not smart tv either.....

Quality TV. Great range of smart services and plays videos from USB storage and over dlna without problem.

Cant bring myself to ever use Currys again.

Appalling after sales service

If I don't need Smart Features or anything like that and just needing it purely for a standard TV - is there any reason to go for this over the 5000? or is there any difference picture wise? I will be using a soundbar so sound is not a problem..(thinking to save £60 using Very as above)

true, but you'll probably need the help of 4 others to carry it to the skip.

Hardly surprising it's come down in price, nobody would pay £599 for a 39" TV, I paid £450 for a 42" 2013 LG Smart LED TV.

You dont get the 10% off sale items

This was reduced to the same price by curry's last October, I ordered one to collect but turned out they had no stock left, tried to get one elsewhere but this seems to be a curry's exclusive - so the price may not be as good as it appears.

39 inch led just doesn't seem ryt 0_o

My 32" widescreen Sony CRT died today. Had great fun carrying that 62kg monster to the car and then unloading it at the tip!

im very tempted, been after a 37" but Samsung don't do them anymore, only really see LG at this point. Trying to talk myself out of the 40" 7000 series. Will be used mainly for gaming, anyone got any experience of gaming on this TV?

Seems a good price for this

Not amazing but good hot

One thing worth considering is that the F5000 series has no HDMI auto-switching or HDMI-CEC. In other words, you have to manually change input source all the time, when changing between TV / DVD etc. Not a major problem, but annoying for some.

Yeah that's not an issue - it'll be on the same input as it's for a HTPC - with regards to picture quality - there's no difference between 5000 and 5500?

Will John Lewis price match?

John Lewis just price-matched a Samsung 32" for me, with PRCdirect.co.uk, who were £30 cheaper than JL.

According to Pricerunner, PRC are the cheapest place on the web for the model I wanted, but charge extra for the 5 year guarantee. JL don't seem to care about that, and the simple fact that PRC have a "high street store" - albeit only one in the whole country - means that JL consider them legitimate competition to match against. (JL says they won't usually price-match against website-only offers).

HTH.
