Thanks go to Karen70 who originally posted this when it was 10 months free.

PhoneBoxDirect have the ultra slim Samsung U600 phone with 12 months free on a 12 month contract (after cashback) on Vodafone. For £0 (after cashback), you get the Samsung U600, 12 months free line rental (after which you can cancel), 500 x-net minutes every month and 250 text messages each month too.

The Samsung U600 (Ultra Edition 10.9) exudes elegance and modern style. It's an ultra-slim slider, encased entirely in metal, providing a clean and pure image. The U600 comes equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera and boasts a large 2.2 inch TFT display. It also has a multimedia player, web browser, email client, assorted messaging enhancements, 60MB internal memory and microSD expandable memory.

This offer works by cashback which you claim from PhoneBoxDirect at specified intervals. If you wish you can purchase via QuidCo.com who will give you £30 in extra cashback, meaning a PROFIT of £30 on the whole thing!! Remember to cancel the insurance if you don't want it as it's quite expensive. As usual, send claims recorded/special delivery as soon as you get the bill and you'll be fine. Please not that PhoneBoxDirect charge £2.50 for the initial credit-check, a charge many phone retailers now employ.

great find ducky how is phonebox direct with cashbacks havent used them before.

Had a few problems with them, but i think that's the case with all chequeback companies.

So, if you get this phone deal, sell the handset on ebay, and then wait for the cashback, how likely are you to get it back. I've never done this before, but when people say "problems" do they mean they had to ask a few times and got the money back eventually, or just got plain cut out of getting any money back?

i would do this but herd to many bad thinga about them anyone had all cashback from them here? cheers

Thanks for this ducky

PBD have improved cashback T&C's in line with CNM.

If anyone has done this before.

Am I able to get the handset then put my own sim card in it?

Then still claim the cashback?

To claim the cashback you need to send in your Vodafone bills so there's not much point in using your own SIM as Vodafone will still charge you.

Also, be aware that they can't currently port your existing number to Vodafone

Voda porting cat be done yet. Welcome to HUKD JayTay

Bah for porting, I've had my number for 12 years.

Looks like these are going for £200+ on ebay.

Nice profit if you risk the cashback!

5 claims in 12 months adds up on postage :giggle:

Special Delivery is from £4.30 so thats at least £21.50 in total.

Then add the follow up calls every time soon adds up

5 claims in 12 months is too much like hard work for me personally.

Recorded delivery has always done the trick for me and that only costs £1.04 – E2save/CPW//OneStop/Mobileshop also only recommend ‘recorded’ and not ‘Special’ – Not sure about phonebox – I have heard many bad things about Phonebox/Cool new/Mobile Outlet, Do you think they can wriggle their way out of paying if you only send by recorded? What other benefit can you have with special?

Thanks

If you do your bit, cashback claims simply cant go wrong @ CoolNewMobile. I have had 5/5 successful claims from CNM and the very fact I was successful on 5 different occasions prove that they pay cashback. However, lately CNM is taking about 2 months to process claims. I always sent claims by Recorded Delivery.

Recorded delivery is suffieient. You only want to prove they received it... special delivery doesn't do much more in this case.

As long as you do your bit the retailers DO pay up... but if you don't do you bit perfectly they'll not pay you... stay organised and you'll be fine.

Can anyone tell me what this phone is like?

Has samsung finally let us use mp3 tones for sms?

Does it have recent recipients for sms like SE?

One thing which annoys me about samsung is that when you write a text message, you have to go through so many presses. Anyone knows whether theyve sorted this?

Used to have a D600, loved it til I tried SE software! WOuld love to have this phone though.

TIA

i tried to order one of these a couple of days ago and just had an email to say i'd failed the credit check. I am gobsmacked! there's absolutely no reason why i should. Is this just an excuse to turn people away? Its certainly put me off...but now i cancelled my old phone with O2 i need another good deal....anyone?

My partner got one of these cash back deals last year. From her experience it is a right messing about to claim the cash back as you have to keep all previous bills to send off and you have to send them on time. In my opinion its not worth the hassle because one month you are bound to miss the deadline.

I have to disagree about it not being worth the hassle. Being organised and 3 visits to the post office a year is well worth it for the money you can save. I'm in the middle of my 3rd & 4th cashback deals and thus far I've received all the money i'm due.

One point I would make about recorded delivery though; on every single occasion that I have sent a claim (to e2save & carphone warehouse), the trace on the post office website shows up as 'not yet delivered' (or words to that effect). This happens even after the claim has been paid! I have been told that this is because the claims are sent to a PO box and there is obviously no-one there to sign. This shouldn't happen but does. This explaination came from the PO themselves. Doesn't give you much confidence in recorded delivery.

See you have already missed 2 claims:whistling:

5 trips to the PO needed in 12 months here :giggle:

Actually my 2 completed e2save contracts only required 3 cashback claims. And my current Carphone Warehouse contract also only requires 3 claims. My latest e2save contract is for 4 claims (6,8,10 & 12 months).

Thanks duckmagicuk2 for the post. Ordered one and voted hot!

Very tempted by this - disillusioned with orange now

How does the cashback work? You just bundle certain bills and send them off to the company, then they send you a cheque? sounds simple enough in principle

Thats pretty much it yeah. You normally have to make a few phone-calls to hurry them up, but providing you send off everything recorded, and keep copies you will be fine.

I've ordered one anyway my contract is 3 is up next month so it's a perfect deal for me. Thanks to the o.p.

Thanks Ducky!
I received the phone on Friday. Its slim and very nice looking. I thought it would be branded with Vodafone software but its generic and works with other GSM networks.
I am very happy with the deal and hope that all the 5 cashbacks will be awarded by PBD.
BTW there was no mention of the 12 months cashback in the enclosed single page paper. Please did others received any detail of the deal in paperwork?
Thanks

Thanks arfster and ducky for your replies and help!

I ordered the phone on Thursday and havent heard from them yet. Wondering they still doing the credit check.... :-(

I tried calling customer care and finally hung the phone after being kept 39 minutes on hold... MAn, thats gonna make a huge tab on my phone bill.

I had a problem with the credit check also - basically my address is "confusing" (common problem ordering things for me). Sounds like their systems don't handle well anything that isn't totally automated.

My quidco didnt track.
Did anyone elses track ok?

Tracked no problem. Did you use a separate browser and clear cookies beforehand?
