Just bought one of these, the best price I have seen for a while plus a 5 Year Warranty from Richer Sounds. Also available at John Lewis:

johnlewis.com/sam…=73

Its not 3D, but is smart with wifi including loads of apps (main reason for purchase):

Netflix
iPlayer
ITV Player
4OD
Five player
Amazon Player / Lovefilm
Plex

Only thing missing for me is Now TV but small price to pay for the above. Screen quality is great. Also has a DUAL FREEVIEW HD Tuner with PVR facility (required USB HDD) Very good deal IMHO!

EDIT: Potentially £289 with VIP Newsletter signup!

love the fact that richer sounds do a free five year guarantee

Think the 40inch version is 349 from electrical123 eBay shop, obviously no 5yr warranty tho

Is the warranty any good? Also if you find cheaper elsewhere they will not price match as they come out with the warranty spill so tech it's isn't free

can you record onto USB stick or just HDD?

Correct no smart on the 5000 or wifi, plus no swivel stand

I brought last week from JL at £319, on Sat emailed them currys price of £299 and the gave me a refund of £20 for each of the 3 tv's I had ordered plus bonus of a decent 5 year warranty

I'd personally recommend the f5500. We have the f5000 for the kids room and smearing is visible (motion blur) on fast moving Xbox games. When I've tried the f5500 I couldn't notice motion blur.

I bought this TV a month ago from richersounds and I'm very happy with it I got it for 290 with the VIP £10 off voucher you get in the emails. Plex works great and so does everything else to be honest I have used a USB pen drive and a portable hard drive to record with no problems the only thing worth mentioning is to record you put the recording drive into the webcam USB slot it doesn't mention that in the instructions and it also won't play movies etc with that port but the other port does which is perfect really unless you plan on using the webcam and recording. Overall I would definitely recommend it. The only thing it's missing in my opinion is a flixster app but most people won't need that.

I got the UE32F4500 from JL last week, and they price-matched PRC Direct no problem, despite PRC charging £180 for the 5 year warranty!

how big is the hard drive?

The TV does'nt have a hard drive built in, you connect your own usb memory stick/ portable hard drive to the
tv via the usb ports.

OP says it has "DUAL FREEVIEW HD Tuner with PVR facility". If that's true it would be able to record one channel while watching another - very useful! However, I can't find any mention of this in the technical specifications at the vendor's site.

Is it proper dual tuner or just two channels on the same mutex (as is the case with the 4500, I believe)

I have no idea sorry. I imagine the latter. All I have tested in recording a HD channel an watching a second channel

Thanks a lot - that's dealbreaker for me. Think I'll get one.

Despite what samsung says, this TV is only 50Hz.

Is it worth going for 100Hz series 6 Samsung instead of this 5 series? What is motion like on this?

Original Poster

Things don't looks overly realistic like on some tv's so don't imagine the motion rate is that high, although not sure how to check.

I went for a 6 series Samsung instread of this 5 series as it has many extra features not available on the 32f5500 and was only £90 more. Here are some of the differerences.

1. The Series 5 sets have Clear Panel Technology while the Series 6 sets have Ultra Clear Panel Technology
2. The Series 6 sets have better contrast compared to Series 5 sets
3. Series 6 models have Movie Plus Technology while Series 5 models doesn’t
4. The Series 6 models have 4 HDMI ports while Series 5 models have 3
5. The speakers on the Series 6 models are down-firing while those on the Series 5 are on the side
6. The series 6 models have 100Hz refresh while Series 5 are 50hz.

In addition to the above, the model I got is also 3D capable. Downside is I only get 1year guarantee. I still think it was worth it for £90 more.

can anyone tell me if you can set to record to the usb for a programme in the tv list/guide.

e.g. can you set it to record various programmes at different times like a normal PVR ?

thanks

a) yes, if your pendrive is fast enough, else you'll need an external/portable HD.

b) yes, but I don't think it does series link.

thanks for the reply. series link would be helpful.
