case, you can leave it in that and you don't notice the golden tackiness too much ;o)

...are we still talking about the drive or the actual Michael Jackson now ?

Thanks OP - ordered...

Can the drive be removed from the case and used, or is it soldered to a mini usb connection like some WD external drives?

amazon or dabs/bt-shop? I know where I would rather buy.

This drive is NOT suitable for a laptop computer with SATA interface, otherwise good deal (put a sticker on Michael).

Can you offer any further info please?

Oh dear as I thought it's a usb port soldered directly to the drive making it non standard, why do they do this. No wonder they can't shift them.

No it's got a usb port soldered onto it instead of a Serial ATA interface, check the previous hotukdeals for the drive, it's listed many times. I think the terminator version of the drive was the same as well. WD have also done this with many of their portable drives.

nice. bought!

the film can be deleted, however apparently police can still find it on there...

I'm sure a drop of spray paint would render it a bit more palatable - don't forget to mask off the USB port!

waiting until it's two for a monkey

no mate, MJ is in a tight wooden case, this HDD comes in a tight leather case.
Hope that helps clear up any confusion

Is it compatible with PS3 ???????

They do it because it saves money and increases reliability compared with using connectors, and it might save space too. And as only about 0.00001% of people who buy these things will even consider gutting them and using the drives in something else, then it will have no perceptible affect on their saleability.

Bought, as it will be used just to back up my two external 250gig hard drives I dont much morry about its gaudy looks. I just hope that the Samsung drives are reliable.

Whats the best option for a back up device that wont go **** up on you when you least expect it?

If this drops to £30 I'll get one.

They haven't shifted them all because of the gaudy colour and the image on them!

I'd disagree with that, when it works out much cheaper buying this drive and stripping out the 2.5" drive than buying an internal 2.5" 500 gig drive, I would have done it if the drive was standard. It was the same at Pc World recently it was much cheaper for me to buy a 1TB external drive than an internal one and throw away the external case.

Cool, I got one with £55 2 months ago

Great Find....scorching hot

Can we remove this HDD and put in another caddie? This caddie is horrible.

aww, that's a shame. At that price it would have been worth swapping this HD out into a new caddy. I hate the look of it (and the cheap faux leather case!)

Bought this last week at £45, anyone know if i can get refund on the difference in price
