Samsung S9 cheaper in the states by £224 via Samsung US store - currently £515

This "deal" is only relevant to those that want the new Samsung S9 and are travelling to the states in the near future. The pre order price is $719 currently £515. So I would recommend picking it up out there and saving yourself £224. It will also have the snapdragon 845 and not the Samsung chip.

The standard prices in the states does not include sales tax, why do so many people fail to realise this?

I'll pick one up when I head to LA next week, then pop to New York to get a couple, maybe texts next for a few and finish in albeqerque for a few. Does anyone want something while I'm out?

Ridiculous, honestly. This country is so bad lol.
How much are tickets to the state?
Do bear in mind the US frequencies are different than the UK, so your device might work but not optimally. US devices also tend to use different processors, I know my Note 8 and theirs have different ones.

Can get a return for under £250. I know quite a few deals pop up on here for flights out that way.

I'm visiting Orlando in a couple of weeks and in the market for a new phone but was looking at the Pixel XL and Mate 10 Pro. Plus is coming in at £599. Tempting.

Sales tax in Florida is 6% so that brings an S9 Plus at £600gbp to roughly £636. Still a bargain.

You're correct and this does vary by state. However, I cant imagine it adding more than £60max to the total sale. Still way cheaper than buying over here

You're saying that like it's a good thing. The Samsung Exynos version is vastly improved this year while Snapdragon hasn't improved as much. You'll simply be paying for a slower phone by getting the US version.

Plus don't forget about sales tax. It'll be closer to $775 not $719. They don't include tax on their prices, it gets added at checkout.

Yes it has improved but in my opinion it had ground to make up. We shall see when the benchmarks come out but looking at the specs I think it will be a close one.

Yeah, that's in Florida. I admit to only scraping through with a grade C in geography at school and I've been drunk many times since, but I'm pretty sure the UK is not in Florida. Smaller numbers are sold here, we have higher tax, etc. etc.

I would like to see you milking a bull, actually thinking about it now maybe I wouldn't!
No doubt will have a region lock so make sure you pop a USA sim card and make a 5 min call before you head home.

You may be right, if sales tax was the only thing to consider.

What if there's a problem with the phone? How will the US warranty work here in the UK?
You are liable to pay vat when coming back. If you fail to declare it you may be in for a large fine if discovered. And the proof will be in your cc statement for the custom office to see.

Dont be a muppet and bring the box back or be waving it around then! Kinda defeats the purpose of buying abroad cheaper (with or without sales tax - I think some states don't charge?) and then coming back and declaring just to pay HMRC.

They've got enough of our money as it is! If you actually calculate how much most goods are abroad and then add 20% VAT on it but look at the actual RRP we are being charged - we are paying more than 20% on top ! Always at least another £10-£20 more.

I picked up my Note 8 from the Muddled East - launch day prices were £600 whilst here it was £750-800.

Registered with Samsung UK and no issues - now I can't say they accepted registration for the sake of it and if I have an issue then they'll turn around and say screw you but my phone is registered in the UK.

I was making a point about the sales tax, following your statement that it doesn't include it and that people fail to realise this. So I used Florida as an example, which is in the USA to illustrate it is STILL cheaper with it.

"The standard prices in the states does not include sales tax, why do so many people fail to realise this?

So I added it on to make a point that it was still cheaper than the UK. To simplify.

S9 Plus - £600 add on 6% sales tax (Florida as an example) = roughtly £636. That is still cheaper than UK price.

Your attitude btw, equals your grade in geography. I was merely making a point, not insulting you from the get go.
FWIW Samsung are absolute d bags when it comes to repairing one of their phones bought in another country. Refused to repair mine and told me to fly back to where it was sold for repair...

...and, as I also suggested, sales tax isn't really the only thing to consider in the whole equation.

So many people are quick to moan about 'rip-off Britain' without fully understanding the bigger picture.

If we had the same amount of buyers in the UK as in the US, then we'd obviously get it at a relative price.

Consider the simple statistic that there are at least 5 times more people living in the USA vs the UK and it's fairly easy to work out that they sell at least 5 times more phones.

I got a much higher grade in maths, can you tell?

I'm sorry for sounding rude, but are you having two conversations in your head? I replied to your comment where you talked about sales tax and that alone, there was no hint of other things to consider.

Now you're taking about rip off Britain and the bigger picture. Seriously? Digress much? Wow. Just wow.
You clearly missed the "etc. etc." part, as well as my reply to another comment.
