Probably about a lot better if you have about £200 more to spend.

Got one of these for 110 only a week old. Customer did t know how to use it. Their loss, lovely piece of kit.

Good bat life about 7 hours, light, no fan.

Great wee machine

Define "good"?

This device is configured for use with a lightweight o/s; if you're thinking it will take a windows o/s I don't fancy your chances on having a "good" experience with it

Heated; decent deal for what it is.

Nice. I heard samsung aren't making chrome books anymore. Heat added

A lightweight Linux UI would be fine enough.

Chromebooks are great *because* of ChromeOS, not in spite of it. I primarily use a Linux system (Arch/KDE) and did install Crouton and Ubuntu the day I got my Acer C720. I got the 32GB model so I would have space to install ubuntu alongside it. Pretty soon though I just wiped it all again and left it as solely a stock ChromeOS system. You can do a lot more with web apps than you probably think and the incoming compatibility with Android apps should fill in most other holes. They *are* brilliant machines... you're just thinking about them wrong.

8% cashback possible with some Halifax/Lloyds debit cards.

wrong CPU, and doesn't have the 30G++ hard drive needed to install the massively bloated Windows7 install.

This is not the device you're looking for...

As long as it's not the awful win 8 or 8.1... Win7 would perfect though

Can I play football manager on this?...

Indeed their future strategy is move away from computers. It's a shame really because they have made some very well built laptop/netbook computers in my opinion.

Great price, great machines if you tend only to browse the Web.

Way, way too slow. The 1st gen of this Samsung Chromebooks absolutely chugs. Poor dim screen as well.

If you're going to get a Chromebook get a Haswell Celeron based one. The Acer 720 is £10 more and significantly better.

COLD.

Nope! This Series 3 Chromebook has to be the worst one currently for sale. It has a really slow ARM-based processor, TN LCD - meaning poor viewing angles, flimsy build quality, not to mention the fact that Samsung are going to stop selling Chromebooks and laptops in Europe.

Suppliers are pushing these haggard old Chromebooks out the door as fast as possible and it’s possible to pick up a real bargain. The Series 3 is slow, the screen is poor, and the build quality is only slightly better than a paper aeroplane... The following website has a very handy list of every Chromebook currently for sale in the UK along with specs and Octane scores.

Acer C720 for a tenner more is FAR better value.

Im waiting until you can use android apps on chromeOS, until that day ill carry on using my rMBP.

avoid all arm Chromebooks as they are sluggish as all hell

You already can, I posted up the links in another very recent Chromebook deal. There's about 4 official apps released in the Chrome Web store and the rest can be hacked on to the Chromebook used Archon extension, including Skype.

Not quite true, they are leaving the European market but continuing to sell laptops elsewhere.

hardly touch my windows laptop now.
Chromebooks are the future.
Love the simplicity & speed.

Where are they please?

I recently had an opportunity to test this alongside the HP 14 Chromebook. The HP was better as expected with what I believe is a better package (4GM ram, Celeron 2955U processor) but not by as much as I thought it would be.

If you're likely to have multiple apps running and 10 internet tabs open then the Samsung does suffer delays which are most visible when scrolling pages.

Having said that, just light internet and app users would find the Samsung works just fine.

Personally, I would recommend 4GB ram, even on a Chromebook but as mentioned, for light users who don't intend to increase their Chromebook usage over the next few years, the Samsung at this price is very competitive.

"Samsung is one of those, saying this week that it was ceasing laptop sales in Europe “for now.” = This includes Windows and Cjtomebooks. Taken from gigaom.com/201…pe/

can windows 7 be installed on this ?

Amazon, PC World, Tesco; take your pick.

Who's been voting this deal hot?

Clearly people with no brains.

This Samsung is POOR value for a Chromebook - there are MUCH better ones out there (eg. Acer 720) for the same money or less.

No.

If you're after a super cheap Windows laptop, you may be interested in HPs forthcoming Stream laptop.

I am in a good position to judge as my wife owns this Samsung 3, and I own the C720.

Overall I would say the C720 is the better laptop. As its has an intel CPU Linux is easy to install, and you have access to a wider variety of applications.

I dual boot Bodhi Linux with Chrome, and for odd occasion that I need windows (eg gaming) I use and XP in virtual box mode. All works well. You cant do this on the Samsung as linux options and programs are limited by ARM CPU.

Hardware wise the C720 is a faster laptop. Though if your using it just to browse the internet the Samsung is still perfectly good. The keyboard though on the Samsung is nicer.

Both are plasticy by the Samsung stands the test of time better. My wife got hers just over a year ago and it still looks like the day she bought it (with lots of use). The C720 (which I got 6 months ago) is more prone the scratches and the palm rests are looking worn already (light use).

The choice of what you want depends on your use. Speed and being able to install linux important go for C720, if aesthetics are important go for the Samsung.

This particular Samsung is crap by Chromebook standards.

Ancient, slow, underpowered CPU, dim, washed out screen etc. There are mobile phones that have more powerful CPUs than this.

This was their first generation of Chromebooks released in 2011.

Samsung released a new line of their Chromebooks (Chromebook 2, faux leather etc) this year for good reason - the Chromebook being sold here is ancient and slow, has a poor screen, connectivity issues etc.

I should not have praised this laptop, my C720 has just died
