Samsung will have to drop the price on this model to compete:
Google's Pixel C with keyboard is about the same price and Apple's new iPad is cheaper too (although you do get the pen on the S3)

Samsung really have lost the plot with their pricing....

Seems like they are following Apple's lead on pricing, first on phones and now on Tabs... ...hope these burst into flames as well, it'll serve the greedy **** right...nonsense price point!

Premium product = premium pricing - what do people expect? I think it looks like a pretty nice alternative to an iPad for someone looking to step out of the Apple ecosystem into something that feels just as nice.

+1 for Google too: the Pixel might be an amazing device but I can't justify spending that much on a(ny) phone, hopefully Motorola/OnePlus/Nokia or another manufacturer will keep a Nexus-alike spirit alive and deliver decent specs AND SOFTWARE UPDATES for good specs at the mid-level price point.

Well, hopefully the Chinese companies such as Xiaomi will venture into the 'premium' tablet area and burst the Samsung/Apple bubble...if they can produce excellent phones for a fraction of the price from the 'big boys' then maybe their prices will fall... ...unfortunately this may take some time as the Apple 'disciples' would go into meltdown outside the all inclusive world of IOS! X)

I understand that comparing this to the iPad Pro plus Pencil this is quite the bargain. However, Apple users are used to the insane pricing. The rest of us... not so much.

Just wait a few months. This won't sustain its original price for long.

It's impressive what they can churn out for the money but you don't get the same package. Support and residual value being 2 things that I care about a lot. Got to go for a premium device to get that .. Samsung, Apple

I'm just waiting for One Plus to make a tablet. There is certainly a gap in the market that they could fill.

john lewis have them on display today
looks nice but see what happens to the price in the coming months

I can't understand Samsung's pricing of the S3 when a similar S2 is selling for around half the price. When to most users the pen is just a gimmick s why not sell it w/o the case and pen for £400, particularly when after 2 years Samsung will stop issuing software updates from my own past experience.

ok, here the thing,it's simply not premium enough to be £600.at least with iPad it hold it's value for a very long time so can be sold for a decent price when it's time to upgrade, good luck selling the samsung for a decent price after year or 2.

Indeed. Samsung are their own worst enemy! They release so many devices of size and quality, that in the 1/2 years time that you look to re-sell this device, they will have released 5 or 6 devices of similar spec and size. Whereas Apple very rarely budge, so their stuff being sold second hand has value.

Residuals are better than they used to be but still not at iPad levels, although those are eroding fast too as it's not hard to get an iPad for significantly below RRP these days which cannot be said for most of their products.

Above all of this Android _still_ blows on a tablet, but that's go nothing to do with the heat of a deal :-)
