I like the idea of this, building a home security and management system with modules. £200 was a bit expensive, £150 seems a bit more reasonable.
I've been looking long and hard at different solutions, and I think the reason smartthings is the best option for home automation is that it's designed to work with other technologies, so you don't have to continue to buy Samsung sensors or devices, I'm getting some hue lighting for Christmas, and will be adding other kit as I go along... It keeps your options flexible.. Will be picking mine up today as I think the £50 off this week make it a really good deal
reviews of the android app are pretty dire.
Will reply here with what it's like on iPhone, although I want to set it up so everything is automated rather than using an app if I can help it.. Worst case will just send it back if it's that dire :-)
Good deal. Although I think the Bundles offer even more value. Pay another £79 (£228.99) and get the HD camera (worth well over £100) and another sensor of your choice (worth £30).
lol, I was just about to post about the camera offer as it's not on their website. Got a friend who works there and he sent me a pic of the offer.
Good spot feel free to post a separate offer :-) the camera does appear to have some issues looking on Amazon and is dependant on connection to cloud services, when I start looking at cameras I'll be looking for something that runs locally only for video..
Well in case anyone cares.. iPhone app seems to be fine, also additional plugins are great with a really good user base, currently just setting up integration with plex so that the lights dim when plex starts playing a film! Although be cautioned that this is advanced setup on the hub, but some simple to quite complex tasks can be setup in the app alone!
You can use an addon web site called smart tiles to create a more user-friendly dashboard. This will let you monitor power use, temperature, presence sensors and the likes all in in a read-only mode so it has WAF (Wife acceptance factor) and even for smaller ones in you're house.

You know this thread is 11 months old
The deal's on again though.
Well if anyone wants some advice or help, I've had one for about a year, but be warned, SmartThings is still very much a platform under development.. I think it's great, but it's not a reliable platform as it stands..

Most of my house runs on it, but I code my own stuff which helps.. but more than happy to give any advice!
