Good deal.

I think these will be around £50 mark towards end of year.

Cheaper here, I know this is before postage which is usually 4.95-6.95 but if you add a few other super specials you can write that off.

But with Aria you need to submit a separate order if you want to buy more than one.

Is Aria one of the companies with free postage via AV Forums?

SCAN 3-5 year warranty

They should all have the same warranty, that being 3 years as the warranties aren't normally handled by the e-tailer, but by a separate company

Nope.

OEM disks are purchased differently to RETAIL ones.

OEM are for system builders and only have a 1 year warranty.

Retail ones have full 3 year warranty.

i bought one of these from scan and it had the sata connector snapped off, scan wouldn't replace/refund it, samsung wouldn't replace it. i ended up getting visa to get the money back from scan. nice warranty that is.

ebuyer all the way - i've returned hard disks to them and they've picked them up via courier no problems, no cost, no hassle.

i'd prefer a good 1 year warranty to a useless 5 year warranty. apart from which in 5 years these will not be worth the the shipping costs!

Some people wouldn't need to be pointed in the direction of blatant sarcasm with a bloody great smilie.

Hey, for anyone that knows, i have a few questions:

1) I have 2 ide hard drives at the moment, and if i bought this, would i be able use this alongside them? i.e make this primary or just a storage drive
2) if i had both a sata and ide's, would i really benefit from the speeds of the new sata, if i dont have a another sata to transfer from/to
3) about RAID 0 and 1, are they only applicable if i have 2 sata drives? Because im under the impression that with one its just plug and play like is the case with the ide's (minus jumpers).
4) whats the difference between oem versions ive seem of this and the normal ones? Whats better?
5)How long is the manufacturers warranty with this and does any other website offer longer? I wouldnt mind paying more for a longer warranty on this, because ive heard allot of hit and miss stories about this product.

I would be greatful if someone could answer these so that i can decide whether to purchase this or not. Thanks.

Also,

I live 2 mins from Scan, and there warranty services are shocking. If they can get out of something believe me they will!!

First you get serious by saying a smiley isn't necessary, then you say have a laugh?

I've been through your previous posts, most are superfluous and spam. I use this website for deals (hence the name, HotUKDeals if you hadnt noticed), and there are plenty of other websites for funny and witty stories and remarks; which brings me to another point - most of your posts are neither funny nor witty.

In response to Adnan:

1) Depends on your motherboard. There are a fair few that support IDE and SATA connectors, though not all. I'd check your motherboard details in it's manual or online.
2) Yes, for loading mainly. IIRC, Sata is 150mb/s (Sata II, like this if your mobo can support it, is 300mb/s), whereas IDE is 133 at most.
3) SATA is plug and play when its in the proper port, however I don't think you can RAID them with IDE without the appropriate controller.
4) OEM come without cables or fancy boxes, and usually with a shorter warranty. So it all depends on OEM vs. Normal price and how much you want to spend.
5) OEM is usually a year, though depending on the website you may get 3 years. I suggest checking with the retailer.

Overall, this is a good buy if you like the retailer. 8p per GB is not to be sniffed at! The last HDD I bought (admittedly it was a Raptor, which offered a 25% plate speed increase at the time) was £1/gb.

The problem is that this is the internet and it is filled with ignorant people, especially when it comes to hardware. It's impossible to tell if someone is at least of reasonable intelligence and are just mucking around or the former.

you'll need to check the sill of your door the distance from the floor to confirm if it will work. If its less, this might be incompatible and you might need the thinner 2.5" or even a 1.8" version.

I would, with all my IT experience ;), advice to check compatibility first.

Hi. Thank you for replying.

1) my motherboard supports both ide and sata. I have the msi 7185 socket 939. My question was whether i could have a mix or is it one way ot the other, i.e ide or sata or any combination.
2)Loading? Do you mean startup of computer etc, if i had it as primary and loaded my os on it? I know my motherboard has sata but i dont know if this is I or II and i cant find info online either for it.
3)Can i just have both and use both without configuring RAID, i just need extra space to be honest and SATA is cheaper then IDE
4)Do you know the cheapest retail price of this HDD? Or the difference. Is this retail: scan.co.uk/Pro…884
5) Im mostly concerned about losin my data, and this seems to be a contemporary issue with this brand which is why im thinking the longer the warranty the better. Ebuyer would be a better retailer to buy it from i think, as their products sell quite well, the chances of getting a drive from a faulty batch would be reduced....right? lol

Sorry for the anooying questions, but its better asking them now then when the product arrives.

1) it'll work fine
2) IDE drives never saturated the bus speeds and neither do SATA drives so you won't really see much of a slowdown in that sense.
3) don't think about mixing drives in a RAID. SATA+SATA or IDE+IDE only
4) No difference
5) Most components fail within the first year so I wouldn't be too worried about warranty.

1) Yes you can mix drives. It's no problem. You just can't RAID them
2) SATA 2 is backwards compatible so no need to worry about that.
3) If you don't want to RAID then you don't need to RAID the drives
4) ]froogle.co.uk is your friend
5) Warranty won't help if your data goes. If the hard drive fails it fails. Do a backup and you won't lose it. Samsung will only replace the drive, they won't recover your data. The best thing you can do is make sure the drive is cool and is well insulated from vibration if that's possible with your case.

2) SATA 2 is backwards compatible so no need to worry about that.

A lot of SATA deives are at 3.0gb/s by default (sata II). If you have an older motherbord that only has SATA 1 (1.5gb/s) , you will need to change the jumper settings on the hard-drive to change it to 1.5gb/s before your system can see it. (ive known lots of people to get caught out by this, and think that their new drive is faulty!)
