Hasn't been reviewed by a respected site. Never buy a TV on the strength of subjective 'customer reviews'... practically every TV gets good 'customer reviews', irrespective of how rubbish they prove to be when objectively tested by AVForums, HDTVTest, etc.

I kind of see your point but at the end of the day this is going to be watched by the "subjective customer" most of the time.

That review is excellent, I've been sceptical about this screen as it was 'entry level' but the review seems to allay those concerns. £380 for 40'' sounds good to me.

only 2 HDMI sockets hence voted cold. I would expect most TV within the last 2 years to have a minimum of 3 HDMI ports.

Yeah that's a concern for me.

Decent quality HDMI splitter is £4 off of eBay / Amazon.

Depth?

Thanks to a resolution twice as high as standard HD TV

Screen 1920 x 1080 Resolution

how does that work?
Looks good but will you get it?
Somehow I doubt it. Something very fishy going on at Amazon with Samsung TV deals right now.
Amazon cancelled TWO separate HUKD deals on the Samsung UE40EH5300 in the past 24 hours each time citing a price miss match.

link? I bought one based on a post on here, it's supposed to be auto switching but it doesn't work and lots of the reviews also complain about that not working. 2 ports is definitely a no no in this day and age!

I would imagine that standard HD is referring to 720, and this is 1080p which has over twice as many pixels.
Do Amazon still refund the difference if you bought something which they then subsequently reduced? I bought this 6 days ago for £404 and the extra £25 would help me out.

Amazon £4.69 works fine, no loss in quality and auto switching.
By the by, this is described as "new for 2012" the same as the two previously cancelled deals.

That's because it is a 2012 model...
I had my order cancelled for the UE40EH5300. This TV is not as appealing.

Only "50 Clear Motion Rate" for me it has to be 100 if I was spending nearly £400. If you think about it ts not that good a deal this one. 40" tv for £380, yes its LED, good brand, smart tv, freeview HD. But with no proper reviews or decent warranty its a bit cold.
can anyone who has this know if it comes with a round base or a rectangle one ? Two different pictures on amazon (one is user upload though)

Hot deal. But 2 HDMI kind of kills it for me, at this size at would expect 4 or more.
My 2009 LG 32" has 3, and it wasn't exactly top of the range + it's smaller

Also 50Hz is bit poor for a high end model like this

I reckon they would refund the difference mate, you should email customer services. How do you find the TV? I'm quite tempted, just wanted one with USB recording which this doesn't offer I don't think.

Nah, that's the one I have and it doesn't auto switch so these cannot be trusted to do the job properly - who wants to get off the sofa and manually press a switch lol, very surprised this TV only has 2 ports, perhaps it's a typo...?

The simulated 100hz on the Samsungs it rubbish, even if it was offered on this set you'd switch it off.

This doesn't actually have SMART features as far as I am aware. All it does is play media from a HDD (or over the network I assume). However, I have seen the TV in action, and HD football isn't too bad at all. Having said that, I don't think I've seen footy on a 100+ Hz LCD TV. I assume you still get blur even on a 240Hz set. I'm not sure 100Hz is all it's cracked up to be. If you want great motion handling - buy plasma!

It auto-switches for me on Virgin TiVo & LG bluray player & laptop.
2 HDMI ports is madness, 4 is my min and I fill them all. I've tried splitters before and found they can effect the TV volume.

Oval unfortunately. I believe the USA version has the rectangular stand (and as such you could buy one seperately if you desperately wanted one). The round one looks fine though.
they don't seem to mention Freeview HD?
is it just standard Freeview?

It's edge-lit.

It's not a high-end model, it's a low-end model. The high end models are the UE40ES7000 (£1299) and UE40ES8000 (£1499).

For the average buyer looking for a 40", this will serve them fine. If you're looking for picture quality, I'd steer clear due to clouding and motion blur. You're better off saving your money and going for a Panasonic plasma (eg ST50 or GT50) or higher end LED (eg Samsung ES6500, ES7000 or Sony EX853), or getting one of last year's high end models discounted.

Exactly, and the high-end models are edgelit, so there's almost a guarantee of screen uniformity issues. I don't understand how the ES7000 is £900 more, let alone the ES8000. Are they 3+ times as good as the EH5000?

Nah, they're pretty designer telly's, if you can afford £1500 for a TV then good luck to you, but you ain't paying for a 3x increase in picture quality...
