Samsung UE40H5500 LED HD 1080p Smart TV, 40" with Freeview HD

I know this has been posted before but was expired due to being out of stock. It now seems to be back in stock. More importantly I submitted a price match request for john lewis and this was accepted so means you can get the 5 year guarantee for the same price by ordering via John Lewis

It's a good TV but the 50hz panel is not all that you see the motion blur if watching sports or moto racing

seems to have decent reviews on Which scoring 67%. Seems to outscore the panasonic and sony equivalents.

"Despite being at the lower end of Samsung’s TV range, the H5500 aced many areas of our testing. It has great picture quality, decent sound and is good to use overall."

"Should I buy it?
Yes. It’s not up there with the best Samsung TVs we’ve tested, but it offers great value for money. Picture and sound are impressive, and overall it’s an easy TV to use."

We have the 32in version of this set, it is great. Has a gaming mode to reduce input lag too. Picture quality and sound are very good. Samsung smart content is amongst the most comprehensive out there. Also has USB record.

I saw the set alongside the equivalent LG model in Richer Sounds (the LG32LB561 I believe). The LG had motion control built in and an IPS panel, but dual core processor (not Quad core as on Samsung). This LG model is not WebOS it's the old-style. The LG sound quality was worse that the Samsung.

Yes the LG had better motion control - which you could see on say scrolling credits at end of a film. BUT the Samsung are a much better picture - sharper, darker blacks. The viewing angles were on a par despite he LG being IPS.. the VA panel in the Samsung is actually very good quality. LG don't have 4OD or ITVPlayer in their smart content.

I went for the Samsung because most of the time you can't see any motion issues - not on gaming and not on normal TV watching/streaming (imo). If you are a big sports fan then perhaps it makes a difference, but not for our usage.

I would highly recommend this TV - it offers a lot for the money. Which reviews are always very conservative - if any TV makes a Best Buy then it is an excellent TV overall.

HTH

I also have the 32" in my kitchen and its a lovely tv although awkward to walk hang due to odd shape of rear.

Thanks, have been waiting for the 32" to come back in stock at J.L for a week but for £50 extra will go for this.
Ive just submitted J.L price match, how long does it usually take to be accepted?

Yes I got the same even though I stated the delivery charge in the request

"I have looked into your request and will be happy to match the price of £299.99 "

John Lewis suddenly Out-of-Stock when I tried to add it to basket.

Manage to order this morning when there were more than 10 in stock according to their page. Maybe they will get more stock, I think the price match lasts for a while. For anyone else could always order from TJ Hughes

what are John Lewis like at topping stock up? it doesn't appear to be a clearance model. I emailed them at 7am about matching this and just went to order to find there's none, gutted!

Also gutted, spent a lot of time today checking out reviews for this tv, decided it was for me then all gone.

Out of stock by time my reply came through from them. I've been waiting over approx 2 weeks for JL to get the 32" back in stock so they don't seem too quick on replenishing when they are sold out.

it was actually out of stock last night when I got the price match but was in stock this morning so may be worth checking back tomorrow.

... and then TJ Hughes will be out of stock and JL won't price match (if they ever get any more stock) ... was going to order this last night from JL and wish I had, as now on HUKD no chance of getting it - one of those deals I wish you hadn't posted! Don't know how you managed to get a price match if JL were out of stock

doesnt matter if t j hughes go out of stock, ive already got a price match reference thats valid for 28 days, just need JL to get it back in. im just worried they wont and TJ Hughes goes out of stock, and then no TV at all

Now out of stock at TJ Hughes so somebody needs to expire

Well I don't think JL will price match if nobody else e.g. TJ Hughes has no stock, even if you have a reference. I think you have to buy it and then if somebody else has in stock at lower price they will price match for up to 28 days after purchase.

OK thanks, useful to know, let me know if you get the TV and the price match ... and maybe you could send me a PM if you see it in stock at JL and I will do the same ... I don't think JL are devious, but let's hope it doesn't come back in stock in 29 days ... LOL

I'm going to keep checking before then, but TJ Hughes have stopped stocking this t.v now, it looks like it was 1 of their 1 off deals, the page is completely gone off their site. so for anyone who didnt already get a price match, John Lewis are now the cheapest around at £369, for anyone they would match against. its well worth that, and i was originally going to pay full price anyway, it just went OOS while i waited on them replying to see if they would match it.

For all those who bought, just noticed we are also eligible from Free Deezer, MUBI and a Multiroom Hub. See details in this thread (thread covers the 32" but the 40" is also eligible):

I'm not very technical - how do you convert a JL email to a pdf to satisfy the Samsung condition of proof of purchase???? Explain like I'm a 5 year old please!!!!! As I had loads of bespoke Amazon vouchers, I bought a Samsung HW-H355 soundbar to go with it......the soundbar arrived yesterday, but I've delayed the TV delivery until I come back from holiday (flying to Germany for a week for a wee break)
