I bought this TV from Comet at this price 3 weeks ago and love it. I managed to get 10% so paid £810 but thats only because i bought it from a store that opened the day i bought the TV deal.

Good luck buying a HDMI cable from Currys for £2

Bought this tv from bestbuy last month to replace my 3 years old samsung plasma. But the image retention was really bad on this tv.And the black is not really dark enough compare to my old samsung. So sent it back for a refund.

Thinking of stepping into the world of 3D but have some basic questions....

What are rechargeable glasses, dont you just wear those paper style ones you used to get free attached to magazines?

If your watching a 3D blu ray movie, is the whole movie in 3D or just select scenes?

I presume if your watching regular TV channels or movies not in 3D then they are viewable as normal?

I heard of TVs on the horizon that mean you dont need to wear the glasses to view 3D, not sure if these are going to be on Comets shelf soon?

Thanks

Rich

this TV is excellent, it does require correct setup of levels which are available on av forums, where breakin images are also available.
after a few weeks at these levels you will be blown away by the picture.
3D is excellent and in my opinion as good as the panasonic plasmas
Coupled with this is anynet function asnd ability to plug in a usb hard drive allowing numerous formats including MKV to be streamed from computer or played direct from USB.
You cannot go wrong for the money on this one..

If you're being serious I will attempt to answer them.

1. No you dont wear paper ones, the 3D technology has come along way. If you've ever been to see a 3D movie in cinema lately, using the polarized glasses you'll know what to expect. No more red/cyan colours, just clear, coloured image :). They're rechargable because essentially the left and right "eye" on the glasses closes alternatively quickly to give the illusion of 3D far more easy on the eyes than the old stuff!

2. The 3D will add depth to the whole movie (things that are far away, LOOK far away and stand out) but as for popping out the screen, that will depend on the movie and is usually selected scenes.

3. Yes non 3D content is viewed as normal, however, most 3D tv's has 2D-3D conversion at the touch of a button, in which it generates a 3D image, it actually works surprisingly well

4. That technology is currently new and hasnt even been fully tested yet, yes it is in development but we wont see it for a long time.

Hope that answers your questions

Thanks! Yes they were serious questions as Ive been completely off radar regarding 3D, although I did get dragged to a panto last week that had some 3D scenes when the whole audience had to put glasses on!

So your saying a regular 2D programme viewed on a 3D tv, would become partly 3D?
If you watch a 3D film without the glasses on, does it become like a blurred image, until you put the glasses back on?

I suppose I need to go into a store and try it!

1. No you have the option for that. If you simply wanted to view normal 2D content you would just watch as normal. However if you wanted to watch that 2D content in converted 3D, you simply press the button on the remote and pop your glasses on. From my experience the 2D-3D doesnt really add popping out of the screen effects, just merely alot more depth to the image. Then to go back to normal 2D viewing, press the button on remote again and pop glasses off :).

2. Yes, if you were watching 3D content without glasses on it would be blurry :).

As you said, you would be best off going to a reputable store and asking to try out the 3D. They usually have some demo running to show off different aspects (action films, sports etc;) well worth checking it out :).

Yep been following this tv for months hoping the price would drop. So far zilch. So I got one before the VAT increase. My personal opinion is that the VAT increase won't make much difference but shops are using it as a marketing tool. Let's not forget that the value and price of all fast moving consumer goods like this tv will eventually drop to very little in a few years. Regardless of which way VAT goes.

Yes it will A nice surprising feature I found out a day before buying this TV.

Was interested in this and the 6900/7000, but I've read so many comments/reviews stating they are prone to retention and that has really put me off.

I tend to watch a lot of sports and news sites with tickers in the background when I'm working (work from home often or in evening when not much is on). But worse still the family has a habit of leaving Sky on pause and forgetting about it. Pity as according to the reviews they are excellent performers, let alone at sub £1k.

The issue I have now is at the bottom end of the market plasma's appear to be the better option for 3D.

Madness that these companies turn their back on the web retail business at the busiest time of the year. They must have a lot of faith in their bricks and mortar stores.

In the end I tried to pick up the telly in a local store, but they wouldn't let me lie it flat in my medium sized car. They insisted I needed a van or 4X4 to keep it upright. So I paid for delivery for the sake of convenience.

I got this package for the same price from Comet yesterday, took it home lying down in the back of my car (just! don't bother if you drive a small hatch, the box is HUGE) and couldn't be happier, minor image retention issues which apparently get better with time, but can't fault it besides that. Followed the guide on AVForums to enable 24p cinema smooth and now blu rays look fantastic through the PS3. Been playing Motorstorm 3D on the PS3 and Black Ops on the Xbox and both look amazing. I even got a free 3rd pair of glasses as the Comet staff didn't seem to be entirely sure what it was they were selling, which was an added bonus.

You lucky bloke. The conversation with the staff was going that way with regard to a third pair of glasses but one of the staff was in the know. So denied.

On the PS3 do you have to buy the 3d pack to play Wipeout in 3d? Thing is I already own Pain, Wipeout and Super Stardust HD and I feel pretty hard done by paying for them again just for 3d...also is Motorstorm just a patch for 3d?

As far as I'm aware, the 3D version of Motorstorm is completely standalone. I'm not entirely sure about Wipeout, I couldn't actually find the 3D version anywhere in the PS store, I only saw a 3/4 pack of 3D games which included Wipeout. Have heard tumbler 3d is a good one for demoing 3d so may give that a go next.

I can confirm that if you already own the games in the 3d pack like Pain, Wipeout and Stardust, then there is no need to buy them again in the pack. They upgrade for free and the PS3 recognises if you have a 3d telly.

Just been into PC world and was told the deal had ended. No more Shrek 3D either. Managed to get the last one though at £898 but only one pair of extra glasses, kept telling me the second pair came with the TV. I was told 14 day delivery as the TV's where sold out but could cancel order so if better deal comes up thats what I'll do.

Am I the only one that gets the impression retailers are attempting to use our pavlovian conditioning, coupled with the impending "scary" VAT increase to dupe us into buying at quite average price levels?

However, despite feeling this way, I am struggling to resist oO
